Parents and educators can teach kids to change their fixed mindsets and see more potential in themselves and other people. Do you agree with this statement? If your answer is yes, here’s something you might consider. Research suggests that believing in the human ability to change is linked to less depression, better health and greater achievement. This is the “growth mindset”, an idea pioneered by Stanford researcher Carol Dweck.
According to this research, when we practice a growth mindset, the difficulties we’re facing seem more likely to be surmounted. It’s important for us to realize we aren’t helpless; we can grow and adapt. Just as important as seeing ourselves as capable of growth, this reduces some of the pressure we might feel, and helps us think more in terms of challenges than threats.
According to studies, developing a growth mindset is of importance. For example, a simple belief in the possibility of change may have a powerful effect on our thinking—potentially freeing us to actually see our way through anxiety and a sense of failure among peer conflicts and peer exclusion(排除,驱逐). Research also indicates that believing personalities can change can lower aggression and better navigate social relationships. Additionally, if we believe personalities are changeable and that situation can change, we can also apply this thinking to groups, resulting in an increased cooperation.
A growth mindset isn’t a personal state of being; instead, it’s a way of thinking or a strategy we can apply in a given situation. It isn’t something you simply have or you don’t. However, sometimes it’s really challenging to access a growth mindset. Something like feeling threatened, compared or criticized can make us feel unsafe so that it can be difficult to believe in the ability for change. Fortunately, there’s always something you can do to develop a growth mindset.
24. According to Carol Dweck, a growth mindset is the belief that our abilities .
A. are stable B. aren't fixed C. are for growth D. are linked to health
25. What does the underlined word “surmounted” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.overcome B. strengthened C. predicted D. approved
26. According to studies, people with growth mindsets are more likely to .
A. behave more bravely B. be strict with themselves
C. do something on their own D. get along better with others
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. A growth mindset is difficult to develop.
B. People with growth mindsets will not be criticized.
C. The sense of insecurity can be a barrier to a growth mindset.
D. Growth mindsets are challenging if people don't have good states.

As new technology is introduced, there are many who worry about its influence on our
current and future lifestyles — particularly when it comes to jobs. It is a current belief that with the rise of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), many people’s jobs, and therefore their livelihoods, are likely to be lost.
Automation in the workplace is nothing new. Machines have been performing dull tasks on our behalf for years, allowing us to escape many repetitive jobs. In fact, the International Federation of Robotics states that in manufacturing on average there are now 74 robots per 10,000 employees. That has risen from 66 in 2015.
A recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute states that nearly two thirds of all jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030. However, McKinsey also believes that this new technology will also ‘create new occupations that do not exist today, much as technologies in the past have done.’ As the horse gave way to the car, hostlers (马夫) became mechanics and mechanised manufacturing drove up wages and created more long-term roles than it destroyed.
‘It’s an evolution of work,’ says Ian Barkin, a robotic process automation specialist. As low-skilled jobs are taken on by AI, people will need to learn new skills. ‘This calls on us to focus on improving ourselves. Technology can lead to job reductions but it doesn’t have to,’ says Barkin.
Whether or not robots and AI will leave us all jobless remains to be seen. Current views on the subject are mixed. Increased automation could indeed lead to a loss of some jobs, but at the same time is likely to create many more as new skills are required. Will they balance out? I’ll get my AI assistant to get back to you on that one.
28. How do many people feel about the influence of AI?
A. Quite confused. B. Quite surprised. C. A sense of fear. D. A sense of pride.
29. What might be McKinsey’s attitude to the rise of automation?
A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Optimistic. D. Ambiguous.
30. What is most important in dealing with AI according to Ian Barkin?
A. The ability to keep learning.
B. The ability to think positively.
C. The ability to take risks in an uncertain future.
D. The ability to adapt oneself to the new environment.
31. Which can best express the author’s view on automation?
A. Every coin has two sides.
B. Where there is life, there is hope.
C. It’s better to do well than to say well.
D. A bad workman quarrels with his tools.

Somali pirates robbed three Thai fishing ships with 77 sailors on board nearly 1,200 miles off the Somali coast, the farthest-off-shore attack to date, an officer said Tuesday.
Pirates have gone farther south and east in answer to increased patrols (巡逻) by warships off
the Somali shore. The robbing of the three ships Sunday was about 600 miles outside the normal operation area for the international force, said a spokesman.
The spokesman said the attack so far out at sea was a clear sign that the international patrols against pirates were having a “marked effect on pirate activity in the area”.
“Once they start attacking that far out, you‘re not even really talking about the Somali basin or areas of water that have any connection with Somalia.” said an officer, Roger Middleton. “Once you’re that far out, it‘s just the Indian Ocean, and it means you’re looking at trade going from the Gulf to Asia, from Asia to South Africa.”
“This is the farthest robbing to date. They are now operating near the Maldives and India.” said another officer.
The three ships --- the MV Prantalay11, 12, and 14, had 77 members on board in total. All of them are Thai, the spokesman said. Before the Sunday robbing, pirates held 11 ships and 228 sailors.
Pirates have increased attacks over the past year in hopes of catching more dollar payments. Because of increased patrols and defenses on board ships, the success rate has gone down, though the number of successful attacks has stayed the same year over year.
32. The pirate attack reported in the text happened .
A. far out in the Indian Ocean B. in the normal patrol area
C. near the Somali coast D. in the south of Africa
33. According to the text, which can best describe the situation of the pirate problems?
A. More goods on board are lost.
B. Pirate attacks happen in a larger area now.
C. The number of attacks has stayed the same these years.
D. Pirate attacks are as serious as before along the Somali coast.
34 .which is TRUE about the warship patrols according to the text?
A. The patrols are of little effect.
B. The patrols are more difficult.
C. More patrols are quite necessary even in Asia.
D. The patrols only drive the pirates to other areas.
35. How many sailors were held by the pirates up to the time of the report?
A. 228. B. 77. C. 383 D. 305.

One morning, I went to school by a bicycle as usual. As I am listening to my favorite music with a headphone on my head, I didn’t notice a car parked on the roadside. I scratched the car and left a scar on it. Think that I would have classes, I left a note with his name and address to let the driver know what had happened. Lately in the afternoon, while we were having a class meeting, our headmaster led in a stranger, that was the car owner. He explained the class the whole story but praised me. My teacher and classmate were impressed and pride of my honesty.

In the meanwhile the holiday schedule runs from 8:00 am till 4:30 pm on work day, with more and longer breaks for rest than usual. As far as I am concerned, I’ve got used to online learning, which I think is not just a creative form of
schooling, but also our own way to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. In addition,we’ve come to realize how important computers and mobile phones have become to us! But I really miss the days with my friends and teachers on campus.
In conclusion ,I hold the hope that the end of the epidemic is approaching right away,
