Europe’s clocks will move forward once again this weekend. Yet last week the European Union voted to end this long-established practice from 2021.‎ In the 18th century, Benjamin Franklin came up with the idea of moving the clocks forward in the summer. But the practice really took hold during World War I and since then it has brought several benefits. It might increase consumer spending, as shoppers are encouraged to stay out later into the evening. It might even reduce crime. As the saying goes, “the longer the daylight, the less I do wrong.”‎ In spite of all that, clock-changing is unpopular. When the European Union ran a poll (民意调查) among its citizens, it got nearly 5 million responses. Over 80% want to scrap clock-changing. Although it has not been proven eventually, many scientists think that changing the clocks messes with humans’ biological clock, which may increase the chances of heart attacks and strokes. It could cause car accidents to increase, as drivers who are used to going to work in the daylight, for example, suddenly have to do so in the dark. In addition, many businesses find it extremely inconvenient that countries change their clocks at different times. ‎ So, will Europeans choose to stick with winter or summer time? This has not been decided. It could be that each country will choose for itself, though each is likely to take careful note of neighbors’ decisions. The benefit, it seems, is felt not so much in deciding how long the evening is, or how dark the morning. It is in keeping it consistent throughout the year. ‎ ‎27. What can be learned from Paragraph 2?‎ A. People might spend more after clock-changing.‎ B. Clock-changing has more benefits than expected.‎ C. People adopted clock-changing after World War I.‎ D. What can we infer about clock-changing?‎ A. People will continue to use it.‎ B. More changes will be added to it.‎ C. It remains to be seen whether to use it.‎ D. European countries will further discuss it.‎ ‎30. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?‎ A. To recall the history of clock-changing.‎ B. To stress the benefits of clock-changing.‎ C. To show people’s opinions on clock-changing.‎ D. To introduce the bad effects of clock-changing.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Improve your reading Before reading a book for details, it is important to study the book’s cover, title page, preface(序言), index(索引)and table of contents. ‎ ‎___31 Who is the author? Just as I entered the living room, I heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs——it was the sound of my favorite violin.‎ ‎ “Thief!”‎ ‎ I dashed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected, a boy of about 12 years old was petting ‎ my violin. The boy had messy hair and a thin face, his oversized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.‎ ‎ Then, I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by a smile. I asked, “Are you Mr. Ram’s nephew, Michael? I’m his housekeeper. Two days ago, I heard his nephew living in the countryside will come. It must be you. You’re really like him!”‎ ‎ On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out? I think I’d better first go out for a walk and visit him again in a while.”‎ ‎ I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin, “Do you like to play the violin so much?”‎ ‎ “Yes, but I’m so poor that I can’t afford it.” the boy replied.‎ ‎ “Then, I give this violin to you.” The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin. Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall a huge color photo of me playing the violin in the Sydney Opera House. He involuntarily trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.‎ ‎ I was sure that the boy had understood what happened because no one would decorate(装饰) the living room with the housekeeper’s photo.‎ 注意:‎ ‎1. ‎ Paragraph 1 ‎ ‎ A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students.‎ ‎_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2 ‎ After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box. ________________________‎ ‎_________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎_________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎_________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎_______________________________________________________________________________‎ 英语答案 听力 1-5 BCACA 6-10 CBAAC 11-15 BABCC 16-20 BABBA ‎ 阅读 21-23 AAD 24-26 CBA 27-30 ACCC 七选五 31-35 GFADB 完型 36-40 ADBAC 41-45 BDABD 46-50 ACBCC 51-55 CDABD 单句语法填空:‎ ‎56. offered 57. it 58. that 59. have been applied 60. to protect 语篇填空:‎ ‎61. freezing 62. endangered 63. are shot 64. leaving 65. where ‎66. Fascinated by the gentle sound of one participant, I was wholeheartedly impressed by his wonderful performance and solid strength. As I flicked my eyes up to glance at the performer, I was so astonished to see a thin face, so familiar, yet now lit up with joy and confidence. The “thief”! For an instant, I was amazed that the kindness I offered to cover the boy’s misconduct would made such a big difference!‎ After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box. He asked with a tremble in his voice, with his thin face reddening with excitement, “Sir, ‎ do you recognize me? The nephew! It’s your kindness that enlightens my life, so does your violin. Today, I can give back this violin to you without regret...” Tears welled up in my eyes. Never had I expected that a tiny white lie would inject such great power into others and change their life.‎ 听力原文:‎ Text 1‎ M: You’re all grown up! How old are you now? I went camping with my family.‎ W: That sounds fun!‎ M: It wasn’t. Camping is so boring. I didn’t have any service on my phone, so I couldn’t check Facebook or Twitter the whole weekend!‎ W: That doesn’t sound like a big deal. Didn’t you enjoy hiking or swimming with your family?‎ M: Not really. I enjoyed taking pictures of us fishing, but I couldn’t even post them until we got back on Monday. ‎ W: Hmm... It sounds to me like you need to learn how to enjoy life without sharing every moment on social media. ‎ Text 7‎ W: You look sad, Jason. What’s wrong?‎ M: I got a ticket just now.‎ W: Why? ‎ M: I was driving slowly near the shopping mall when a policeman suddenly appeared from behind and asked me to pull over. I had to stop my car. How are you with both of those things?‎ M: I’m experienced in sending emails, and I’m also fairly confident on the phone. I’ll give you a call back in the next few days to let you know our decision.‎ M: Thank you so much.‎ Text 10 ‎ People who live in cities usually take their dirty clothes to a laundry place called a “laundromat”. These public businesses are usually open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A smaller laundromat might have a dozen washers and a dozen dryers, while a larger one might have twice that number. Most places do not have any employees there, as there are simple instructions posted near the machines and everything can be done without assistance. Most people bring their own washing soap, but there is often a machine that sells small packages in case you run out or forget yours. During the weekend, it can be hard to find an open machine but it is much easier during the week. Many laundry places have TVs, video games, magazines, or free Wi-Fi. Recently, many laundry places have added cafés or bars. Because people usually spend a few hours doing their laundry, having a drink or a meal is a convenient and fun way to pass the time. Of course, when so many people are washing their clothes close to each other, it is easy to make mistakes. My sister actually met her husband at a laundromat after he put her clothes in his basket by accident! ‎
