A long time ago, there was an emperor. He had a beautiful garden. In the garden, there was a little nightingale(夜莺) singing very beautifully.
One day the emperor heard about this little bird's beautiful voice. He asked his guards to bring her to him.
As soon as the emperor heard the nightingale's voice, he said, "Put her in a golden cage, so she can stay and sing for me whenever I want to hear her. "
The little bird was so unhappy about being kept in the cage that she stopped singing one day. The emperor was very angry. He ordered the scientists in his palace to make a robot bird for him. The bird could sing very beautifully, too. The emperor was pleased.
Soon the robot bird became old. It no longer sang beautiful songs. Just at that time, the emperor became very weak. One morning, while lying in bed, the emperor wanted it to sing once again. Every morning my father buys a copy of newspaper on his way to work. Every day I open my books in class and start my lessons. Every evening my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters with photos of David Beckham and Lady Gaga on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print(印刷)?
Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago, and has been made from silk, cotton, bamboo, and, since the 19th century, from wood. People learned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, books could only be produced one at a time by hand. As a result, they were expensive and rare(稀有). And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.
Then printing was invented in China. The first printed books were made by putting ink on a wooden block and holding the paper against it. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century, books
could be produced more quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly, in a way that can be compared with the invention of the Internet in the 20th century.
But will books be needed in the future? Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CD-ROMs or machines such as MP3 players. These machines are smaller and lighter than books so that they can be carried very easily.
Computers are already used in classrooms, and newspapers and magazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced(替换) by computers one day? No, I don't think the David Beckham poster on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a computer two meters high! You can see fewer and fewer people in the library. But I don't know if that will come true.
51. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. The first printed books were made by holding the paper before it.
B. Books have been produced more quickly and cheaply since the 19th century
C. Paper has been made from silk, cotton and wood since 2,000 years ago.
D. Before the 11th century, books were not easy to be produced.

A. blow about B. pick up C. give up D. care about

A. the writer thinks it’s necessary for the computers to replace the books.
