Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Roy, and this is my show. This is a television show for all families, and I know you'll enjoy it. Let's start with a story.
Once there was a proud pig on a farm. He thought he was the most important of all the animals on the farm. But it was not enough that he himself thought this. He had to be sure that other animals thought it, too. So he went up to a chicken and asked,"Who is the most important animal on the farm?" The chicken answered, " You are, Mr Pig." Then he asked a dog, and he got the same reply.
Next, he asked a cow. When the cow seemed uncertained of the right answer, the pig looked angry, and showed his teeth." Oh, you are, of course, Mr Pig," said the cow. " Of course," the pig said, " there is no doubt about it."
At last the pig asked a big horse the same question. The horse lifted one foot, rolled the pig over and placed his foot on the pig's head. "I think you know the answer now," said the horse.

There were once two brothers who lived on the 80th floor. On coming home one day, they realized to their dismay(沮丧)that the lifts were not working and they had to climb the stairs to get home. After struggling to the 20th floor, panting and tired, they decided to abandon(放弃) their bags and come back for them the next day. They left their bags and climbed on.
When they struggled to the 40th floor, the younger brother started to grumble(抱怨) and both of them began to quarrel. They continued to climb the steps, quarreling all the way to the 60th floor.
They then realized that they had only 20 more floors to climb, and they decided to stop quarreling and continue climbing in peace. They silently climbed on and reached their home at last. Each stood calmly and waited for the other to open the door. They then realized that the key was in one of their bags, which were left on the 20th floor.
This story is a reflection(折射)on our lives. Many of us live under the expectations of our parents, teachers and friends when we are young. We seldom get to do the things that we really love. We begin to feel unsatisfied and start to complain and criticize. We live miserable lives, as we are never satisfied. Reaching 60, we realize that we have little left to complain about, and we begin to walk the final episode in peace and calmness.
We think that there is nothing left to disappoint us, only the realization that we cannot rest in peace because we have an unfulfilled dream 一 a dream we abandoned many years ago.

Welcome to your future life!
You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. Your face is firm and young-looking. In 2035, medical technology is better than ever. Many people at your age could live to be 150, so at 40, you’re not old at all. And your parents just had an anti-aging(抗衰老的) treatment. Now, all three of you look the same age!
You say to your shirt, “Turn red.” It changes from blue to red. In 2035, “smart clothes” contain particles(粒子) much smaller than the cells(细胞) in your body. The particles can be programmed to change your clothes’ color or pattern(样式).
You walk into the kitchen. You pick up the milk, but a voice says,“ You shouldn’t drink that!” Your fridge has read the chip (芯片) that contains information about the milk , and it knows the milk is old . In 2035, every article of food in the grocery store has such a chip.
It’s time to go to work. In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your “smart car” where to go. On the way, you can call a friend using your jacket sleeve. Such “smart technology” is all around you.
So will all these things come true? “For new technology to succeed,” says scientist
Andrew Zolli ,“it has to be so much better that it replaces what we have already.” The Internet is one example—what will be the next?

B. Future technology in everyday life.
C. Medical treatments of the future.
D. The reason for the success of new technology.

Shopping in the United States changes a lot.About ninety years ago most people shopped in small stores that were owned by one person or a family.Women went from the bakery to the butcher’s to the grocer and on to the fruit and vegetable seller in order to get their food for the week. Then, about sixty years ago, supermarkets were born.In a supermarket, people could get all the different kinds of food they needed without going to different stores.
The next big change in shopping in the United States was the shopping mall.A shopping mall is groups of stores under one roof.Because malls allowed people to shop without worrying about the weather, they soon became very popular. The mall became a place for people to socialize in addition to shopping. If you walk through a mall, you will see older people sitting, chatting and drinking coffee.Malls are places for teenagers to hang out. Many teens will often just “go to the mall” and spend time with their friends.
The recent change in American shopping was the superstore.Large chain stores such as Wal-Mart, Office Depot and Toys“R”Us have been built all across the United States.Because they are so large, they can buy goods at a great discount and sell them much cheaper than smaller stores.Sometimes, when they are built near small towns, many of the small town stores have to close. They just cannot compete with their giant neighbors.
And now, online shopping is becoming more and more popular all over the States.People are
too busy to go to the physical stores, so they go shopping over the Internet.Online shopping has lots of advantages. For example, online stores are usually available 24 hours a day.Searching or browsing online shops can be faster than browsing the physical stores. While, online shopping also has its disadvantages.People are at higher risk of being cheated on the part of the businessman than in a physical store. And privacy(私密) of personal information may be let out.
13. Which of the following shows the right order of shopping development in the United States?
①. Small stores ②. Superstores ③. Shopping malls
④. Shopping online ⑤. Supermarkets
A. ①②③④⑤ B.①⑤②③④ C.②③④①⑤ D.①⑤③②④
14.Which is the place for people to spend time with others according to the passage?
A. Small stores B. Shopping malls C. Supermarkets. D. Superstores.
15. What’s the disadvantage of online shopping according to the passage?
A. Wasting time.
B.No chance to do physical activities.
C. Making personal information known to others.
D. Fixed prices

16 You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how:
Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule (计 划) of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good regular time for studying.17 A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study. Look about the house for a good study area. Keep this
space, which may be a desk or just a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
Make good use of your time in class. 18 . Listening carefully in class means less work later. Besides, taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says. Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.__19 If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you’ll remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried. 20 You will probably discover them after you have tried these.
A.There are other methods that might help you with your studying.
B. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for fun.
C. Make use of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.
