However, being forced to recycle often means we already have more material than we need. We are dealing with the results of that over-consumption in the greenest way possible, but it would be far better if we did not need to bring so much material home in the first place.‎ The total amount of packaging increased by 12% between 1999 and 2005. It now makes up a third of a typical household’s waste in the UK. In many supermarkets nowadays food items are packaged twice with plastic and cardboard.‎ Too much packaging is doing serious damage to the environment. The UK, for example, is running out of it for carrying this unnecessary waste. If such packaging is burnt, it gives off greenhouse gases which go on to cause the greenhouse effect. Recycling helps, but the process itself uses energy. The solution is not to produce such items in the first place. Food waste is a serious problem, too. Too many ‎ supermarkets encourage customers to buy more than they need. However, a few of them are coming round to the idea that this cannot continue, encouraging customers to reuse their plastic bags, for example.‎ But this is not just about supermarkets. It is about all of us. We have learned to associate packaging with quality. We have learned to think that something unpackaged is of poor quality. This is especially true of food. But it also applies to a wide range of consumer products, which often have far more packaging than necessary.‎ There are signs of hope. As more of us recycle, we are beginning to realize just how much unnecessary material we are collecting. We need to face the wastefulness of our consumer culture, but we have a mountain to climb.‎ ‎24.What does the underlined phrase “over-consumption” refer to?‎ A. Having more material than is needed. B. Recycling too many wastes.‎ C. Making more products than necessary. D. Using too much packaging.‎ ‎25.The author uses figures in Paragraph 2 to show _______.‎ A. the tendency of cutting household waste B. the increase of packaging recycling C. the fact of packaging overuse D. the rapid growth of supermarkets ‎ ‎26.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?‎ A. Unpackaged products are of bad quality.‎ B. Supermarkets care more about packaging.‎ C. Other products are better packaged than food.‎ D. It is improper to judge quality by packaging.‎ ‎27.What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ A. Fighting wastefulness is difficult.‎ B. Needless material is mostly recycled.‎ C. The author is proud of their consumer culture.              ‎ D. People like collecting recyclable waste            ‎ C A good teacher is many things to many people. In my own experience, the people I respect the most and think about the most are the teachers who demanded (要求) the most discipline (纪律) from their students.‎ I miss one teacher in particular that I had in high school. I think she was a good teacher because she was a very strict person. I remember very vividly (清晰地) a sign over her classroom door. It was a simple sign that said, “Laboratory—in this room the first five letters of the word was emphasized (强调), not the last seven.” In other words, I guess, labor(工作) for her was more important than oratory, which means making speeches.‎ She prepared her work very carefully and demanded of us to do the same. We got lots of homework from her. Once she had broken her arm, and everybody in the class thought that maybe the homework load would be reduced, but it continued just the same. She checked our work by stamping her name at the bottom of the papers to show that she had read them.‎ I think sometimes teachers who demand the most are liked the least. But as time goes by, this discipline really seems to benefit (有益于) the students.‎ ‎28. Which of the following is considered a good teacher by the writer?‎ ‎  A. A patient teacher.                B. An honest teacher.‎ ‎      C. A strict teacher.                 D. A hard-working teacher.‎ ‎29. The teacher put up the sign over her classroom door      .‎ A. to remind the students that this room was a laboratory B. to tell the students to work hard in the classroom C. to warn the students not to be careless D. to advise the students to follow the disciplines ‎30. When the teacher’s arm was broken, she      .‎ A. gave her students more homework B. gave her students less homework C. asked her students to check the homework themselves D. gave her students the usual amount of homework ‎31. What’s the writer’s opinion of discipline?‎ A. It does good to the students in the long run.‎ B. It’s too much for young children.‎ C. It makes the students dislike their teachers.‎ D. It does more harm than good to the students.‎ D Global GDP in 2030 will be 14% higher as a result of AI(Artificial Intelligence), thanks to improving labor productivity and increasing consumer demand, says a report.‎ The report could increase the enthusiasm of economic policymakers and the public, and show the power of technology in changing not only people’s daily lives, but also economic activities. However, history tells us that, while technological advancements have brought us benefits, they have also led to great social disorders, by changing the production and labor structures, and forcing many workers to either adapt to the changes or lose their jobs. In the 18th century, for instance, skilled workers rose up to resist the Industrial Revolution, destroying machinery in the early 19th century. We may not see similar protests today, but history should serve as a warning against the application of AI technology.‎ While we may gain a lot of benefits from AI, we must work out plans to reduce its negative effect on society, especially for workers. AI can raise productivity and expand GDP, but it can also make non-adaptive workers jobless. In India, some technology personnel have already felt the negative effect of information technology. As technology industries across the world seek increasing support from automation(自动操作), robotics and big data analysis, some technology workers have already lost their jobs.‎ In their 2013 research study, Michael Osborne and Carl Frey from Oxford University estimated 47% of the jobs in the United States are “at risk” of being automated in the next 20 years. They said jobs in transportation and office and administrative support are at high risk of being automated. And Kaifu Lee recently ‎ said that robots could take away about 50% of all jobs from humans in the next decade.‎ Those estimates may sound sensational and the impact of technological advancements may not be that serious, as they will also create jobs in new industries. However, policymakers should consider how to better embrace the technological wave to bring benefits while taking action to minimize its negative effects. The government therefore needs to work together with business leaders and social organizations, to promote training programs for potentially helpless workers, in order to make them more capable of adapting to the structural changes in industries and job markets in the future.‎ 32. Paragraph 2 mainly wants to tell us that technological advancements have ___‎ A. caused some social problems B. improved our daily lives C. brought us a lot of benefits ‎ D. led to great unemployment ‎33.We can learn from the passage that ________.‎ A. the government should discover people’s potentials B. technology workers are more likely to survive AI technology C. we should take action to meet the challenge of the AI technology D. most workers are willing to accept the changes brought by AI technology ‎34.The underlined word “sensational” in the last paragraph probably means______‎ A. inspiring B. powerful C. shocking D. wonderful ‎35.The passage is intended to ________.‎ A. warn us against the negative effects of AI technology B. present the good and bad effects of AI technology C. inform us of the development of AI technology D. arouse people’s enthusiasm for AI technology 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Memory loss can occur to anyone. If you are unable to take good care of your memory, then chances are that you will suffer from memory loss at a very young age. 36 .‎ Stress is a state of mental or emotional fatigue(疲劳). 37 .This is the reason why we fail to remember or learn new things when we are mentally stressed. To prevent stress-related loss of memory and learning ability, one has to find the factors that increase stress and anxiety and deal with them.‎ If you exercise on a regular basis, your body will become stronger over time. 38 .As your brain does more exercise, it gets healthier and works better. This is why students are encouraged to do mind exercises or play mind-related games regularly.‎ ‎ 39 .It allows good blood circulation(循环) in the body and enable the mind to process present as well as past information quickly. However, many people neglect the importance of doing so. Also, always include healthy foods in your daily diet that can improve your memory, such as blueberries, spinach and broccoli.‎ These are just some of the causes of memory loss. At present, experts are unable to tell exactly what the main reason leading to memory loss is. This is because there could be many reasons leading to it, such as environmental factors. The brain is a complex organ. 40 .What matters is that you are able to follow the right set of guidelines to ‎ prevent yourself from suffering from memory loss. ‎ A. Having a healthy and balanced diet is very important B. It affects the memory and learning ability of an individual C. Trying giving yourself a break will be a good way ‎ D.
