But it can't take my smile."Mom said.‎ Mom learned to share her fears with me, and it formed an even deeper bond between us. Yet I am certain there were fears she didn't share because she was still ‎ protecting me-worries she only shared with Dad. Even in the darkest hours, she would just joke about the cancer. Mom always said, "When you look your greatest fear in the eye and laugh at it, you take away some of its power.”‎ Mom was one of the lucky ones. She did beat her cancer, though not without scars. But only people who do this regularly will get real benefits. By regularly, I mean once or twice a month. We don't encourage back-to-back sessions, as increased levels of oxygen in the body can make a person dizzy."‎ Dr.Rajesh Chawla , a senior doctor at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital , said ,“Even if you breathe in the so-called pure oxygen for two hours in a day, you will go back to breathing the polluted air for the rest of the 22 hours. The concept is purely money-driven."‎ Recalling the first few months of the bar, Irengbam admitted that people were skeptical . "Many people criticized , saying we were selling air. Others were simply scared to breathe through the tube."‎ Irengbam said the bar saw a significant rise in the number of customers two to three days after Diwali , an Indian festival mainly celebrated by fireworks and lights , as the pollution levels were high.‎ ‎25.What do we know about the oxygen intake?‎ A. What is Dr. Rajetha Chawla's attitude towards the bar? ‎ A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Unconcerned. D. Ambiguous.‎ C A lecture hall should be like a church-a little too dark, much too cold, and uncomfortably silent. You should feel guilty opening your water bottle, because all 200 people in the room can ‎ hear it.‎ ‎ So when I'm trying to pay attention, the last thing you should be doing is carrying on a conversation about your last weekend party or anything else.‎ During the past school term,I've had enough. One of my biggest complaints of large class sizes is the tendency for three to five friends to sit together and loudly whisper each others' ears off for an hour and 15 minutes straight. My stupid monkey brain can't help but focus on your conversation about the difference between ash blonde and light blonde colored hair that look ‎ exactly the same.‎ To me,it just feels like a waste. You're actively wasting money, and missing vital information. We(and the government)pay quite a lot for our education, but you are here to ignore someone significantly more experienced than us,in classes we picked, for hours every week.‎ I know major requirements can be boring, but this is still an education. It requires two-way effort. Most of students here have at least one goal in common:success. Not every checkpoint on that path is going to be filled with joy.Sit down, shut up,and force yourself to listen to your professor.Society tells us it will eventually pay off. ‎ Or maybe it won't because you don't want to.‎ I actually don't care if you decide to pay little or no attention to the lecture itself,so long as you're not being disturbing.‎ For those willing to try,in 20 years when you finally pay off your debt with your fairly secure white-collar job, you'll look back and be happy that you went through the lectures.‎ ‎28. Why is a lecture hall compared to a church by the author? ‎ A.Both places are open to the public. B. Both places are supposed to be quiet.‎ C.Both places can seat over 200 people. D.Both places help rid people of their guilt.‎ ‎29. What can we infer about the author from the passage? ‎ A.He likes persuading others. B.He tends to make complaints. ‎ C.He values education as a duty. D.He cares much about friendship.‎ ‎30.What may be the best title for the text? ‎ A.Hard Work Pays Off! B.Focus on the Lectures! C.Wasting Your Time Is a Shame!‎ D.Mind Your In-Class Behavior!‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Giving a gift that will stand the test of time is always a challenge, but giving plants is one ‎ way to try. Whatever type of plant you choose, it's sure to last longer than cut flowers.31_‎ The most important thing to consider is where it will live. If your friend's place is bright and sunny, a succulent (多肉植物) makes sense. 32 Succulents naturally grow in desert-like environments, while orchids(兰花)grow in damp forests.‎ ‎33 It can help you understand what conditions it prefers. So, while picking out plant gifts, ask the salesperson for more information to ensure what you choose is a match for where it will end up.‎ Whatever plant you choose, make peace with the fact that it may or may not survive. After all, a house's inside is pretty dissimilar to where that plant naturally grows. So we can all only do our best.34 If their leaves dry up, they're not getting enough water. If they're reaching their leaves toward the light, they may need more of it. So offer that advice to your friend, and then let it go.‎ If you have a plant-interested friend on your gift list, why not choose a plant which is easy to keep alive in his place and looks lovely? You don't need to wrap it, as a simple bow is enough.35 It's a way to ensure your gift gets a good start in life.‎ A. You can always put them inside a paper bag. ‎ B. But you can consider giving a nice pot and bag of soil. ‎ C. Knowing the natural history of a plant is equally important.‎ D. Even relatively experienced green thumbs sometimes lose ‎ E. The key is to pay attention to plants-really look at them each day..‎ F. If you want to choose plants as gifts, the ideas below will help you on your way.‎ G .If your friend has a cool home with no direct sun, an orchid is probably a better choice.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白 处的最佳选项。‎ Hearing my name called, I stepped up on stage to give my first public speech. Many kinds of animals lived in the forest. A deer was eating grass and leaves with her two young ones. The young ones wandered happily here and there. The deer followed her fawns (幼鹿)into a cave. The deer was frightened because it was a tiger's cave. There were bones of dead animals all over the cave. Fortunately, the tiger was not inside the cave at the time.‎ The deer was trying to lead her young ones out of the cave when she heard a loud roar. She saw the tiger at a distance coming towards the cave. It was dangerous to go out of the cave now. She thought of a plan. The deer raised her voice and shouted, "My deer young children do not weep. I shall capture (捕捉)a tiger for you to eat. You can have a good dinner."‎ The tiger heard these words and became frightened. He thought, "Whose is that strange voice from the cave? A dangerous animal is staying inside to capture me. I shall run away to escape death." The tiger began to run away from there as fast as possible.‎ A jackal (胡狼)saw the running tiger. “Why are you running in great fear?" the jackal asked. The tiger said, "My friend, a powerful and fierce animal is in my cave. The young ones are crying for a tiger to eat. The mother is promising to capture a tiger for them. So, I am running away."‎ The cunning jackal was now sure the tiger was a coward (懦夫).It said, "Don't be afraid. No animal is fiercer or stronger than a tiger Let us go together to find out.”‎ But the tiger said, "I do not want to take a chance. You may run away. I will be left alone to die. So, I will not come with you."‎ The jackal said, "Trust me. Let us knot (打结)our tails together. Then I will not be able to leave you." The tiger agreed unwillingly to this proposal. So the jackal tied their tails in a knot. Now they walked towards the cave together.‎ Para. 1‎ The deer saw the jackal and the tiger coming together.‎ ‎_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Para. 2‎ The tiger was shocked to hear this and he was sure now the jackal cheated him.‎ 英语试题参考答案 第一部分 听力 ‎1. His family moved from Mexico. His parents always had two jobs. On the weekends, the whole family went to the fields to work. He and his brothers had to stay in the car when they were very young. As they got bigger, they worked too. He worked for three schools in Lodi, California. He cleaned the schools to earn the money to pay for the first two years of college. Being a cleaner at a school made him think about how to show respect for everyone in an ‎ organization. Then he moved up the ranks, starting as campus safety officer, then becoming a teacher, an assistant headmaster and now the leader of a school district. Now, even though he has had a successful career, he never forgets where he came from, or those who encouraged him in his early days. He uses his life experience to guide him as a leader.‎
