“How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago.
“One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered. “And it’s all the money I have.”
“Well, what a coincidence. A dollar and eleven cents—the exact price of a miracle for little brother,” smiled the man.
“Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the kind of miracle you need.”

English language and British culture courses
EFP Courses provide courses in English language and British culture. Our courses are aimed at students aged between 12 and 17 who are at pre-intermediate level or above in English. The courses are held in Guildford, a historic town near London.
Typical structure of a one-week course
Ø up to 25 hours of English run by native speakers, qualified in teaching English as a foreign language and specialist drama teachers

When we run the courses
EFP courses can be organized only during British state school terms. For this academic year, courses can be booked between now and 23 May and between 30 May and 30 June. We welcome you to book from 3 September 2016 to 25 October 2016 and from 31 October to 20 December 2016.

Many people delight in gossiping, and the more they know about someone else, the more powerful they feel--at someone else's expense. While at the end of the day no good will come of it and someone is bound to get hurt, try telling that to someone who's excited to relay the latest piece of juicy news.
Most people have some awareness when saying something we know we shouldn't. As it is slipping out of our mouths, we start to feel uncomfortable. We have a sense of conflict between finishing the sentence that may draw attention but won't make anyone look good, and awkwardly stopping mid-story. There are those who after spreading gossip end with a well-meaning, "I shouldn't have said anything and I can't really tell you how I heard it." Not any better. Once out, they may feel good for a moment, but they're just as likely to regret their decision. By this time, it is too late.
That said, some people just don't notice or pay attention to the voice in their head saying, "Don't," and others actively ignore it.In the end, the results are the same. With our lack of sensitivity, we say things that should never be said and often don't stop long enough to realize that we have not only hurt others, but we have unintentionally hurt ourselves. Given this, why do people gossip? For some, it feels good to be in control of knowledge that others may not know.
Talking about others can become a habit and unless you work hard to break it, you may discover that others distance themselves from you. After all, if you can't be trusted to keep secrets and not share information, people may choose not to have you as their friend. We have two ears
and just one mouth. When in doubt, it is always better to listen than to speak.

Are you addicted to computer games? Do you stay up all night playing them? Do you feel happy after you play computer games?
There’s no doubt that the excitement and appealing of games these days makes them hard to put down. We are attracted by the choice when it comes to gaming: You can role play--creating your own fantasy characters and stories, giving you a chance to step out of everyday life into an imaginary world. And there are shooting games where you can let out your anger and depression in violent situations where you kill people with guns. You can get excited from the games.
However, can these kinds of games really be fun and can being absorbed in virtual reality be good for us? Should we worry about their effects on our health? Popular games like Grand Theft Auto have been blamed for everything from falling results at school to causing acts of extreme violence. Internet safety advisor, Alan MacKenzie, thinks “any people understandably will just think that a game is just a game and not realizing the exact content that’s in there”. He gives an example of the violence, which he says is “wholly inappropriate for anybody, not to mention children.”
Others will argue that gaming is a harmless form of entertainment. There is evidence that playing video games could actually be good for us. Some games like Game of Thrones and World of Warcraft are educational and using games certainly can help children learn good qualities. Studies have also shown that the skills used in playing games can cause growth in certain areas of the brain, the ability to think in 3D and even improve our eyesight.
Video game players are also no longer just simple creatures. For some, gaming is having a positive effect on their social lives with games like Halo and World of Warcraft often being played in groups. When your group works together to win the game, your sense of achievement is higher than when winning by yourself.
So every coin has two sides. It seems today, gaming isn’t just for game fans and if used in a proper way, we can all take part. If video games have two sides, what side do you stand by?

M: Yes, that’s us!
W: Wonderful. I see half of your group has not yet arrived. I can seat you now, or you can have a drink at the bar while you wait.
M: Oh, I think my wife and I would prefer to sit down now.
W: Would you like a table by the window?
M: Oh, that would be great! And please bring us some ice water and some menus.
W: Coming right up, sir. I can also take any other drink orders besides water.
M: We’ll definitely be ordering a bottle of red wine, and we may also order a bottle of white wine depending on what food we decide to have. But we can take care of that when the others arrive.
W: Very good, sir. I’ll bring you our wine list right away, and I’ll let our wine expert Ralph know that you may have some questions for him.
M: Great, thanks.

M: This is so much fun! I’ve never been to a horse race before.
W: I’m glad you could come. My dad used to take me here all the time when I was a kid. He knew some of the trainers, so we would actually get to go down onto the track and touch the horses before races!
M: Wow! Do you know how to ride a horse?
W: Yeah, I’ve done it a few times. But I don’t think riding a horse and racing a horse are similar at all!
M: You’ve got a point there. So, when does the race start?
W: In less than five minutes. But there will be a dozen races today, so if the next one isn’t very competitive, we’ll still have a chance to see a good race later on.
M: Awesome. Hey, what are all those people doing over there?
W: They’re putting money on which horse will win the race.
M: How do they know who will win?
W: They don’t know for sure. It’s just a way to have fun. All the horses have cool names, and it’s a way to get people excited about cheering for them. Look, that one is named Grandpa!
M: Ha-ha!
W: I’d never put my money on a horse, though. It seems like such a waste.
M: You can say that again! Oh, it looks like the race is about to start!

All right, everyone. Thank you for coming in today. As you all know, we’re here to celebrate the career of Maurice Jones. Mr. Jones joined the company three decades ago. He worked in the mail room after he finished high school, and he got promoted to office manager after a few months because he was so well organized. He stayed in that position for a year and a half, at which point he demanded that the company pay for him to get his degree while he continued to work. This had never happened here at Bradley & Cooper before, but Mr. Jones drives a hard bargain, as you all know so well! Mr. Jones took night classes so he could remain on the team full-time, and his hard work and devotion to learning made him a perfect candidate for a management position. Mr. Jones continued to move up the ladder here, becoming the vice president of operations just five years ago. Mr. Jones will most definitely be missed. We will all remember his warm smile and strong will to succeed. I think everyone could learn a thing or two from Mr. Jones, including me. I’ve been with this company from the very beginning — almost 40 years — and I can tell you that this is one special man right here. Congratulations for making it all the way to retirement! Let’s give Mr. Jones the microphone now so he can say a few words...
