A. Choose the best answer (12分)
Every country in the world has a flag. A flag is a piece of cloth with a picture or pattern on it. The flag is a symbol that stands for the country. It is a custom in many places for people to fly or hang a flag. The flag tells something about the country and its culture. This may be about its land, its history, or the things that the people do there.
Many flags have patterns of stripes. The flag of Italy has a green stripe, a white stripe and a red stripe. Each stripe tells something about Italy. The white stripe is symbol of Italy’s snowy mountains. Some flags show pictures. The flag of Canada has a picture of a red maple leaf, which is a symbol of the maple trees in Canada. The Mexican flag has both a pattern of stripes and a picture. The picture shows an eagle eating a snake. This picture comes from a very old Mexican story.
A flag may also tell about a country’s past. The American flag is called the Stars and Stripes. It has pattern of fifty stars and thirteen stripes. The fifty stars are a symbol of the fifty states in the country, and the thirteen stripes are a symbol of the country’s first thirteen colonies (殖民地).
However, a flag may be a symbol of a group, a school, or an event like the Olympics. The flag of the Olympics shows five rings of different colors that connect. Each ring is a symbol for a part of the world that joins in the Olympics. The Red Cross is group that helps people who are in trouble. If a person sees the Red Cross flag, which has a red cross against a white background, he knows he can ask for help. People may fly a flag as a custom on a holiday. Children’s Day in Japan is a holiday when the country wishes for children’s happiness. It is a custom on this day to fly a flag with a picture of a fish.
Flags are also used as a way to talk. A flag with patterns can be very helpful to people who do not speak the same language. Sailors on ships use flags to talk to sailors on other ships. She managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net. The boys always tried to stop her but no one could. I began to notice her at other times, basketball in hand, playing alone.
One day I asked her why she practiced so much. Without a moment of hesitation she said, "I want to go to college. The only way I can go is to get a scholarship (奖学金). I am going to play college basketball. I want to be the best. My daddy tells me 76 the dream is big enough, the facts don't count. "Well, I had to give it to her-She was determined. One day in her senior year, I saw her sitting in the grass, head in her arms. I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside her. 78 I asked what was wrong. The coach told her that at 5'5" she would probably never get to play for a top ranked team-much less offered a scholarship -- so she should stop 79 college. She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment. I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet. She told me that her father said those coaches were wrong. A. Choose the best answer (12分)
26-year-old Luke Cameron decided to do at least one good deed (善事) a day, for 365 days after a good family friend died in October, 2013--and he made it!
He said: "Maura was like a mother to me. She was the most amazing and inspirational (鼓舞人心的) woman I've ever met. When a neighbour needed food, she gave her last potato. When a friend needed money, she gave her last pound. She gave her whole life helping others around her
and at her funeral (葬礼) over 4,000 people queued for 3 hours to get in and show their respects. "
Luke performed his first good deed on January 1st, 2014, with the simple act of greeting a waitress at a cafe he visited. The next day he bought food and drinks for some homeless people and followed it up by giving coins to a woman who did not have enough to feed a parking meter. Though most of his kind acts have been welcomed, Luke says there have been a few embarrassing situations. For example, when he bought a sausage roll for a homeless man, but the man happened to be a vegetarian who didn't eat meat or fish.
To try to encourage others to perform good deeds, Luke has created a deck of cards (一副牌). They're called "Cards for Kindness" and each card suggests a simple act of kindness -- things like giving a stranger a hug or making peace with an enemy. All the money he collects from giving out the cards is donated to a charity--the British Heart Foundation.
Luke's generosity didn't go unnoticed-- to reward (奖赏) the young man as he was near the end of his journey, Domino's Pizza awarded him a year's supply of free pizza. Not surprisingly, the big-hearted youngster used the gift to hold special pizza days for charity.
And that is not all -- since starting his challenge, Luke also entered a competition run by Utility Aid to win the job of National Philanthropy (慈善事业) Manager. That's also known as The Nicest Job in Britain. His Good Deed challenge made the organizers think that he was the right man for the job. So, for the whole of 2015, Luke will be paid to travel the UK and assist 45 different charities.
Luke has also decided to continue his challenge for another year and says the experiment has completely changed his life. He said: "I think I have healed myself by helping others. Sweaty palms, shaking hands and a racing heart! This is what many students experience when they take a big test. When anxiety (焦虑) kicks in, students can completely lose concentration, leading to poor scores. But is there any solution to such stress?
The key to reducing test anxiety is writing. According to a recent report in the journal Science, taking a few minutes before an exam to write about all those fears could help students perform better.
The study was conducted by Professor Sian L. Beilock, from the University of Chicago, and his graduate student Gerardo Ramirez.
First, the researchers asked 20 college students to take a maths test to get a base-lined score. Next, they told the students that they could get a monetary award if they got a good score, and that they were being videotaped.
Before beginning the main test, the researchers asked one group of students to spend 10 minutes writing down their anxieties about the test, while the other group sat quietly. Both groups then took the same exam.
The researchers found that students who sat quietly did 12% worse than they had on the pre-test, and the ones who wrote about their anxieties improved their scores by 5%.
Writing enables students to feel refreshed when facing challenging questions on the examination. However, experts also warn that such a change will not cause students to become any smarter. It can only make them become more relaxed and focused.

