People who have seen Trisha Seifried Woodall with her cats say that she has a magic touch. Most people don't know anyone who can order a cat to jump on a table, sit for two minutes, and then jump to the floor and walk backward.
Ms. Seifried Woodall has taught her cats to do all these tricks -- and many more. At her training center. Got Pet-ential, cats learn tricks for TV and magazine ads. Some of her cats have appeared on bags of cat food.
When Ms. Seifried Woodall gets a cat, she first learns what that cat likes and doesn’t like. “Some cats like to stay close to the ground, so I'll teach them how to stand behind me, and walk with me,”she says. “Other cats, like high places, so they'll learn how to jump on my bent knee and then safely leap to my shoulder.”
Ms. Seifried Woodall grew up in a family with many pets, and she was first paid to work with animals when she was 18. At a summer job at an amusement park, she learned how to train a few of the animals for performances. She continued to train and learn about animals for 20 years before starting her own animal-training center.
Ms. Seifried Woodall is proud of the skills her cats have learned, but she is also proud that her center’s cats are healthy and social. She believes her cats enjoy learning new tricks.
In Ms. Seifried Woodall’s experience, no breed(品种) of cat is easier to train than others. All of her cats came from shelters. They have become pets in her home.
Like most animal trainers, Ms. Seifried Woodall uses a reward system. Cats that are successful during training get food or a new toy. A cat that doesn’t enjoy eating or playing will probably not be interested in being trained. She never scolds(责骂) them. “Cats need a lot of encouragement when they are performing, she says." I say good job or that’s right several times during a single minute.”
4. What are the cats trained by Ms. Seifried Woodall mainly used to do?
A. Work for amusement parks. B. Act in TV and magazine ads.
C. Become people’s family pets D. Set a good example to other cats.
5. What can we learn about Ms. Seifried Woodall and her cat-training job?
A. She usually trains cats at her home.
B. She prefers training cats that are active.
C. She trains cats according to their characters.
D. She can train any cat to be well-behaved.
6. What did Ms. Seifried Woodall do before becoming a cat trainer?
A. She took care of pets for families.
B. She performed at an amusement park.
C. She worked in an animal shelter.
D. She worked with animals for years.
7. Which of the following can best describe Ms. Seifried Woodall?

On a recent trip to London, I decided to visit some exciting new restaurants that are using technology to change the way people dine out. My first stop was at an Italian restaurant in the city center. When I walked into the restaurant, I was given a tray(托盘)and a special card, but I had no idea what to do next! The manager came up to me and explained that I could swipe (刷) my card at any of the food and drink stations in the restaurant, and that the card would record my order. No waiters necessary! I made my selection and then handed my card to the cashier. Once I’d paid for my meal, I collected it and made my way to the dining area on the second floor. The food was very delicious, but, I must admit, I didn’t enjoy having to carry my food up two flights of stairs.
On the next night, a friend of mine suggested that we visit his favorite high-tech restaurant. When we arrived, I was surprised to discover that there were no paper menus; instead, the menus appeared on the touch screen surface of the table. All we had to do was touch our choices with our fingers and wait for the waiters to bring us our meal. The touch screen tabletop also allowed us to change different tablecloths and even play games. We had so much fun playing games that we hardly touched our food when it arrived--we really should have told the waiter to give us takeaways instead.
On my last day in London, I decided to get some tapas from a Spanish takeaway near my hotel. I had heard that the owners had placed a webcam(网络摄像机) at the restaurant to allow their customers to watch the long lunchtime queue(队列) online. This came in very handy for me. While I packed my baggage, I kept an eye on the queue and then raced to the restaurant when the lunchtime rush was over. Without that wonderful webcam, I could have missed my plane.
8. What’s so special about the first restaurant?
A. It has no dining-table. B. It offers a takeaway service.
C. It is a self-service restaurant. D. It serves inexpensive local food.
9. What part of the second restaurant made a deep impression on the author?
A. Its delicious food. B. Its high-tech tables.
C. Its game machines. D. Its colourful tablecloths.
10. What does the underlined word "handy" in the last paragraph mean?
A. Easy B. Useful
C. Special D. Surprising
11. How does the author mainly develop this text?
A. By giving instructions B. By making comparisons.
C. By following the order of time D. By following the order of importance

