Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2020届河南省郑州市高三质检)
Four teenage girls from Minnesota, US. 120 hours of nonstop togetherness. No cellphones. This is not a reality show, but an adventure journey.
“It was really perfect,” said Julia Ruelle of her recent adventure to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness with three of her childhood friends. “By unplugging, we had an amazing time.”
Last year, the 16yearold took part in an essay contest and carried off a prize. The award was a 5day canoe and camping adventure with up to three friends. No parents or guides would be there. So Julia invited her friends Anna Wander, Madeline Wilson and Julianna Torelli.
The four Minnetonka High School juniors arrived in Ely for training the day before they began the journey. They set out the next day at 7 a. m., quickly developing a routine.
“We were done paddling by noon,” Julia said. “We ate lunch at the campsites and then it was time for hammocks (吊床), reading, making friendship bracelets (手镯) and talking.”
The girls had all some experience in the outdoors before.
Anna had been to the Boundary Waters with her family. “I love how you are separated from everything in your life, especially technology,” Anna said. Without her phone, she said, “I'm less worried about things.” Madeline, too, had been to the Boundary Waters a few years back. “But this time, I had to paddle right and set up camp,” she said. The girls made fire and cooked meal together. No one was ever hungry or homesick, but they were nervous the final night as they waited out a thunderstorm. They left wet sleeping bags in one tent, and squeezed into another for the night. “Every thunderstorm in the Boundary Waters feels huge,” Julia said.
On the car ride home, they were all on their phones catching up with friends. “It was a little at a loss turning my phone on,” said Anna. “Mental health can be improved so much in the Boundary Waters. It really helps to get away and reconnect with yourself.”

Most people who own iPhones use them as their alarm clocks—making it very easy to check emails one last time before falling asleep and hard to ever feel away from work and social networks.
Several years ago, my boss fainted due to exhaustion after staying up late to catch up on work. She banged her head and ended up with five stitches (缝针)—and became what she calls a “sleep evangelist (传教士)”. Now she leaves her phone

charging in another room when she goes to bed and encourages her friends to do the same.
“I sent all my friends the same Christmas gift—a lovely alarm clock—so they could stop using the excuse that they needed their very attractive iPhones by their beds to wake them up in the morning,” she said.
If your phone wakes you up in the morning, it may also be keeping you up at night. A 2008 study showed that people exposed to mobile radiation took longer to fall asleep and spent less time in deep sleep. “The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear are severely affected,” the study concluded.
A quarter of young people feel like they must be available by phone around the clock, according to a Swedish study that linked heavy cellphone use to sleeping problems, stress and depression. Unreturned messages carry more guilt when the technology to deal with them lies at our fingertips. Some teens even return text messages at midnight.
Most of us choose not to set limits on our nighttime availability. Nearly three quarters of people from the age of 18 to 44 sleep with their phones within reach, according to a 2012 Time poll. That number falls off slightly in middle age, but only people aged 65 and older are leaving the phone in another room as common as sleeping right next to it.

(2020届湖北省武汉市高三调研)
When I first came to UK from China at 6, I entered the first grade. 1 I saw children throw their left over food into the large trash cans—from halfeaten pizzas to untouched burgers. I watched them pour their milk into a white bucket. In China, this was a huge nono in school. We had to finish everything.
One day, my first grade teacher announced that we would be having a party and everyone was told to bring something from their country. 2 My mom stayed up after her long day of work and made many dumplings. She put them in the fridge and woke up early in the morning to steam them and fry them so they would taste extra fresh when I brought them to school. They smelled great and looked golden brown after they

were cooked.
I was so excited to share these with my class and teachers. It was placed in the corner of the table next to all the other delicious food. 3 One or two kids bravely took a piece and knew what they were because they had it with their parents at a Chinese restaurant. At the end of the party, it was cleanup. My teacher walked up to me and asked, pointing to the dumplings, “Would you like to take these home?” I carefully replied, “No...” 4 I thought she was going to share it with other teachers, but immediately after I said that, she threw all the dumplings into the trash and continued cleaning. I was confused; what just happened?
5 And today I still witness this frequently in my English friends. Please eat all your food or take it to go or share it or just get enough so you don't have to throw it away. Thank you.
A.In China, “no” usually means “yes”.
B.I got super excited and told my parents.
C.It was very impolite to take your gift home.
D.This was the biggest culture shock I have experienced.
E.When I got home, I shared the experience with my parents.
F.Many kids had the cookies and juices and were hesitant to try the dumplings.
G.I didn't understand why kids were getting their lunch food and not finishing it.