An old farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson. Each morning he was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his holy (神圣的) book. One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! I try to read the holy book just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the book do?"
The grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water."
The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water. I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and Grandpa went out of the
door to watch the boy if he would do. The boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather, the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless."
"So you think it is useless." The old man said, "Look at the basket." The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized the different. It had been changed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and outside.
So, that's what happens when you read the book. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and outside!

What is beauty? Ideas of beauty change over time, differ from country to country and differ from male to female. People have always tried to make themselves look beautiful and attractive.
Cosmetics (化妆品) have been used in every country in the world, even in ancient times. The
Egyptians used coal to make a thick, dark eye make-up. Their skin was softened with milk and honey and they put oil on their skin to protect it from the sun. By the 1100s, the use of cosmetics had spread to Europe where many women used flour to make their skin look pale. Cosmetics, of course, are still used widely across the world today by women and even by men.
In China, a sign of beauty and the mark of a wealthy woman used to be tiny feet. "Foot-binding (裹脚) " began between the ages of four and seven. In two years, the process came to an end. The perfectly bound foot was only three inches long and was very painful. Women who had their feet bound could hardly walk. Although foot-binding no longer exists, women still damage their feet for beauty. These days, many women choose to wear high-heeled shoes. However, many are not aware of the damage that can be done to their feet and knees.
People have always done different things to change the shape of their bodies. In the past, some women used to wear some corsets to make their waists look smaller. A corset was a form of underwear, often made of whale bone and even metal. Although the old-fashioned corset made the person look slim, it was very uncomfortable and years of wearing one often did damage to the person's organs such as their lungs, heart, liver and stomach.

People are attracted to a restaurant by more than just good food. Though important, good food is only a part of the whole dining experience. Equally important is the way people feel while in the restaurant. This physical and emotional response is a result of the atmosphere.
Atmosphere is made up of e 81 that makes an impression on people. The building design, the decorations, the colors of the walls, the service and the food create the atmosphere. The right atmosphere can relax g 82 and bring good feelings and repeat customers. The p 83 atmosphere can make the food, the service and the total dining experience seem satisfying.
People want a dining experience--an e 84 from problems and everyday surroundings. The atmosphere should show a feeling of friendliness and comfort, be attractive and interestingly different. The atmosphere is remembered long though the meal is f 85 . For the restaurant owner, this means repeat customers and, hopefully, a profitable operation.
Not everyone wants the same emotional response from a restaurant's atmosphere. After working all day long, most people would prefer to eat in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. However, for those who have worked alone in a quiet environment, a n 86 cafeteria might satisfy their needs. It is, therefore, very important to be thoroughly familiar with the type of people who you will s 87 in your workplace.
Designing the "right" atmosphere takes careful consideration. It should be designed to attract.

