Earthquake rescue robots have experienced their final tests in Beijing. Their designers say that with these robots, rescue workers will be able to have more time to save more lives during an earthquake.
This robot looking like a helicopter(直升机), is called the detector-bot . It's about 4 meters long, and it took about 4 years to develop the model. Its main functions(作用)are to collect information from the air, and send goods of up to 30kilos, to people stuck in an earthquake.
This robot has a high quality 360 degree panoramic camera. It can work day and night and will also be able to send the latest pictures from the quake area. Dr. Qi Juntong, Chinese Academy of Science, said, "Unlike other automatic machines, the most important feature of this robot is that it doesn't need a distant control. We just set the information of the earthquake-struck area on it, and
then it takes off, and lands by itself. It flies as high as 3,000 meters, and as fast as 100 kilometers per hour. "
This robot has a different function --- it can change as the environment changes. Its main job is to search for any signs of life in places where human rescuers are unable to go.
As well as a detector(探测器)that finds victims(遇难者)and detects poisonous gas, a camera is placed in the 40 centimeter long robot, which can work in the dark.
Another use for the rescuers is the supply bot, with its 10-meter-long pipe. People who are caught in the ruins will be able to get supplies including oxygen and liquids.
Experts have said that the robots will enter production, and serve as part of the national earth- quake rescue team as soon as next year.
24. Which of the following statements about the robot is true according to the passage?.
A. It hasn't been put into production so far.
B. It is a machine with a length of 10 meters.
C. It is a machine carried by a helicopter.
D. It weighs about 30 kilos.
25. Dr. Qi Juntong thinks this robot is different from the others mainly because _____.
A. it has more functions
B. it has a more advanced camera
C. it can change as the environment changes
D. it can work by himself once given the information
26. The underlined word "which" in paragraph 6 refers to_____.
A. a camera B. a detector C. a rescuer D. a doctor
27. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The appearance of the robot. B. An introduction to the robot.
C. The reason for making the robot. D. Some information about earthquakes.

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should know that your choice of sport might have great influence on the environment.
Some sports are resource-hungry(消耗资源). Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses(球场)in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.
There are many environmentally-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your wallet. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environmentally-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms(健身房;体育馆)”. They are better replacements(代替物)for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or some other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.
28. What do we know about golf from the passage?
A. It pollutes the environment with all sorts of chemicals.
B. It needs water and other energy to keep its courses green.
C. It is very popular in Portugal and Spain.
D. It causes water shortages around the world.
29. Which of the following is NOT the advantage of power walking according to the passage?
A. It is environmentally-friendly. B. It improves our health.
C. It is simple and free. D. It can make you put on weight.
30. Which sport is the writer most likely to advise us to do?
A. Playing basketball in a gym. B. Motor racing in the desert.
C. Cycling around a lake. D. Swimming in a sports center.
31. What is the main purpose of writing the passage?
A. To show us some major outdoors sports.
B. To encourage us to go in for green sports.
C. To discuss the influence of some popular sports
D. To introduce some environmentally-friendly sports.

“Are you going to Seattle?” an anxious-looking woman asked a female traveler at the Amtrak Airport in Sacramento. “No, I’m going to Eugene,” the traveler replied. “Oh, I was hoping you could watch out for my daughter, she’s never been on a plane before.”
Now, as I am quite a seasoned plane traveler, I know that seats and cars are supplied by destination(目的地). So I came up to the woman and her frightened-looking daughter, telling them that her daughter could sit with me and that I would take care of her during the journey.
The plane had arrived 25 minutes late, and people walked in line to get their seats . The conductor wanted to know if there were people traveling together, so I went to the front of the line with the girl and we were arranged to sit next to each other. Once on board, I showed her where to put her package, and took her to the bathroom area. Then we settled down to sleep. In the morning, I showed her the dining room and bought her a drink. She became comfortable enough to do what most 15-year-olds do: talk and text on her mobile phone.
All through the trip, I made sure she picked up her ID, which had fallen out of her backpack, some money, which had fallen into the crack (缝隙) of the reclining seat, and continuously kept an eye on her. I hope someone takes her under their wing when she flies back to Sacramento.
I do hope that kindness will spread around the world through these ways. We’re conditioned to think that our lives go on with great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware, beautifully wrapped(包裹)in what others may consider a small one.
32. Where was the author going by train?
A. Sacramento. B. Seattle. C. Eugene. D. Amtrak.
33. Why did the author go to the front of the line?
A. To make sure of his seat .
B. To help the girl find her seat.
C. To ask for the two seats next to each other.
D. To get a more comfortable seat in the front.
34. What can be learned from the text?
A. The girl has never left her mother before.
B. The girl has never been to Seattle before.
C. The girl has never travelled alone by air before.
D. The girl was too nervous to do anything during the trip.
35. What is the writer’s opinion according to the last paragraph?
A. Experience is the best teacher.
B. You never know till you have tried.
C. Happiness lies in giving help to others.
D. Do something good even though it may be tiny.

