The first time I met him, I felt as if I found my other half. I ran to Mrs Rose and asked if Christopher could sit next to me. Weeks passed and I realized Christopher was in fact exactly like me. My classmates stayed away from Christopher because he had to get pricked(刺痛)every time he ate sweets like cookies. He also wore a metal medical alert bracelet(警报手链). The day before spring break all sorts of candies and desserts were passed out. Mrs. Rose invited all our parents. I ate every sugary sweet I could find and got a couple for Christopher too, but he didn’t touch them. I kept asking him to eat them, but he ran out of the room madly. I sat there shocked and puzzled. I went home that night with a million questions. My mom told me that Christopher had diabetes and that was the reason why he couldn’t eat as much sugar as everyone else. And he had to get his finger pricked to make sure his blood sugar wasn’t too high, because if it was, he could be in serious danger. He wore the metal alert bracelet because it had all his medical information in it, in case he had an emergency. When we got back, I told the class about Christopher’s diabetes, and suggested that every snack or sweet that we brought to class should be appropriate for him to eat. Surprisingly, all of them agreed. Months went by and Christopher was happier than ever. He didn’t feel so left out during snack time ‎ because everyone was eating the same treat. I realized that this was exactly what Christopher wanted-friends who could accept him and love him for who he was. ‎ ‎25. What was the children’s attitude towards Christopher at the beginning? A. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I wanted to meet people and have new experiences so I decided to start volunteering. I searched on my computer and found a website where I could volunteer on a farm in France. My time working on a farm was a new experience for me. It was basically a free holiday as food and accommodation were provided. However, it was not your typical holiday as I had to look after fifteen horses and sleep at the top of a tower in a castle! I was an awful farmer but it did not matter because I made some great friends. However, you do not need to go abroad to volunteer. I have had plenty of adventures at home as volunteering can become a hobby. For example, I love singing so I had a good laugh waving my arms in an attempt to conduct my local choir(合唱团). I did slowly improve and it felt great to conduct the choir in a concert. At university, I organised a concert for charity(慈善) with my friends. It was really fun finding bands and raising money for a cause we believe in. It is true that you feel good volunteering but there are also other advantages. I once volunteered as a server at a charity sports event where the organizers gave me cupcakes to thank me for my services. I also volunteered in a charity shop so I found loads of nice cheap clothes to update my wardrobe(衣柜). While this is all fun, my favourite aspect of volunteering is creating and sharing stories. My terrible attempts at farming have given me hilarious stories to tell! Talking to volunteers from different countries and backgrounds has also helped me learn more about the world. I feel thankful to have had so much fun with many nice people thanks to volunteering. 32. Why did the author want to volunteer? A. He wanted to go abroad.       B. He felt ashamed of himself. C. He wanted to be a farmer.      D. He wanted to taste new life and make friends. 33. The underlined word “hilarious” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to _______ A. funny      B. negative     C. awful      D. sad 34. What volunteering work did the author do? A. Helping in a charity shop       B. Conducting a choir in a sports event C. Helping in an Italian farm       D. Taking care of sheep 35. How does the author feel according to the last paragraph? A. Curious.     B. Anxious.     C. Grateful.     D. Cautious. 第二节  (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)  根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 While you are travelling abroad, cultural mistakes are more serious than language mistakes, which can lead to serious misunderstanding and even ill—feeling between individuals.  _____36______ ●Touching Someone _____37_____  In Mediterranean countries,if you don’t touch someone’s arm when talking to them or if you don't greet them with kisses or a warm hug,you’11 be considered cold. But backslap(拍背)someone who isn’t a family member or a good friend in Korea, and you’ll make them uncomfortable. In Thailand, the head is considered sacred—never even pat a child on the head.‎ ‎   ●Talking Over Dinner     In some countries, like China,Japan and some African nations, don't start chatting about your ‎ day’s adventures while everyone else is digging into dinner.   ____38_____  It's not because your group is unfriendly, but because meal times are for eating, not talking. ●Removing Your Shoes or Not Take off your shoes when arriving at the door of a London dinner party and the hostess will find you uncivilized, but fail to remove your shoes before entering a home in Asia,Hawaii,or the Pacific Islands and you’11 be considered disrespectful. So,if you see a row of shoes at the door, start undoing your laces. ____39_____     Once you are on the ground of a different country, remain highly sensitive to native behavior.____40_____  And don’t feel offended if something seems offensive—like queue jumping. After all, this is a global village, and we are all very different.     A.Personal space varies as you travel the globe.     B.Asians consider removing shoes impolite at home.     C.Never be completely surprised by anything.     D.The language mistake means that someone is not fully expressing his idea.     E.Look out for the following cultural mistakes and try to avoid them.     F.If not, keep the shoes on.     G.You’11 likely be met with silence.‎ 第二部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1. 5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 As a young man, Al was a skilled artist, a potter(陶工)with a wife and  41  fine sons. How I miss the time spent on the playground!                                  However, never will I forget my dream---to study in a top university in Beijing. So I am to face all hardships and keep on moving. Also, I’ll try to balance my study and exercise so that I can achieve my dream with a healthy body. Best wishes!                                                       Yours LiHua ‎