A Chinese cartoon company on Thursday launches (发起) a comic design competition in South Korea for collecting a cartoon character "Spring Wawa", which means "a doll of the Spring Festival" in Chinese, to represent culture of China's Lunar New Year.
South Korea is the first stop of the competition held by Shenjie Cartoon Comic Corporation. The competition opens to cartoonists all over the world to select a unique comic character for the Spring Festival.

Impressed by the rapid development of South Korea's cartoon industry in recent years, the manager decided to come to Seoul to look for new creative ideas from cartoonists here, and thus add "more modern elements and beauty" into the design of "Spring Wawa".
"A new story of China's Spring Festival will be told by the new 'Spring Wawa'. This competition will also create new opportunities for exchanges and cooperation between China and South Korea's culture and creative industry."
This competition will last for almost a year for collecting comic design works among artists from home and abroad. The winner of the Highest Golden Award will get around 48,900 U.S. dollars.

A. Choose the best answer(12分)
In Britain at the moment, there is much debate about food young people eat. Actually children in the UK are getting more and more overweight. It is difficult to decide who to blame (责备). Is it the parents’ fault or is it the child’s?
One of the main areas people are discussing is the healthiness, or rather unhealthiness of school lunches. The situation looks as if it is getting worse, so we all need to think about a solution to the problem.
I think the catering companies who often serve poor, cheap food should be blamed mainly. A recent survey of peoples’ eating habits in the UK showed that 40% of children had eaten chips that day at school and 85% had eaten sweets, cakes or biscuits.
In my opinion, we should look at what other children are eating for school lunches in other countries, and then learn a lesson from them.
Let’s take France as an example. This is a country where food is like the national region! Many schools employ their own nutritionist (营养师), who works with parents to make sure school lunches provide a healthy, balanced diet. A typical menu in a French secondary school is a starter of grapefruit, followed by grilled chicken with green vegetables and rice pudding for dessert. Pupils drink plain water rather than fizzy drinks. There is no choice and pizzas, burgers and chips are off the menu. Much more money is spent per meal than in Britain.
Norway is another interesting example. There, schools have no canteens at all. All Norwegian school children bring a packed lunch to school, which usually consists of sandwiches. Pupils can buy cheap milk, fruit or yoghurt at school. Lunch breaks are only 30 minutes long. While the children are eating, a teacher reads to them from a popular book. The children have to study ‘nutrition’ as part of the curriculum (课程). Norway is a country of healthy eaters and they start young.
Fortunately some people in the UK do care about what children are eating for lunch. In some schools, the food has got better. But we still have a long way to go. ‘An apple a day’ may well keep the doctor away, but what all kids need is a healthy, balanced diet.
69. At the moment, British children are ______.
A) eating healthy food B) becoming fatter and fatter
C) studying ‘nutrition’ D) discussing the school lunches
70. In the writer’s opinion, ______ should be mainly responsible for the situation in the UK.