TV, iPads, and computers are fun and sometimes educational, but many people think the technology is bad. My parents let me watch one or two shows or play a game on the iPad for an hour, but then make me find thing else to do, like read or draw a picture. They say that too much screen time won’t help me become smarter.
I think that it is okay to watch TV, but not too much. And some of my friends agree.
"A tiny bit of screen time is okay,” Mateo J., 7, said. "But too much of it is not good for your brain.”
Though my friends and I sometimes complain(抱怨), we think that it's good our parents limit our screen time.
“Our parents should limit our technology time because otherwise you might get carried away and not even know that you’ve stayed inside all day watching TV, " Naomi J.,9, said.
The American Academy of Pediatrics(AAP) used to recommend(推荐) that parents let kids have about two hours of screen time per day, but in 2016, they started recommending that parents of kids 6 and older decide for themselves how much time is okay, as long as the shows and games are appropriate. The AAP still says that kids 2-5 years old should have only about one hour of screen time per day, and kids under 2 no screen time at all. The AAP says that media you’ve stayed inside all day in all forms, including TV, computers, and smartphones, can affect how children feel, learn, think, and behave. However, parents are still the most important influence.
I think TV shows like Brain Games and Cupcake Wars are inspiring. I’ve even learned some magic while watching Brain Games! Video games can be educational, as some TV shows are about nature, and other shows have useful messages. But some games and shows have bad things in them, like smoking.
You can play outside instead of watching TV. Find other things to do. You don t have to be or screens all day.
12. How much screen time do the author’s parents allow him every day?
A. No screen time. B. Half an hour.
C. Only one hour. D. About two hours
13. What does Naomi J. think of his parents limiting his technology time?
A. It is acceptable. B. It is unfair to him.
C. It makes no sense. D. It goes against the law.
14. Which of the following does the AAP probably agree with?
A. Two hours of screen time is good for kids 2-5 years old.
B. Kids who spend much time on screens often behave badly
C. The younger the kids are, the less screen time they should have.
D. Parents should not encourage kids to watch TV or play video games.
15. What does the author advise you to do?
A. Avoid playing video games. B. Learn from different games.
C. Form a good habit of learning. D. Cut down on your screen time.
C 13. A 14. C 15. D

根据第六段中的“they started recommending that parents of kids 6 and older decide for themselves how much time is okay, as long as the shows and games are appropriate. The AAP still says that kids 2-5 years old should have only about one hour of screen time per day, and kids under 2 no screen time at all.
根据最后一段“ You can play outside instead of watching TV. Find other things to do. You don t have to be or screens all day.”

比如小题3,根据空后“ When you are handed a test, look over all the questions before you begin. ”
以及“Divide your time based on the percentage of your grade each question is worth.” A. Pay attention to the time.“注意时间分配”符合语境,故选A。
如表示转折关系的but,though, however 等。

A. watch手表;B. ring戒指;C. coat外套;D. box箱子。 A ring from the Bible可知,这位女士想让丈夫给她买戒指,故选B。
A. covered覆盖;B. broke打破;C. filled充满;D. left离开。
A. covered覆盖;B. broke打破;C. left 离开;D. filled装满。
A. If如果;B. But但是;C. And和; D. So 所以。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
How to Overcome Test Anxiety
Whoever takes exams will feel more or less tense and anxious
There is no doubt that exams are important to us students, but it’s more important to have a right attitude towards them. As a matter of fact, exams are no more than a means of evaluating, therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the results. Only studying hard every day and making good preparations for exams can we avoid suffering from the pressure of exams.
We’d better go out for a walk or do some outdoor exercise before exams. What’s more, focus on what we are doing during the exams, and try not to distract from others and other things, which contributes to our performances.
So, my suggestion is: don’t worry about exams, try to relax yourself.
