短文理解(四) 杂志封面+猪之艺术+“ texting”是非论 A ‎ With time, everything changes. So do magazine covers. The following are three of the most popular magazines in the US. Let's take a look at how these covers have changed over the past centuries.‎ ‎•Time Time is best known for its red border(镶边). The cover photos and designs are almost the same for ages—a photo of a famous person with bold(粗体) text to draw your attention. The cover continues to feature(以……为特色) America's icons year after year—from presidents to pop stars.‎ ‎•National Geographic Being around for more than a century, the design of National Geographic, especially the cover, has gone through many changes. The magazine is perhaps best known for its amazing photography—yet it wasn't shaped until the 1960s. It has also done a great job designing its famous yellow border.‎ ‎•Seventeen The Seventeen logo(标识) has stayed the same, but almost everything else about design has changed. There was a time when the cover was simple. And then things just got more and more cluttered(杂乱). The magazine cover's job is to sell the magazine—it has to stand out from others. So the design starts to get louder and louder. But until recently, few have heard of “Pigcasso”. Pigcasso is the name given to an artistic pig that was saved from a slaughterhouse(屠宰场).‎ ‎ The pig now lives and creates art at an animal sanctuary(庇护所)in South Africa. Joanne runs the sanctuary. When it comes to pigs, people have somehow reached an agreement—that pigs are ugly, lazy, stupid and shameless. However, Joanne holds quite a different opinion. She says pigs are very smart animals and they like to keep their minds active. “When I brought Pigcasso here, she was the only pig and always felt lonely. I was always thinking how I could keep her delighted?” she said. Joanne gave Pigcasso some balls, paintbrushes and something else to play with. “She usually ate or broke everything except these paintbrushes. She loved them so much,” she said.‎ ‎ Soon the pig was using those paintbrushes to create art. Her paintings can sell for almost $ 4, 000. The money from her sales goes to animal protection organization. Pigcasso has even had one of her works turned into a watch face by Swatch, a Swiss watchmaking company! The limited artwork “Flying Pig” has green, blue and pink colors and sells for$120. “FLYING PIG has made us scream with joy!” writes an ad on the website page of a company. ‎ ‎ Joanne says Pigcasso is “no doubt an abstract expressionist(抽象派表现主义者)”. “You can't exactly tell what she's painting,” She added.“but I can tell you that her painting style changes depending on her mood like any great artist.” Besides, Pigcasso even signs her own name on the paintings. How can she do that? Just put her nose into the ink and press the funny nose on her artworks!‎ ‎1.Why is the pig named “Pigcasso”? ( )‎ A.Because the pig used to be a pet of the artist Picasso.‎ B.Because the pig is talented in painting pictures.‎ C.Because the pig wants to be as famous as Picasso.‎ ‎2.What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 3?( )‎ A.People can't accept the high price of Flying Pig.‎ B.Flying Pig is such an excellent artwork.‎ C.Flying Pig makes people feel uneasy.‎ 5‎ ‎3.Which of the following word can best describe Pigcasso? Many kids I know can be in the same room or even sitting next to each other, but they text each other rather than actually talk! With some of my friends,it's hard to get their attention when they are texting. People seem to like to text more than talk.‎ ‎—Riley Responsible Texting ‎ No,I don't think too many kids are obsessed with texting. Sometimes kids might just need some time alone on the phone. They probably just need to talk to their friends!I believe most kids are responsible and know when to stop texting.‎ ‎—Ella Guilty(羞愧的) of texting too much ‎ Kids are really obsessed with texting. When I text my friends, almost all of them answer back in less than a minute. Some of my friends even get their phones taken away for being on them too much. I see my friends most of my day at soccer or at school, and even I am guilty of texting them several hours a day when I am home. Sometimes it's better to spend time outdoors and with your family rather than with your phone.‎ ‎—Tom Get physical—Get off the phone!‎ 5‎ ‎ A lot of my friends,as soon as they got a smart phone, were texting or online constantly. Spending that much time on a screen is not healthy for you or your brain. Personally,I'd rather spend time outside doing sports with my friends than on the phone. You can tell your friends things at school or whenever you see next—you don't have to spend all your time texting.‎ ‎—Shanna ‎1.Who doesn't think many kids are obsessed with texting?( )‎ A.Riley.