My stutter (口吃) had always been much of a problem. I’d had so many specialists for my speech over the years. As I walked down the hallway to meet a new one, memories popped in my head of how painful being a kid who stutters had been. It 75 hurt.
“Hello! I’m Mrs. Claussen. I hear you’re from Texas!”
“Ye-Ye-Ye-Yes m-m-m-m-m-m-m-aam I am…” My heart felt like it was pounding through my chest and my hands were dripping wet. I really blew that introduction.
“Well,” she said with a kind smile. “I’ve always liked Texas.”
She turned out to be the best speech specialist I’ve ever had, not like those who told me to clap my hands while speaking. She was completely 76 . She spent the first several weeks just talking to me - asking me all kinds of questions about myself, especially my feelings. And she listened. She then began to teach me about the speech. Not just about my speech, but about everybody’s.
I sang in my old school and was a pretty good tenor (男高音), but I learned that the new school’s singing group was all filled up. It was such bad news, for I thought that was the one thing I could really do well - and I could do it 77 stuttering. Somehow Mrs. Claussen finally got me in the group. I felt like she really cared about me as a person, not just a speech student.
During the next two years, my speech didn’t get much better - except with her. When I was in college, things got worse. I once even wondered if I would ever be able to 78 ! It was a very depressing time, and I often felt lonely. When I was feeling really sorry for myself, I remembered Mrs. Claussen had told me whether I could 79 my speech was all up to me. She had told me not to fight for perfect speech, just better speech. She was right about that. I finally improved my speech greatly.
Many years have passed, but I think of her 80 , wondering if she had as much influence on her other students as she had on me. I like to think that she did. Her name was Mrs. Claussen... and she cared. I’II never forget her.

Dear Friend,
I want to tell you about Yuri. Yuri is a young brown bear. He was born in winter and like all bear cubs, he was blind and he had no teeth. His mother was sleeping in her den(兽穴), deep inside the Russian forest. Outside, it was very cold and everything was covered by thick snow. Inside the den with his mother, however, Yuri felt safe and warm.
Then, when Yuri was only a few weeks old, some hunters came. Dogs were sent into the den. Yuri’s mother was woken up by the dogs. She tried to protect her cub, but when she climbed out of the den, she was shot by the hunters.
Every year, between 3,000 and 4,000 brown bears are hunted and killed like this. There are only 110,000 brown bears in Russia today and they almost disappear in other European countries. Their meat and fur are sold for thousands of dollars, so people will continue to hunt them. The cubs are usually just left to die. Without their mothers they can’t survive.
Yuri, however, was lucky. He was found by one of the hunters and he was taken to The Russian Bear Orphanage, 350 kilometers northwest of Moscow. The orphanage is run by Professor Valentin Pazhetnov. Here, Yuri will be looked after. He and other orphan bears will be fed and taught how to survive. When they are old enough, they will be taken to a nature reserve in Bryansk, where they will be protected. Professor Pazhetnov hopes that in the future some bears will be released in other European countries where they are now extinct.
So far, over a hundred bear cubs have been saved by the orphanage. Seventy bears have been returned to the forest. We want to save more. That’s why I’m writing to you now. Money is needed for food, transport and for people to look after the baby bears. Yuri and his friends need your help. Please send a donation today. Together we can save the orphan bears.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Fred

Some years later, a letter came for them from a small town in the west. It was from John Whittier, and brought sad news: Jennie was dead.
Miss Polly thought about the past twenty-five years. She was forty years old. Her father, mother and sisters were all dead. The big family house, and all her father’s money, were now in her name. Because deaf people cannot hear, they have special ways of communicating. One way is lip (嘴唇) reading. With training, people can learn to understand what someone is saying by looking at the m 81 of the speaker. Speaking is possible but difficult for the deaf. Because they cannot hear their own voices, it takes a lot of training to be able to make the c 82 sounds, and not all deaf people can get this skill. The way of communicating is sign language, which is the most useful in real life.
In many ways, sign language is s 83 to spoken languages though actually there is some difference. The "words" of sign language are its signs. The signs are formed with movements of the hands, face and body. Each sign has a different meaning. Signs are mixed up to form sentences. The basic sign language is hand signs that take the place of letters. The signs, which are put together, can e 84 the same thoughts, feelings and so on as a spoken language. And just as different countries usually speak different languages, most countries have their own variation of sign language.
In addition to knowing sign language, it is also helpful to know s 85 about how deaf people communicate. Hand waving or hitting a table or the floor to get someone's attention is fine. Also, lots of eye c 86 is necessary. Information can be read from their eyes.
Lastly, it is good to remember that most deaf people s 87 think of themselves different from other people, and you don't have to, either!

