The travel, the adventure, the danger, and the steady pay were all attractive to young Henson. One day, he found a job as a cabin boy off a beautiful ship called the Katie Hinds. For the next five years. Henson sailed around the world. With the help of the ship’s captain and other members of the crew, Henson learned mathematics, navigation, history, geography, and many other subjects. By the time he left the Katie Hinds in 1885, Henson was well educated and had become an excellent seaman.‎ Unable to find work anywhere else, Henson took a job in a hat shop in Washington‎, ‎D.C.‎ One day in 1887, a man came in to buy a hat. The man, Robert Peary, asked the owner if he knew anyone with experience at sea. Peary would soon travel to South America for the U.S.‎ government. He needed experienced men to accompany him. The shop owner knew about his young employee’s skills and experience on ocean journeys, so he introduced Peary to Henson.‎ Using his map-reading and sailing skills, Henson proved himself to be a worthy and smart seaman. Peary soon made Henson his assistant, and they became close friends. One day Peary told Henson about his real dream: to be the first man to stand on “the top of the world" at the North Pole. He asked Henson to help him make his dream come true. Over the next five years, the two explorers made two trips together to the Arctic. However, they were not able to reach the pole either time. The cold, wind, and ice ‎ were worse than either of them had ever imagined.‎ In 1908, Peary and Henson were ready to make their final attempt at reaching the North Pole. Both men were over forty years old. The years of hardship in the arctic cold had taken their toll on both men. This would be their last chance. With four Inuit guides, they made a mad rush straight across the ice toward the pole. Peary’s feet were injured and he had to be pulled on a dogsled. In April 1909, Henson’s instruments showed they were standing at the North Pole. Together Henson and Peary planted the American flag in the snow.‎ In later years, Robert Peary and Henson were greatly honored for their achievements. Today, the two friends and fellow explorers lie in heroes’ graves not far apart in the Arlington‎ National ‎Cemetery.‎ ‎24. From paragraph 1, we can know how Henson ________.‎ A. travelled at sea ‎ B. was highly educated ‎ C. became interested in sea exploring D. was skilled in sailing ‎25. Mirta had often stared at Abuela Lena's collection of china plates that were displayed so lovingly on a narrow shelf in her dining room. Unluckily, the morning’s hunt for an affordable treasure had been disappointing, and Mirta was quickly losing her patience. She was about to give up when she saw a reasonably priced plate that was simply perfect. She took the plate and headed towards the dealer to pay for it when the plate slipped out of her hands, hit the ground, and broke into half a dozen pieces.‎ ‎“You don’t have to say it.” Mirta said to the dealer. “I broke it; I bought ‎ it.” Mirta paid the full price and picked up the pieces, which she noticed were still quite pretty, even though they were now not particularly useful for display purposes.‎ The dealer smiled, “I know how you feel. I was rather clumsy(笨拙的) myself this morning. I broke two plates while putting these out.” He pointed to a box of broken pieces. An idea suddenly came into Mirta’s head as she looked at the pieces in the box. One dish was white with colorful flowers and the other was bright yellow with a red border.‎ ‎“Can I buy these, too?” she asked.‎ ‎“You can have them!” the dealer responded in surprise.‎ Mirta gave the pieces to Abuela in a decorative bag with a note: “You always taught me to appreciate the beauty in everything. This may look like junk, but we can turn it into a beautiful work of art.” She thought Abuela Lena might like the gift even more than a perfect plate.‎ ‎27. What did Mirta’s actions after she dropped the plate tell us about her?‎ A. She was tired of choosing a gift. B. She did not want to give damaged gifts to others.‎ C. She thought of beauty as the most important. D. She accepted responsibility for her behaviour.‎ ‎28. In addition to getting help from a doctor or counselor, here are four things you can do to feel better.‎ Exercise. Take a 15-30 minutes’ walk every day---or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer.  31 But make yourself do it anyway. Ask a friend to exercise with you if you need to be motivated. Once you get in the exercise habit, it won’t take long to notice a difference in your mood.‎ Identify troubles, but don’t think a lot about them. Try to identify any situation that has led to your depression. When you know what’s got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. 32 . If there’s no one to tell, pouring your heart out to a journal work just as well. Once you air out these thoughts and feelings, turn your attention to something positive. Take action to solve problems.‎ Express yourself. 33 By exercising your imagination (painting, drawing, writing, dancing, etc.) you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also relax some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about---a funny movie, perhaps. 34 ‎ Look on the bright side. Depression affects a person’s thoughts, making everything seem dark, negative and hopeless. If depression makes you notice only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, and then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. 35 Depression takes time to heal.‎ A.Laughter helps lighten your mood.‎ B.First of all, you should know why you feel so depressed.‎ C.People who are depressed may not feel much like being active.‎ D.Yoga can also help people with depression feel better.‎ E.Most of all, don’t forget to be patient with yourself. ‎ F.With depression, a person’s creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked.‎ G.Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding.‎ 第三部分:语言运用(共两节, 满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分, 满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文, 从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ After all of these years I can still remember my first moment of kindness. It was the first day of the kindergarten. I walked in with my mom and was 36 at all the toys against the walls. I used to be very proud of my hometown because of its wonderful cultural relics. However, when I showed some of my relatives around my hometown this summer, I was astonished to see that many temples and palaces had fallen into a rather poor state of repair. I think we need to take immediate action to protect them, for all cultural relics ‎ are part of our history and they tell us how people lived in the past.‎ Therefore, my friends and I are going to organize an activity at nine o’clock on Sunday morning in the city-centre square to draw attention to this problem. We are going to print some leaflets beforehand and take some photos to put a board in the square to tell people of the importance of protecting the cultural relics. ‎ I hope more of you can join in because I believe that through our efforts, things will change for the better.‎ ‎ ‎
