Knowing a little first-aid could be life-saving if you see someone lying unconscious.
Too often people don't do anything because they think they will kill the patient, but by learning simple rules you could make the difference between life and death.
First, you need to find out if they're unconscious, asleep or drunk, by squeezing the skin between their neck and shoulder and shouting. If there is no response at all, you need to establish if they are dead or just unconscious - sometimes it's very difficult to tell the difference.
Open the airway by placing one hand on their forehead and gently tilting the head back while lifting the chin.
If there are no signs of life - no obvious pulse and their chest is not going up and down - call an ambulance and then start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to maintain a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart.
Do this by pushing up and down on the centre of the chest, with your hands interlocked together, constantly until an ambulance arrives.
Push at a rate of 100 beats a minute. You can't harm them doing this and might just save a life.
25. people often don`t do first aid because______.
A . they are not doctors B. they think it is dangerous C. it isn`t their responsibility D. they are cold-hearted
26.If the person`s chest is not going up and down it shows______.
A. the person is dead. B.first aid is not needed. C. you should start CPR D. an ambulance isn`t necessary.
27.Which of the following pictures is true about CPR according to the passage?

Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age.But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one.In those days,a brush was made from camel's hair. There were no camels nearby.Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush.
The brush did not last long.Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱).His father said that the cat must be sick.Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing.

In the city,Mr.Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape painting.William Williams,a wellknown painter, came to see him work.Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull.Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said,“Those two books were my companions by day,and under my pillow at night.” While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nineyearold boy decided then that he would be an artist.

There were many famous poets from different periods of time in Chinese history, and thousands of their poems are still read and appreciated today.
To arouse people's interest in those classic Chinese poems and promote cultural heritage, CCTV produced a TV show —Chinese Poetry Conference. The finale of the hit show's second season was shown on Feb.7 .2017.
Wu Yishu, 16, who studied at the High School Affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai, came out on top. In an earlier episode(一集), Wu wowed the audience when performing in a section entitled“ Feihualing”. The game's theme was“yue”, meaning“moon” or“month” in Chinese. She recited the lines from the Classic of Poetry, the earliest collection of poems in China:
“In July, the crickets (蟋蟀) are in the field. In August, they are in the yard. In September they are at the door. In October, they enter and crawl under our beds.”
“I really admire her knowledge of poems,” said Huang Zijin, 16, a Senior 2 student from Ningbo High School in Zhejiang Province. “The first time I saw her wearing traditional Han clothing on TV, I was very impressed by her classical looks. She fulfills all my fantasies about classic Chinese women's talents. What's more, she always appears so calm throughout the show, which is very unusual for her age.”
As the old saying goes, “One who is filled with knowledge always behaves with elegance.”
“Learning poems isn't about winning or losing. The power of poetry lies in shaping one's view of life and developing one's inner world,” said Li Bo, an expert guest at the Chinese Poetry Conference's second season.
When it comes to teaching people about poetry, Li Dingguang, the show's academic advisor, suggested that teachers should explain more about the beauty of the poetry from both the aesthetic(美学的) and emotional sides, and guide the students to lose themselves in the poems' rhythmic(有节奏的) and rhyming lines.
“Although the amount of ancient Chinese poetry in the textbooks of primary and secondary schools has increased, many students still learn them for exams,”Li Dingguang told China.org.cn.“Therefore, it's important to help students truly appreciate the artistry and fun of poetry.”

How to become a better reader
Language and literacy(读写能力) are among humans’ greatest inventions. Evolving(演变) over the course of human history, languages are a reflection of our cultural and societal attitudes. Today, surrounded by social media, television, movies, and, of course, books, the ability to read and write is important to expressing one`s feelings. Most humans acquire language in early childhood and speak fluently when they are about three years old, but our continued relationship with language gives shape and meaning to our lives. 36
Take it slow. Many readers feel that they read too slowly, especially compared with others. 37 The best readers are flexible— slowing down when needed — and always have a dictionary at hand.
Read aloud. When humans first began reading written words, it was unusual to read in silence. 38 Try listening to the author reading their own work — you`ll be surprised to find how clearly it comes through on the page.
Write. Writing and reading go hand-in-hand: how and what you read affects how and what you write, and the best readers often make the best writers. But while much can be learned from close, repeated readings, there are many pleasures to language that can only be experienced through the practice of writing. 39
Tell your friends. All of the literature is essentially communication from an individual’s inner voice to an audience. 40 It’s a good way to see the world from someone else`s eyes and, in the process, carefully examine your own reaction to what you’re reading.
A. But the truth is that the faster you read, the less likely you are to understand fully what you`re reading.
B. Can you remember the first piece of writing that transported you to another world?
C. There is something magical about sharing books with friends or a book club.
D. Try writing every day for a month, and you will never read the same again.
E. Reading out loud is one of the best ways to improve your reading ability.
F. Here are 4 ways to become a better reader.
G. In no time, you`ll be appreciating novels like fine wine.

First of all , don`t put too much pressure on yourself in that it is hard for you to focus your attention on the questions in the exams. So what you should do is relax
yourself properly. Besides, you should bear in mind that it`s important to distribute your time reasonably. Only in that way can you make full use of it and set aside a few minutes to check your papers, avoiding some unnecessary mistakes.
Cheer up! Believe in yourself and you’ll be successful.