Dear Anne,
Thanks for your email. It's great to have a pen pal from another country. My name is Jeff, and my family has a farm in Australia. We grow wheat and crops on our farm. Let me tell you what happened here last week.
Until last week, our plants had been growing well because we've had a lot of rain. Then the locusts came. They flew towards our farm in a swarm(一大群), which contained millions of
locusts and covered an area of several square kilometers. The locusts came from an area far away. They had flown through the night.
Early the next morning, I went outside with Dad. We looked at the swarm in the sky. I had never seen so many animals together at a time. Dad said there was nothing we could do for the crops. I wasn't afraid, because locusts don't hurt people.
The swarm landed in our fields, and the locusts ate most of our wheat. We lost a lot of our harvest. Then the locusts flew to other farms in our area and ate some of those crops, too.
I didn't go to school that day, because the swarm of locusts made it hard for drivers to see on the roads and the school bus didn't run. Instead, I helped Mum and Dad on the farm.
The locust plague(灾祸) is over now, and the locusts have all gone. Mum and Dad said we must get the damaged fields ready for the new plants. We are going to be very busy on the farm. Email me again soon.
Your new friend,
Jeff

Who makes movies? Actors and directors, of course. But if you watch the list of all the people who worked on the movie, you'll find hundreds of other names. Some of the most important people in filmmaking aren't famous. Here are 75_ important jobs behind the scenes(幕后).
Makeup artist: Making characters look believable
The makeup artist's work sounds 76 . But it's more than just making the lead actress look beautiful. If the hero gets a cut on his face, the makeup artist creates that cut, and it has to
look exactly the same tomorrow. And the special makeup for a monster or a space alien can take six hours! Their work must always be careful and good, so you don't 77 it when you watch the movie.
Scrip supervisor: Putting movie scenes together .
Imagine shooting a scene inside a living room. The clock says 9:05, and the actor is eating a sandwich. Later, the director decides to change just the end of the scene. The script supervisor must 78 everything. The clock must still say 9:05, and the sandwich must not look different. In order not to make mistakes, the script supervisor keeps records of every scene and all its details.
Special effects coordinator: Making impossible things look real
After a movie, people often ask, " 79 did they do that?" In films, people can fly, dinosaurs walk through cities, and spaceships go to other planets. These are all the work of the special effects coordinator. Some special effects, especially in science fiction movies, are made with computers. Others are produced by machines, which can make a rainy day or a snowy night at any time of the year.
Foley artist: Creating the sounds of the cinema
Think of your favorite scary movie and its sounds-footsteps, loud rain, and creaking doors. Many sounds can't be recorded during the filming of a movie, so Foley artists produce them in their studios(工作室). They create the sounds of a fight scene, and the wind, rain, and thunder in the background. In a Foley artist's studio, there are even special 80 for recording different kinds of footsteps.

Many students feel that living in a private home in Britain will be a help to them in learning English, and will also be a good experience in itself. Younger students may feel h 81 in a home than in a hotel, for they can have someone caring for them like their parents. Many British people like to be the "host" to tourists around the world, especially to f 82 students. This is not just because being a host will bring in some extra money, but because they really enjoy letting someone from a different country live in their house and s 83 part of their daily life.

It began with one red paper clip(回形针) and ended with a house. Kyle MacDonald, a 26-year-old Canadian, got a three-bedroomed house through 14 trades.
Seeing Kyle's successful experience, now more and more young people around the world are starting their own trading activities. They set up websites where people can trade things they do not usually use with other people. A website called Peerfix allows people to trade their used DVDs. These traders usually prefer face-to-face trading, which means they don't have to worry about who is going to pay for the delivery.
Last year, a young girl in Beijing decided to follow the example of Kyle. She started with a paper clip and hoped to get a house in the end. After several trades she now has a piano which is worth more than 10,000 yuan. But she may still have a long way to go.
You may wonder why people are so interested in those trading activities. If you ask Kyle, he will say, "To a man dying of thirst in the desert, a glass of water is surely more useful than one million dollars, isn't it?" Kyle's words probably show why these trades are popular among young people.

