2、It is generally believed that people act the way they do because of their personalities and attitudes. They recycle their garbage because they care about the environment. They pay $5 for a caramel brulee latte because they like expensive coffee drinks.山东中学联盟
It’s undeniable that behavior comes from our inner character, but in many instances we also draw inferences about who we are,as suggested by the social psychologist Daryl Bern.By observing our own behavior,we can be strangers to ourselves. If we knew our own minds, why would we need to guess what our preferences are from our behavior? If our minds were an open book,we would know exactly how much we care about the environment or like lattes.Actually,we often need to look to our behavior to figure out who we are.
Moreover,we don’t just use our behavior to learn about our particular types of character—we infer characters that weren’t there before. Our behavior is often shaped by little pressures around us,which we fail to recognize.Maybe we recycle because our wives and neighbors would disapprove if we didn’t.Maybe we buy lattes in order to impress the people around us.We should not mistakenly believe that we always behave as a result of some inner character.
Whatever pressures there can be or inferences one can make, people become what they do,though it may not be in compliance with their true desires. Therefore,we should all bear in mind Kurt Vonnegut’s advice:“We are what we pretend to be,so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
1.According to the text,personalities and attitudes . A.result from one’s habits
B.affect one’s surroundings C.reflect one’s taste D.determine one’s behavior
2.Which of the following would Daryl Bern most probably agree with? A.The return of a wallet can indicate one’s honesty.
B.A kind person will offer his seat to senior citizens. C.One recycles plastics to reduce the carbon footprints. D.One buys latte due to his deep affection for coffee.
3.Which of the following best explains“compliance”underlined in Paragraph 4? A.Harmony. B.Challenge. C.Strength. D.Memory.
4.What does the author mainly discuss in the text? A.Preferences and habits.
B.Behavior and personalities. C.Attitudes and preferences. D.Personalities and attitudes.
3、Solar power is helping bring about a future of cleaner energy, but there are limits to where
rigid solar panels (刚性太阳能电池板)can go. A new kind of solar cell made with a mineral
called perovskite (妈钛矿)can go almost anywhere, says physicist Olga Malinkiewicz. We can use perovskite cells on the surfaces of the building, on the roofs of the buildings, on the roofs of the cars and on the electronic devices. We can use it on the sails. We can use it in the balls, tents and unlimited applications. Malinkiewicz says perovskite has become a favorite among solar panel researchers. Because it can be printed, everyone can use it on every surface.
Malinkiewicz developed a way to print perovskite panels like an inkjet printer. She
co-founded a company to produce them, called Soleil Technologies, after the Baltic sun goddess.
Construction company Skanska is testing the panels at their Warsaw headquarters. Adam Targowski is sustainable (可持续的)development manager for Skanska. They work perfectly, even when they are not well exposed to sunlight. So we can use them in all surfaces of the
building. Soleil calculates that about one square meter of panel can supply a day’s worth of power for one worker’s computer and lights. And they keep getting better as research continues, says the company’s scientific director Konrad Wojciechowski.
For other technologies, it took decades to really enter markets. Perovskite has been around only for few years in scientific research, so there is still a lot to be done, but potential is basically pretty much unlimited, I think. There are still durability and other problems to work out, but several companies expect to have perovskite panels on the market this year.
1.What do we know about perovskite solar cell from the first paragraph? A.It’s delicate. B.It’s complex.
C.It’s flexible. D.It’s expensive.
2.What does the underlined word “they” in the second paragraph refer to? A.Skanska and Adam Targowski.
B.Malinkiewicz and Skanska. C.Soleil Technologies. D.Perovskite panels.
3.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.It needs years to put perovskite panels into markets. B.Scientists think perovskite panels are ready for markets. C.Perovskite has been studied for decades.
D.Perovskite panels will soon be seen in the market.
4.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To explain how to use perovskite panels. B.To introduce perovskite panels.
C.To advertise a new solar power cell.
D.To propose scientists to further study perovskiet cells.
4、The expression“a thirst for knowledge" may soon have a new meaning for millions of people who have no way to get clean water. Researchers have developed a book with specially
treated pages that can turn dirty water into clean and drinkable water. They say their invention could improve the lives of many in the developing world.
About 700 million people around the world are at risk of disease or even death because their drinking water is not clean. The water is polluted by harmful bacteria.
The book contains 25 pages. Each page is about one millimeter thick. The pages contain very small particles (微粒) of silver. The pages can be used as filters(过滤器)to remove harmful microorganisms(微生物) that can pollute drinking water. The filter kills the organisms that pass
through it.
Pictures on the pages show the dangers of dirty water and how to use the book for those unable to read. The pages are made of filter paper. They are designed to be torn from the book. Water can be poured through the paper to be cleaned.
Ms. Dankovich, the inventor, says each page can treat up to 100 liters of water. She recently presented her invention at the meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston, Massachusetts. She was asked whether she had considered adding classic literature on the book's pages.
"The idea of classic texts—that's of interest maybe later. We have discussed a little bit more exciting text. But we really haven't had the time to go through that part,"she says.
Teri Dankovich and another researcher tested the drinkable book in Bangladesh, Ghana and
South Africa. The tests proved to be successful.
Water for Life, a non-governmental organization, has provided financial support for the project.
1.What do we learn about the book from the text? A.It sells well around the world.
B.It has pages with several functions. C.It is about environment protection. D.It can treat about 100 liters of water.
2.What does the underlined phrase "that part" in Paragraph 6 refer to? A.Classic texts. B.Invention presentation. C.Exciting discussion. D.Financial support.
3.In which country did not the researchers test the drinkable book?
A.Bangladesh. B.Ghana C.South Africa. D.America.
4.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Researchers have found a way to save those being ill. B.Millions of people are in great need of drinkable water. C.Book pages could provide safe drinking water. D.Knowledge is as important as drinkable water.

答案:Dear Jim,
I’m glad to know that you’ll take part in the “Studying in China” speech contest. I’d like to give you some suggestions.
I recommend that you talk about the courses on Chinese traditional culture you’ve attended. The major reason is that they introduce the real treasure in human history. Besides, since you’ve taken the courses systematically, you’re sure to have a deep understanding of them.
To do it well, I think you should choose impressive examples to gain the recognition of the judges. Moreover, you have to practice your spoken Chinese to express yourself more clearly and fluently. Speaking skills are also needed, for they can help maximize the effectiveness of your speech.
I really hope my advice will be helpful. Wish you a great success.
Yours, Li Hua
