During his stay in China, he saw many wonderful things. One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money. In western countries, people did not use paper money until the 15th century. However, people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century. A Chinese ‎ man called Cai Lun invented paper almost 2,000 years ago. He made it from wood. He took the wood from trees and make it into paper. He then put these pieces of paper together and made them into a book. Now paper still comes from trees. We use a lot of paper every day. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth. If there are no trees, there will be no paper. It is reported that people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper only in Shanghai every day. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that they are cutting nearly 48,000 trees every day. Since it takes more than ten years for a tree to grow, we must start using less paper now. If we don’t, we will not have enough time to grow more trees to take the place of those we use for paper.‎ ‎(Text 9) ‎ W: Wait, Ben,did you say you had a party Saturday?‎ M: Yeah, you didn’t know about it? It was my birthday.‎ W: No, I didn’t.‎ M: But I’ve invited you. I sent you an email last week.‎ W: Are you sure? I didn’t get it. Oh, you know what? I didn’t tell you I have a new email address. Oh,I am sorry.‎ M: That’s OK. But I was a kind of upset that you wasn’t there.‎ W: Really? I was upset too. And the bike trip is just awful. We got lost for four hours.‎ M: Oh, that’s terrible.‎ W: Listen. Let’s go out for lunch this week. I want to do something for your birthday.‎ M: Oh, you don’t have to.‎ W: I Know. But I want to.‎ M: OK, that’s really nice of you, really. So anyway,I have to go now. I have a meeting at 9:30.‎ W: OK, see you later and happy birthday.‎ ‎(Text 10)‎ Once upon a time the animals of the forest came together to see who was the most beautiful. All the animals were very happy and excited. However, the snake was very sad because she knew she was ugly. The rooster was very kind to her. He lent the snake his crown. She put it on her head and felt very happy. The snake glided along proudly, like a queen. She wanted to show off her ‎ beautiful crown. The animals said she was the most beautiful, the snake did not see the large pool of water in front of her. She fell into the pool and dropped the crown. She searched for the crown ‎ but could not find it. She was afraid and did not want to tell the rooster. The next morning, the rooster got up very early and waited for the snake. She did not appear. The rooster called for her time and again. Still the snake did not come. To this day, the rooster still gets up early each morning and crows. He is saying, “Where are you?”‎ ‎1-5 CBACA  6-10 BCABC  11-15 ABBCC  16-20 ABBCA