People use different sets of words and expressions _ 49 they have different ages, jobs, education levels and so on.

A. Choose the best answer (12分)
When I was growing up in America, I was ashamed of my mother’s Chinese English. Because of her Chinese English, she was often treated unfairly. People in department stores, at banks, and at restaurants did not take her seriously, did not give her good service, pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her.
My mother realized that she was poor at English. When I was fifteen, she used to have me call people on phone to pretend I was she. I was made to ask for information or even to shout at people who had been rude to her. One time I had to call her stockbroker(股票经纪人). I said in an adolescent voice that was not very certain, “This is Mrs. Tan.” My mother was standing beside me saying, “Why he doesn’t send me check, already two weeks late.” And then, in perfect English I said: “I’m getting rather worried. You agreed to send the check two weeks ago, but it hasn’t arrived.” My mother then talked more loudly. “What he want? I come to New York to tell him in front of his boss.” And so I turned to the stockbroker again, “I can’t accept any more excuse. If I don’t receive the check immediately, I am going to have to speak to your manager when I am in New York next week.”
The next week we ended up in New York. While I was sitting there red-faced, my mother, the real Mrs. Tan, was shouting to his boss in her broken English.
When I was a teenager, my mother’s broken English embarrassed me. But now, I see it differently. To me, my mother’s English is perfectly clear, perfectly natural. It is my mother tongue. Her language, as I hear it, is vivid, direct, and full of observation and wisdom. It was the language that helped me see things, express ideas, and make sense of the world.

Clothes then and now
Today, clothes are made in many different colours. They are also made from many different 75 like wools, cotton, linen and silk. Most people own lots of clothes. Each day, they choose what to wear.
Clothes
Clothes cover our bodies and protect us from the weather. They can also make us feel good about the way we look. Sometimes, our clothes tell other people 76 about us, such as the work we do or what religion(宗教) we are. People have been wearing clothes for many thousands of years, but the clothes people wore long ago were different from the clothes people wear today.
Fashion
Fashion means the kinds of clothes that are popular at one time. Ancient Romans wore dresses. Some Romans wore togas(宽外袍) to special events. Long ago, women in some countries wore corsets under their dresses. Corsets were pulled in tight and tied at the back, so they weren’t 77 to wear. Women wore corsets to make their waists look smaller. Fashion 78 . It can be different from place to place. However, most people today wear simple clothes that are easy to put on and care for. Clothes need to be 79 for the climate a person lives in, too.
Uniforms
People have worn uniforms for thousands of years. Uniforms show the work people do, or what school they go to, or what team or group they belong to. Most uniforms today are suitable. Some uniforms 80 help to protect people from danger.
Clothes in the past and the future

