A An egg sinks to the bottom if you drop it into a glass of ordinary drinking water but what happens if you add salt? The results are very interesting and can teach you some fun facts about density(密度).‎ What you'll need:‎ ‎*One egg *Water *Salt *A tall drinking glass Instructions:‎ Pour water into the glass until it is about half full.‎ Mix in lots of salt(about 6 tablespoons).‎ Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full(be careful not to mix the salt water with the plain water).‎ Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens.‎ What's happening?‎ Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water. The denser the liquid is,the easier it is for an object to float in it. When you lower the egg into the liquid it drops through the normal tap water until it reaches the salt water, and at this point the water is dense enough for the egg to float. If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they would not mix, enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass.‎ ‎【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了鸡蛋放入盐水中的实验过程。‎ ‎1.Which of the following is the CORRECT order?‎ ‎①Mix in lots of salt.‎ ‎②Gently lower the egg into the water.‎ ‎③Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full.‎ ‎④Pour water into the glass until it is about half full.‎ A.④②①③ B.④①③②‎ C.①④③② D.③④①②‎ ‎【答案】B ‎ ‎2.What will happen if you drop an egg into a glass of water with about 6 tablespoons of salt?‎ A.It will float in the water.‎ B.It will sink to the bottom.‎ C.Nothing will happen.‎ D.The result is not known.‎ ‎【答案】A ‎3.Why can the egg float in the water according to the passage?‎ A.Because ordinary tap water is denser than salt water.‎ B.Because ordinary tap water is as dense as salt water.‎ C.Because the denser the liquid is,the easier it is for an object to float in it.‎ D.Because the more the liquid there is,the easier it is for an object to float in it.‎ ‎【答案】C ‎ ‎【解析】[考查细节理解。根据最后一部分中的“Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water. The denser the liquid is,the easier it is for an object to float in it.”可知,液体的密度越大,物体越容易漂浮,而鸡蛋能够在盐水中浮起来是因为盐水的密度大,故选C。]‎ B Goodreads recommends the following books you want to read for the event to come.‎ ‎1.The Lyrics:19612012‎ By Bob Dylan Simon& Schuster,$60‎ What it's about:This heavy, welltimed publication contains lyrics by the songwriter who just won the Nobel Prize in Literature, from his first album,Bob Dylan, through Tempest.‎ What's to love:The times may be changing, but Dylan's fans are constant-traditional devotees who will want this epic collection for their shelves,to sit beside those beloved old large papers.‎ ‎2.Taylor Swift:This Is Our Song By Tyler Conroy Simon & Schuster,$28‎ What it's about:An elegant fanzine celebrating all things about Taylor Swift, especially the pop star's countless fans.‎ What's to love:Mom and/or Dad,the fans of Taylor Swift, will think you're pretty cool if he or she discovers this temple to Taylor under the Christmas tree(even if it is a book).‎ ‎3.Misty Copeland By Gregg Delman Rizzoli,$39.95‎ What it's about:Star figure female ballet dancer Misty Copeland strikes a pose(95,to be exact)in photos taken between 2011 and 2014,in the casual setting of dance studios.‎ What's to love:Since becoming the first African American woman to be named a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre,Copeland has become a cultural phenomenon, and Delman's arresting pictures capture(捕捉)her muscular power and elegance.‎ ‎4.@NatGeo:The Most Popular Instagram Photos By National Geographic National Geographic,$19.95‎ What it's about:National Geographic's popular Instagram account(nearly 63 million followers)comes to book form in this title filled with eyepopping images from around the world.‎ What's to love:Here's proof that NatGeo's talented photographers have conquered social media while maintaining the usual quality of their work. And for fans of more traditional coffeetablesize books, check out National Geographic's Wild,Beautiful Places:PicturePerfect Journeys Around the Globe($40).‎ ‎【语篇解读】 本文主要推荐了几本在圣诞节期间值得阅读的书。‎ ‎4.Which author is noted for literature achievements?‎ A.Bob Dylan. Power,a Californian market research company, tracks the number of mechanical and design problems reported per 100 vehicles by more than 21,000 Chinese drivers.‎ It documented 131 problems per 100 domestic(国内的)vehicles, compared with 95 per 100 foreign vehicles. The 36point gap was the narrowest in the study's seven year history. When China overtook the US as the world's largest car maker in 2009,the gap between domestic and foreign cars was 145 points.“It's evidence to the improvements that domestic brands have been making,”said Geoff Broderick, head of J.D. Power's operations,“By 2018 the domestic and the global brands will be equal in terms of quality.”‎ Despite the steady improvement in quality, local vehicle makers have been performing poorly this year. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, domestic brands' share of the market for cars—not including SUVs—has fallen from about 25 percent to 20 percent.‎ ‎“Chinese customers are very picky in the world because they have been trained to distrust products,” said Mr. Broderick, citing scandals(丑闻)affecting baby milk powder and toys. “They go into a situation expecting there could be quality issues, whereas in the West we trust the brands.”‎ ‎【语篇解读】调查显示,中国制造的汽车质量大幅度提高,但是市场份额却下降了。‎ ‎8.What was the gap between Chinese vehicles and foreign vehicles in 2016?‎ A.131 points. B.145 points.‎ C.95 points. D.36 points.‎ ‎【答案】D ‎【解析】考查细节理解。根据文章第一段和第四段的第二句“The 36point gap was the narrowest in the study's seven year history.”可知,2016年中国汽车和外国汽车的差距最小,是36个点。‎ ‎9.The data in the fourth paragraph show that ________.‎ A.the market share of the domestic cars has dropped B.the quality of domestic vehicles has been improved C.China's cars have many mechanical and design problems D.J.D. Power has done many surveys in the past seven years ‎【答案】B ‎ ‎【解析】考查推理判断。根据第四段的整体内容尤其是“It's evidence to the improvements that domestic brands have been making”可知,国产汽车的质量得到了提高。故选B。‎ ‎10.J.D. Power is ________.‎ A.a name of a company B.a car maker C.a head of an association D.a milk brand ‎【答案】A ‎ ‎11.According to what Mr. Broderick said in the last paragraph,we can learn that ________.‎ A.Chinese car market will be optimistic as expected B.Chinese and western consumers have different attitudes to products C.he doesn't like Chinese customers because they don't trust products D.it is easier for China's car companies to sell cars to the West ‎【答案】B ‎【解析】考查推理判断。根据最后一段中的“Chinese customers are very... products”和“They go into a situation expecting there could be quality issues, whereas in the West we trust the brands”可推知,Mr.Broderick所说的话体现了中外消费者对产品的不同态度。‎
