Making friends is a skill like many other skills. It improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some action. You must first go where there are people. You won’t make friends staying home alone, join a club or a group. Talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier. Or join someone in some activities. Many people are nervous when talking to strangers. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it’s human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown. Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves We imagine other people are judging us or finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don’t forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept yourself as you are and try to put the other person at ease. You’ll both feel more comfortable.
Try to act self—confidently even if you don’t feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile.
If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t wait for the other person to start a conversation.
Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person—friendship is based on mutual liking and “give and take”. It takes time and effort to develop.
24. You can’t make friends if you .
A. take some actions B. go to the people
C. wouldn’t like to meet people D. won’t start a conversation

A. never judge others when we meet strangers B. meeting more unknown people

D. Meeting someone new means you will make friends with that person.

M: It was a bad dream.
W: What’s up?
M: Actually, the business trip was very successful. We arrived on time. We had nice conversations. And we settled some important issues for the next year.
W: Sounds quite good. Why did you call it a bad dream then?
M: Well, the airline lost my luggage on the return flight, and then I lost my watch when I was dealing with the officers at the airport. I left the airport three hours later than I expected and then I was caught in a traffic jam. When I finally got home, I was totally tired. But I found the lift was out of service because of power failures. And I live on the 18th floor!
W: This is really a sad story. Did they finally get your luggage back?
M: Yes.

Hello. My name is John Williams. I’m an English teacher. And I have started a website to help you improve your English listening and speaking skills as quickly as possible. My online English lessons take just 5 to 10 minutes each day to complete. And there are no advertisements to take your attention away. You can also download the sound files to your computers or mobile phones and take your lessons anytime.
I’ve designed the online English course to be a very easy, cheap and quick way to improve your English speaking, listening and conversation skills. Every day, you’ll learn some new English vocabulary and expressions. And you’ll feel more confident in making and working with new friends in English. You’ll also learn correct English
pronunciation.
I always make sure my online English lessons are short, interesting and easy to remember. My idea of learning English is that it’s best for you to learn a little each day and remember it clearly. This idea doesn’t mean a new method, but instead it is a concept(观念). I hope you can accept it.
