Tencent announced yesterday that it will limit the daily time for youngsters to play its popular King of Glory game after parents and schools in Shanghai and other areas complained their children had become addicted to playing it.
From tomorrow, children younger than 12 will only be allowed to play the game for a maximum(最大值) of one hour a day, and after 9 pm, they will be banned from logging into it, said Tencent. Those older than 12 will be able to play a maximum two hours a day.
The game system will remind players the time they have been playing and young players will be forced to log out when the time is up.
Tencent claimed these were the strictest measures in China’s game industry to prevent addiction and the company expected they would ease parents’ anxiety.
The company also said it had updated its system for parents to keep tabs on their children using its games.
Since February, parents can receive messages when children log in and spend money on the
game after they connect children’s game accounts with their mobile phone numbers.
Now, parents can connect phones, tablets or computers that their children use to play games, so that they can keep an eye on the children even if they have several game accounts, Tencent said.
Song Zhe, a father of a Shanghai high school student, welcomed the measures but was not sure if they would be sufficiently effective. “I like the system that could lock up the devices as children can register many accounts,” he said, “but children are so clever that they can always think out counter measures.”
39. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A. Kids under 11 could play the game for at most 7 hours in a week.
B. Girls under 8 are able to log in the game at 10 pm.
C. Those older than 16 are able to play the game all the time.
D. Children over 13 can log in the game after playing 3 hours in a day.
40. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined phrase “keep tabs on”?
A. Be careful with.
B. Be in control of.
C. Have an eye on.
D. Keep contact with.
41. What did Song Zhe’s father think of the game system?
A. The game system was absolutely welcomed by him.
B. Children were too dull to break out of the system.
C. He was uncertain about the effectiveness of the system.
D. Children could register lots of accounts to unlock the devices.
C
A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure(安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.
Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say that this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate better with their friends.
Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation
by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.
42. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. Kids have a dull routine every day
B. It benefits teenagers to have freedom.
C. Kids know how to live independently.
D. Some parents allow their kids no freedom.
43. Which is true according to the author?
A. Kids should focus on the school work.
B. It is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone.
C. Good friendships between kids harm their school work.
D. Parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends.
44. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?
A. Disappointed B. Lucky
C. Angry D. Calm
45. Why does the author hope to have her door locked?
A. To prevent her mother entering her room.
B. To keep her father from reading her dairy.
C. To protect herself from any harm.
D. To stop thieves from going in.

Building the thinking habit is important because it helps you live with a purpose. How can we build the thinking habit? Here are some tips.
Be curious
Curiosity is powerful. 46 It also helps you recognize the ideas when they come. Curiosity is an important attitude to have in building the thinking habit.
Read widely
If you want to come up with good ideas, you need to feed your mind with good ideas. 47 This will give you fresh, new ideas. Don’t just read from the fields you are familiar with. Read from other fields as well.
Read actively
Not only should you read widely, but also you should read actively. Find some ideas and think about how you can use them. My favorite way to do this is by highlighting the book I read. I will then put the actionable ideas in my idea journal. 48
Keep an idea journal
When you find a good idea, don’t just keep it in your mind. Instead, write it down to catch the idea. 49 Keeping an idea journal makes you more alert to new ideas. You will quickly recognize them because you already have the habit of catching ideas.
50
Of course, it doesn’t do you much good if you just write down ideas. Take time to read these ideas every now and then. In my case, I mark the ideas that I consider important and review them regularly. This often opens the way to new ideas.
A. Go over your ideas
B. Design your own ideas
C. One way to do that is to read.
D. It makes you like finding new ideas.
E. Otherwise, the idea might be gone forever.
F. This helps me get the most out of the book.
G. In this way, others can also benefit from your ideas.

Possible version
Dear my classmates,
Mobile phones are so popular at present that we can not live without them. However, I still want to persuade some of you to drop the habit of playing with mobile phones. It is allowed for us to carry mobile phones while in school, but when you get to school you are asked to turn them off. After school you can turn on the power again. Walking in the street I hope you mustn’t look through the materials on the phones in case of some accidents happening while playing. As we know, as a student, we should pay more attention to the study. Mobile phones should be used to help us to communicate with our parents and assist us with learning things. Playing too much with them will certainly do harm to our health and study.
Yours,
Li Hua