the weather and be very careful about where you go so as to avoid accidents.
If you prepare yourself carefully, you will surely enjoy yourself.
附:听力材料:
(Text 1)
M:That's a nice sweater. Did you buy it in London?
W:No, I bought this hat. I saw a nice dress, but it was too expensive.
(Text 2)
M:Look at Sara. She was so excited just a moment ago, but now look at that long face.
W:She just heard she failed to pass the exam.
(Text 3)
W:We need to get ready for lunch. There are already some napkins on the tables but we need
forks too. I'Il do that now. Do we need glasses?
M:No, we can give them to people if they ask for juice.
(Text 4)
M: It's great that your brother has passed his driving test. Did he give you a lift to school today?
W: No, our car broke down. And I had a lot of things to carry so I didn’t want to use my bike. Then I caught the bus.
(Text 5)
W: I hear that you’re going abroad for further education. Will you go to Hungary as planned?
M: I planned to. But I’ve changed my mind. I was advised to go to Italy or France, but I haven’t decided yet.
W: In my opinion, Italy might be a better choice for a student of art.
M: That’s a good idea. I’ll go there.
(Text6)
M: Excuse me. Do you know where the post office is? I was told that it was somewhere here, but I can’t seem to find it.
W: The post office you’re looking for used to be right here in the middle of the supermarket and the bank, but it moved a couple of weeks ago. If you want to go there, walk two blocks down this road. Turn right. You’ll see the post office on the northwest corner, next to a library.
M: Thanks a lot. And I heard the closing time is at 4 pm?
W: They’re open until 4: 30. Don't worry. You have twenty minutes before it closes.
(Text 7)
W: We should do our shopping today, Cameron. Your birthday’s tomorrow and we need to get some food for the party.
M: What should we get?
W: Let's cook chicken. And we can get some salad and potatoes too.
M: Oh, we are not celebrating Thanksgiving Day. And it seems like a lot of work for us.
W: We can do it all in the morning.
M: But Lily, why don t we order some pizza and chips?
W: Oh, we are not preparing for a picnic.
M: But it would be easier for us.
W: OK
(Text 8)
M: Is there anything else I can help you with?
W: Yes. Do you know any good restaurants in the area?
M: Well, there are some pictures in this guidebook. The first one here is lovely---The Belleview. It has a famous cook, so it s not so cheap, but the food is tasty. It' s right by the sea and there are wonderful views. Then there is The Lighthouse.
A lot of actors often eat there.
W: Mm, I m not sure about those two. They sound too expensive to me.
M: What about The Harvey’s? The same family has run this restaurant. It’s reasonably priced. It's popular with local people because of its local specialty foods. And there is another family-run restaurant---The Stone’s. It is right in the
centre of the area. So it's always crowded with customers. This guidebook has the phone numbers for all the restaurants so you can just call them if you’d like to book a table.
W: Great! I would like to try the local food.
(Text 9)
M: Today I’m talking to 21-year-old,Ann Brown, who’s just returned from a running race. So, Ann, how did you feel about your performance in the race?
W: I was happy to get the silver medal. It was an exciting race and the crowd was fantastic.
M: So what’s your training like, Ann?
W: Running on the roads is pretty dull, and there is no lake or river around my place, so I usually go running through the woods, getting pleasure from the nature.
M: Do you train every day or do you take a day off?
W: The accepted idea is that sports people should have at least one rested day a week. I’m not a great believer in that though. At my age I find I can keep going without one. I do five hours a day.
M: So do you have any free time activities?
W: Yes. Skating is something that I get into quite a bit when I've got the time. I've always enjoyed active things, and never really been much of a reader of books. And I seldom go
traveling like most people
(Text 10)
Now, we’ve also put together a map which we've sent out to all the people in the area. And on the map we’ve marked the changes planned for the future.
Firstly, we’ll plant some trees to provide shade in Days Road. In order to solve the traffic problems, the sidewalks on corner of Carberry and Thomas Street will be widened. This will help separate the local streets from the main road. So the road used by cars at the entry to Thomas Street from Days Road will be painted red. This should mark it more clearly and act as a signal for traffic to slow down. One way of making sure that the car-free streets are safe is to increase signs at the crossings. A" keep clear" sign will be put up at the crossing of Evelyn Street and Hill Street. Something we’re planning to do to control the flow of traffic in the area is to set up traffic lights half way down Hill Street where it crosses Days Road. Now, we haven’t only thought about the cars and traffic, of course, there’s also something for the children. Well...