Smart Work
Maybe you have seen this in schools: Some students study nearly all the time but they just pass
their exams, while some others may spend much l 81 time on their books but do much better in exams. How could this happen? People used to think that hard work is the only way to success. But now they understand that smart work can make them successful, too.
Hard workers don’t m 82 working for long hours, while smart workers always think of several different answers to these questions. “Why should I suffer this?” “Isn’t there a better way to do this?” Thanks to these people, we can use computers instead of the abacus now. P 83 in every field is the direct result of “try to find a better way” by smart workers. There was a large soap factory in Japan. Once it received an unusual letter from someone who c 84 that there was no soap in the soapbox he bought.
How could empty soapbox go out of the factory? The engineers checked the producing and packing. The producing was fine, but in about one in ten thousand cases, the packing machines let an empty soapbox go. There was no need to spend a lot of money repairing the machine for such a small problem. The engineer soon worked out a s 85 . He put a large X-ray (X射线) machine and two large computers to find out the empty soapbox. A 86 teaching the workers how to use it, he sat down in his seat, exhausted.
“Sir, we could have solved the problems in a much simpler and cheaper way.” a worker said.
“Really? How?” “We can put a huge fan near the packing machine. The wind coming from the fan will blow away the empty boxes and leave the other o 87 with soap. There would be no need for an X-ray machine, two computers, and operating by workers.”
See, this is smart work. In order to succeed, we should not only learn from the engineers’ hard work, but also think smart like the workers.
D. Answer the questions (12分)
Smog is a big problem in many Chinese cities. But it seems that besides wearing a mask (口罩), few of us know what has caused the smog and what to do to beat it. Chai Jing, former news anchor with Chinese Central Television, discussed the questions in her documentary Under the Dome (穹顶之下).
The 103-minute film was released on major Chinese video-sharing websites on Feb 28. In the film, Chai visits polluted places and talks to officials and scientists. She concludes that burning too much coal and oil are the main causes of PM2.5 and smog.
To make things worse, according to Chai, the coal and oil we are burning is of poor quality and doesn’t meet the standards for environmental protection. Therefore Chai says more harmful gas and particles (颗粒) have been produced to pollute the air. To solve the problem, Chai suggests that we should clean our coal and oil or replace them with cleaner energy such as natural gas.
In her film, Chai also suggested that we should do something to help control smog too. For example, she says we can live a greener life by using more public transportation. Or if we see things that harm the environment, we will try to stop it. In one scene from the film, Chai saw a dirt mound in a building site exposed in the air, she asked the person in charge to cover it. When she saw a restaurant cooking without any suitable filter facilities (过滤设备), she called the hotline 12369. The restaurant installed the filter a week later.
Chen Jining, the new minister of environmental protection, praised Chai. “This film encourages ordinary people to care for the environment. This is what we need in the future.”

As we know, museums are buildings with many precious and important objects from different places. They are kept so that people can go and see them. For example, art museums are places where people can learn about v 81 cultures. More and more popular "design museums" are opening today, h 82 , play quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museum shows objects that are easily found in our daily life, such as fridges and washing machines. The a 83 of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Being different from the art museum visitors, design museum visitors s 84____ feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-products work and look as they do, and how design has i 85 our lives. People can
see the better changes of the products. Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something they don't understand.
Several new design museums have opened their doors in recent years. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public's growing interest in the field with new i 86 . London's Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less s 87 than those to art museum. Visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around such exhibits as interesting and unusually attractive toys collected from our everyday life.
D. Answer the questions (12分)
If your home is like most others, you've probably got a recycling bin in your kitchen. Good for you. That's the first step to recycling. But there are other things that both parents and kids can do to make recycling work better.
First, what kinds of rubbish bins are in the other rooms of your house? What about in your bedroom? You've probably just got one rubbish bin where everything goes. Bui it's a good idea to place a special bin for recycling paper. Then when it goes full, you can empty it into a larger recycling bin in the kitchen. You can also put a small recycling bin in the bathroom for any useless paper there.
Before you throw an item into the recycling bin, stop and think if you can use that item again. Take plastic items with yoghurt, for example. After eating what's in them, you can clean them and store them in a cupboard, and later you can use them for storing another food item. You can do the same with the glass jars, too. You can also share your recycling advice with your neighbours.
If you decide to put an item in the recycling bin, it's very important to follow this method. If it has food or drink m it, you must clean it before you put it in the recycling bin. It can't be recycled with food still in it. You should place the item under the running water for a few seconds to clean it. This saves time for the workers in the recycling center. Then they can use their time doing more important work.
The last thing to remember is - don't give up! Recycling is a whole life task and you mustn't just do recycling for a month and then return to your old habits. You can also continue to find other ways to recycle. So make recycling your new habit, and get others involved as well!
