Whenever we attended dinner parties, my dad would talk about his friend Charles Barkley. The first time my dad told the story, I didn't pretend to know who this person was. Basketball has never been my thing. I googled Charles Barkley. He seemed pretty famous and definitely not like anyone who would be friends with my dad. But, as a modern young man, I knew that people have very loose definitions of the word friend.
My dad showed me their texts and photos. I began to think that either my dad was one of the luckiest basketball fans ever or this whole thing was just a joke. But I was wrong. The friendship was real. One day Barkley came to my home to visit my father. Then I know how the relationship began.
"It was, like, one of the most random things," Barkley recalled with a laugh.
"I was on a business trip, "my dad said, "and was walking in the hotel lobby, and I saw Charles Barkley."
"I was in Sacramento speaking at a charity event," Barkley said.

"I was just sitting at the bar, "Barkley said."And we were the only two people there. We just sat down and started talking. "
"He's a super﹣nice guy."
"And before we know it, we looked at each other like,'Yo, man, I'm hungry. Let's go to a restaurant, Barkley said. "It turned into a two﹣hour dinner. And then we actually went back to the bar and just sat there and talked about for another couple of hours."

Everyone is piled high with by﹣products of a culture which in the past 10 years has gone from thinking that a cup of coffee is best enjoyed sitting down, in a break from a busy day, to one where if you're not constantly rushing, you may get to work to find your desk gone. Gone are the thick white mugs, washed and reused until they broke. Instead, we've a vast new industry of disposables (一次性用品) for coffee on the go.
Cosla Coffee alone uses more than 100 million disposable coffee cups a year. Add to that Starbucks, Caffe Nero and other coffee shops; and you get something approaching 500 million paper cups and a billion napkins, plus plastic knives, spoons and sandwich boxes to get rid of, just in the UK, every year.
There are no regulations determining what materials they use or how they dispose of any of it, So they do what they like, which turns out to vary wildly. One reason may be that three different government departments are in charge of waste management. Communities Secretary is responsible for local rubbish collection, Environment Secretary for waste policy, and Energy and Climate Change Secretary the aspect of, well, dealing with climate change. When I1 asked the major chains about their recycling policies, Starbucks said, "We're aiming to make our cups recyclable in the near future."Its salad containers are biodegradable (可生物降解的): and its sandwich containers, being a sandwich themselves of paper and film, are only recyclable once they're torn apart. However, you don't see many people doing that.
Costa's cardboard cups can't be recycled, because although the cardboard is recyclable, the ink and the glue aren't. So it's planning to use vegetable ink and degradable glue on its cups.

Results of a recent study indicate that distracted (注意力分散的) eaters are less able to recall what they ate and more likely to snack later. As an alternative, mindful eating may help you avoid extra pounds and unnecessary snacking. Researchers had 22 volunteers eat a meal while playing computer games and 22 others eat the same meal in the same amount of time while undistracted. They told the subjects it was a test of the effect of food on memory, but actually they were testing how full people felt after a meal, how much they ate at a "taste test" 30 minutes later, and how successfully they could recall exactly what they ate.
Results showed that those who ate while distracted felt significantly less full just after the meal, and they were worse at remembering what they had eaten than those who were not distracted. In addition, at the taste﹣test session 30 minutes later, distracted eaters consumed twice as many cookies as those who were not distracted. The senior author Jefrey advises, "Avoiding eating in front of a computer screen might temper the tendency to snack later in the day. Memory plays an important role in the regulation of food intake, "he said, "and distractions during eating ruin that.

better than coffee;chains? Everyone is piled high with by﹣products of a culture which in the past 10 years has gone from thinking that a cup of coffee is best enjoyed sitting down, in a break from a busy day, to one where if you're not constantly rushing, you may get to work to find your desk gone. Gone are the thick white mugs, washed and reused until they broke. Instead, we've a vast new industry of disposables (一次性用品) for coffee on the go.
