Using motion capture technology, researchers found that movements of both the upper and lower body reveal certain personalities, such as aggression, agreeableness and outgoingness.‎ ‎ The technology is widely used to record the movements of an actor, which are then translated to an animated character on screen.‎ Lead researcher Liam Satchell said," When one is walking, the body naturally swings(摇摆)a little. An aggressive walk is one where this rotation is exaggerated. The study also found that personalities that help with social skills - such as agreeableness and outgoingness - were particularly evident in people with increased pelvis(骨盆) movement alone.‎ ‎“While little swagger(大摇大摆)and little sway in a walk could indicate a person of great creativity,” MrSatchell told Mail Online. The study assessed the personalities of 29 participants using a standard personality test. Participants were also asked to complete a questionnaire that measured their levels of aggression. Motion capture technology was then used to record how they walked on a running machine at their natural speed. While people may be aware that there is a relationship between swagger and psychology, this is the first research to provide evidence based on experiments.‎ ‎ "We know of no other examples of research where the walk has been shown to have close connection with self-reported measures of personalities and suggest that more research should be conducted between automatic movements and personality. If CCTV observers could be trained to recognize the aggressive walk shown in this research, their ability to recognize crimes likely to happen very soon could be improved further " said Mr Satchell.‎ ‎24. What can we know about “motion capture technology”?‎ A. It is specially intended for fast-moving objects.         ‎ B. It helps to improve actor’s acting techniques.  ‎ C. It has been widely used in the field of film.       ‎ D. It is a kind of exaggerated shooting skill.‎ ‎25. People who walk with less overall movements tend to be _______.‎ A. aggressive   B. creative    C. shy    D. honest ‎26. What do Mr Satchelll’s words in Paragraph 4 suggest?‎ A. There’s a long way to carry out such studies.‎ B. The findings will be mainly used to prevent crimes. ‎ C. The research result has been put into practice.     ‎ D. There’s no relation between aggression and walk. ‎ ‎27. What is the suitable title for the passage?‎ A. What is your personality type?‎ B. A new way of recognizing crimes  C. How to read a person’s intention   ‎ D. Walking gives away your personality C The average person learns most of the 30 000~40 000 words whose meanings he or she recognizes by hearing them or getting familiar with them in the context or simply absorbing them without conscious effort. The best way to build a good vocabulary, therefore, is to read a great deal and to participate in a lot of good talks. There are relatively few words that we learn permanently by purposefully referring to dictionaries or keeping word lists. However, even those extra few are of value, and no one will make a mistake by working on developing a larger vocabulary. Here are some suggestions of how to do it. ‎ Read plenty of good books. When you come across a new word, or a new meaning of an old word, stop and see if you can understand it from its context. If you can't, and if you can manage without interrupting the thought of the book too much, look it up in a dictionary or ask somebody and then repeat its meaning to yourself a couple of times. If you are really conscientious(认真的), write the word and its meaning in a personal vocabulary list — preferably using it in a sentence, or you can keep a special vocabulary notebook. Go over the list from time to time. Further, try to use a new word in writing or conversation a few times over the next several days. ‎ Listen to good talks and be alert to new words you hear or to new meanings of words you already know. Then treat them just as you treat the new words you read. ‎ Learn and be alert to the parts of words: prefixes, suffixes and roots. Knowing them enables you to make intelligent guesses about the meaning of words. ‎ If you are studying a foreign language, be alert to words in that language which relate to words in English. English has inherited(继承) or borrowed much of its vocabulary of 500 000~600 000 words from Latin, Greek, French, Spanish and German. ‎ ‎28. When you meet a new word in reading, what should you do? ‎ A. Guess its meaning. B. Ask somebody. ‎ C. Look it up in a dictionary. D. All of the above. ‎ ‎29. According to this passage, the best way to build a good vocabulary is _______. ‎ ‎ A. to remember a lot B. to read a great deal ‎ C. to take part in a lot of good talks D. both B and C ‎ ‎30. The phrase “be alert to” in the third paragraph may best be replaced by “_______”. ‎ A. look at B. pay attention to C. write down D. learn by heart ‎ ‎31. In the fourth paragraph, the word “them” refers to _______. ‎ A. the parts of words B. prefixes C.suffixes D. roots D There is no denying that some people live to be older than others. Followed are the standard explanations: keeping a moderate diet, engaging in regular exercise, etc. But what effect does your personality have on your longevity (长寿)? Are there any kinds of personalities contributing to longer lives? A new study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society looked at these questions by examining the personality characteristics of 246 children of people who had lived to be at least 100.‎ ‎ According to the study, those who live the longest are more outgoing, more active and less neurotic(神经质的)than other people. Long-living women are also more likely to be sympathetic and cooperative than women with a normal life span. These findings are in agreement with what you would expect from the evolutionary theory: those who like to make friends and help others can gather enough resources to make it through tough times.‎ ‎ Interestingly, however, other characteristics that you might consider advantageous had no impact on whether study participants were likely to live longer. Those who were more self-disciplined, for instance, were no more likely to live to be very old. Also, being open to new ideas had no relationship to long life, which might explain all those bad-tempered old people who are fixed in their ways.‎ ‎ Whether you can successfully change your personality as an adult is the subject of a longstanding psychological debate. But the new paper suggests that if you want long life, you should strive to be as outgoing as possible.‎ ‎ Unfortunately, another recent study shows that your mother's personality may also help determine your longevity. That study looked at nearly 28, 000 Norwegian mothers and found that those moms who were more anxious, depressed and angry were more likely to feed their kids unhealthy diets. Patterns of childhood eating can be hard to break when we're adults, which may mean that kids of depressed moms end up dying younger.‎ ‎ Personality isn't destiny, and everyone knows that individuals can learn to change. But both studies show that long life isn't just a matter of your physical health but of your mental health.‎ ‎32.The purpose of the study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society is .‎ A. to see whether people’s personality affects their life span ‎ B. to find out if one’s lifestyle has any effect on their health C. to investigate the role of exercise in living a long life D. to examine all the factors contributing to longevity ‎33. What does the author imply about outgoing and sympathetic people?‎ A. They have a good understanding of evolution. ‎ B. They are better at negotiating an agreement.‎ C. They are more likely to get over hardship. ‎ D. They generally appear more resourceful.‎ ‎34. What finding of the study might prove somewhat out of our expectation?‎ A. Easy-going people can also live a relatively long life.‎ B. Such characteristics as self-discipline have no effect on longevity.‎ C. Advantageous personality characteristics actually vary with times.‎ D. Readiness to accept new ideas helps one enjoy longevity.‎ ‎35.What is the main idea of this passage?‎ A. Anger and depression cut one’s life span short. ‎ B. Health is in large part related to one’s lifestyle.‎ C. Personality plays a decisive role in longevity.‎ D Longevity results from mental and physical health. ‎ ‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Are Your Clothes Causing Pollution?
