It is a great event with more than 700 shows.‎ ‎⑲This festival first started in 1970. It was set up by a farmer. At that time, only about 1,500 people attended it. ⑳But today, more than 150,000 people appear for a weekend of live music and dance. If you want to attend it, you need to buy the ticket early. The tickets for this year have been sold out.‎ I have to say that I have never been to the festivals, but I would love to go. Now I will watch all the activities on TV at home. It's reported that it will rain then. But I won't have to worry about the weather.‎ 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)‎ 第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。‎ A 21‎ Goodreads recommends the following books you want to read for the event to come.‎ ‎1.The Lyrics:1961~2012‎ By Bob Dylan Simon & Schuster,$60‎ What it's about:This heavy, welltimed publication contains lyrics by the songwriter who just won the Nobel Prize in Literature, from his first album,Bob Dylan, through Tempest.‎ What's to love:The times may be changing, but Dylan's fans are constant, traditional devotees, who will want this epic collection for their shelves, to sit beside those beloved old large papers.‎ ‎2.Taylor Swift:This Is Our Song By Tyler Conroy Simon & Schuster,$28‎ What it's about:An elegant fanzine celebrating all things about Taylor Swift, especially the pop star's countless fans.‎ What's to love:Mom and/or Dad,the fans of Taylor Swift, will think you're pretty cool if he or she discovers this temple to Taylor under the Christmas tree(even if it is a book).‎ ‎3.Misty Copeland By Gregg Delman Rizzoli,$39.95‎ What it's about:Starfigure female ballet dancer Misty Copeland strikes a pose(95,to be exact) in photos taken between 2011 and 2014,in the casual setting of dance studios.‎ What's to love:Since becoming the first African American woman to be named a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre,Copeland has become a cultural phenomenon, and Delman's arresting pictures capture(捕捉)her muscular power and elegance.‎ ‎4.@ NatGeo:The Most Popular Instagram Photos By National Geographic National Geographic,$19.95‎ What it's about:National Geographic's popular Instagram account (nearly 63 million followers)comes to book form in this title filled with eyepopping images from around the world.‎ 21‎ What's to love:Here's proof that NatGeo's talented photographers have conquered social media while maintaining that usual quality of their work. And for fans of more traditional coffeetablesize books, check out National Geographic's Wild,Beautiful Places:PicturePerfect Journeys Around the Globe($40).‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文主要推荐了几本在圣诞节期间值得阅读的书。‎ ‎21.Which author is noted for literature achievements?‎ A.Bob Dylan. The impact was so loud that it made birds fly out of their trees three miles away.I don't think he entered the water at all.He just bounced off it,about fifteen feet back into the air. After that,he lay still on the surface, spinning like an autumn leaf.‎ He was brought to shore by two passing fishermen in a rowboat and placed on an old blanket where he spent the rest of the afternoon.Occasionally he accepted small sips of water, but otherwise was too shocked to speak. From head to toe,he was covered with deep red bruises.‎ It was the best day of my life.‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。 ‎ ‎24.How did the writer find Mr. David's plan to jump from the diving board?‎ A.Heroic. B.Disappointing.‎ C.Crazy. D.Confusing.‎ 解析:选C 观点态度题。 C。‎ 21‎ ‎25.In Paragraph 3,Mr. David is described as “a tiny, stick figure” because he was________.‎ A.very far away B.very small and thin C.tired after swimming D.sure to be broken 解析:选A 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“...when he got there but even from such a distance the high board seemed almost to touch the clouds.” A。‎ ‎26.Why did Mr. David suddenly start swinging his arms and legs during the dive?‎ A.He thought it was the best way to slow his fall.‎ B.He wanted to show his courage.‎ C.He was signaling the crowd for help.‎ D.He lost his confidence and started to panic.‎ 解析:选D 细节理解题。 D。‎ ‎27.Which of the following sentences from the passage is an example of a fact?‎ A.He hit the water at over six hundred miles an hour.‎ B.He was brought to shore by two passing fishermen in a rowboat.‎ C.He just bounced off it, about fifteen feet back into the air.‎ D.The impact was so loud that it made birds fly out of trees up to three miles away.‎ 解析:选B 细节理解题。 B。‎ C I used to believe courtesy was a thing of the past. Very seldom have I encountered a courteous human being in this modern era.‎ Recently, I had to change my thinking, when I came face to face with just such a human being in a coffee place, with my two daughters. The place was crowded as usual and we had to climb steep(陡的) stairs in order to find an empty table. After enjoying coffee and snacks, we went down the narrow stairs, where there was hardly any space for another person to either climb up or come down.‎ Just as I was in the middle of the stairs, a man entered the main entrance of the restaurant which was right in front of the staircase(楼梯). I was sure I would be pushed roughly by this man going up. I kept coming down as fast as I could. My 21‎ ‎ daughters were already down, looking up at me worriedly, hoping I would reach them before the stranger started walking up the stairs, knowing I was a nervous sort.‎ Nearly reaching them, I noticed the man still standing near the door. I reached my daughters and passed the stranger at the entrance door which he kept holding open. I looked back, thinking he was still at the door, deciding whether to go in or find another less crowded place. I saw him going up the stairs, two at a time. I told my daughters about it and all three of us felt bad that we did not even thank the courteous gentleman who was actually holding the door open for us ladies to pass through before going up.‎ Such wellmannered people are hard to find these days when pushing is very common in our advanced but aggressive society. ‎ ‎28.What is the meaning of the underlined word “courtesy” in Paragraph 1?‎ A.A brave action. That's what researchers found when they played recordings of people for elephants in Kenya. Scientists say this is an advanced thinking skill that other animals haven't shown. It let elephants figure out who is a threat and who isn't. The result shows that the clever animals are also studying people, said study author Karen McComb.‎ ‎“Basically, they have developed this very rich knowledge of the humans that they share their habitat with,”said McComb,a professor at the University of Sussex in England. “Memory is key. They must build up that knowledge somehow.”‎ The study was released on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.‎ It's close to but not quite like the Dr. Seuss book, where the elephant Horton hears something that others can't hear.‎ McComb and colleagues went to Amboseli National Park in Kenya, where hundreds of wild elephants live among humans, sometimes coming in conflict over scarce water. The scientists used voice recordings of Maasai men,who on occasion kill elephants, and Kamba men,who are less of a threat to the elephants.‎ As a result, the elephants reacted more defensively—retreating and gathering in a bunch—to the Maasai language recording because it was associated with the more threatening human tribe, said study coauthor Graeme Shannon.‎ They repeated the experiment with recordings of Maasai men and women. Since women almost never spear elephants, the animals reacted less defensively to the women's voices. The same thing happened when they substituted young boys' voices. “Making this kind of fine distinctions in human voice patterns is quite remarkable,”said Emory University animal cognition expert Frans de Waal, who was not part of the study.‎ 21‎ ‎【解题导语】 研究表明野生大象能够识别男、女和男孩的声音,它们通过思维区分声音并判断谁能对他们产生威胁。‎ ‎32.Who were the people taking part in the study?‎ A.Frans de Waal and Karen McComb.‎ B.Dr.Seuss and Graeme Shannon.‎ C.Graeme Shannon and Frans de Waal.‎ D.Karen McComb and Graeme Shannon.‎ 解析:选D 细节理解题。 ‎ ‎33.What can wild elephants benefit from their special ability?‎ A.Identifying and avoiding possible danger.‎ B.Growing much faster than any other animals.‎ C.Having a better understanding of humans.‎ D.Developing their language skills.‎ 解析:选A 推理判断题。根据文章第一段中的“Scientists say this is an advanced thinking skill that other animals haven't shown. It let elephants figure out who is a threat and who isn't.” ‎ ‎34.Which can replace the underlined word “substituted” in the last paragraph?‎ A.Distinguished. B.Repeated.‎ C.Used. D.Compared.‎ 解析:选C 词义猜测题。画线词所在句中的“The same thing happened”指的是前一句中的“the animals reacted less defensively to the women's voices”,画线词所在句讲的是野象对年轻男孩的声音做出的反应,说明当时研究者在对野象播放年轻男孩的声音,选C项。‎ ‎35.What does the passage mainly talk about?‎ A.Wild elephants can distinguish human languages.‎ B.The conflict between humans and wild elephants is growing.‎ C.Wild elephants use language skills to make discrimination.‎ D.Wild elephants can build up good memory and learn tricks.‎ 解析:选A 主旨大意题。根据文章第一句“Wild elephants can tell whether a voice comes from a man,a woman or a boy”和全文内容可知,野象能够通过人的声音区分不同人类群体的性别和年龄,故选A项(野象能够区分人类的语言)。 ‎ Health is the most important thing in the world. 21‎ ‎39. ‎ ‎40.解析:选E 根据文章最后一段中的“These things sound easy to do, but not many people can manage them.” ‎
