A bicycle may be seen by most people as just another vehicle (交通工具), but for many Londoners, cycling is a way of life. According to an official UK government survey in 2017, about 570,000 bike journeys are made every day in London. In fact, almost half of the vehicles that pass over London Bridge each day are bikes.
London introduced a public bike-sharing system in 2010. “There can be no doubt that our trusty bicycles have changed the way people get around our great city,” Johnson told the Guardian in 2015.
In London, bikes are used for more than just taking short trips to and from the subway. No matter where you want to go in the city, taking a bike is usually the quickest and easiest choice.
And it’s not just shared bikes that the government is encouraging people to ride. In many companies across the UK, the UK government’s Cycle to Work scheme (骑行倡议) allows employees to buy a brand new bike without having to pay any tax (税). This means that it’s common to see many people cycling to and from work, and some employers even provide workplace showers and lockers (储物柜) for their workers. More importantly, a cycle-friendly boss may let you off for being late if you rode a bike to work.
Not only is it great for the environment and our body, cycling is also good for the mind. According to National Geographic Magazine, “Bike riding can improve people’s happiness.”
24. How does the author show the popularity of cycling in London?
A. By giving examples. B. By making comparisons.
C. By using famous sayings. D. By using numbers.
25. What’s Johnson’s attitude toward the bike-sharing system in London?
A. Uninterested. B. Supportive. C. Disappointed. D.
Doubtful.
26. What can employees get from the government under the “Cycle to Work” scheme?
A. Shorter working hours.
B. Free bike-sharing services.
C. A tax-free bike.
D. Workplace showers and lockers.
27. What’s the article mainly about?
A. How cycling has become popular in London.
B. Cycling as a healthy way of life.
C. London’s public bike-sharing system.
D. Why Londoners are encouraged to ride bikes.

We traveled to Moscow, Russia for river sight-seeing. I had never been to Russia and my impression of that country was formed by what I heard and saw on television and in the newspaper. We were to be picked up at the airport by a driver who would then take us to the hotel and then go sightseeing. We arrived on time, got our baggage and went to the gate, but no one was waiting holding a sign with our names.
We had the phone number of the driver and the travel agency but no phone worked in Russia. I noticed a young woman sitting next to me with a cell phone so I asked her if she spoke English and she replied “Yes”. “Could you please call our driver, I would pay for the call,” I asked. “No problem,” she replied and called both numbers but no one answered.
A Russian woman holding a sign with someone’s name on it, not ours, must have overheard this conversation and took the paper and called both numbers. Again, no one answered. She shrugged and sat down and then her phone was ringing (the call was from our driver) and in Russian she had a conversation.
Then she started to tell me about the call from our driver, but in Russian. I said, “No Russian, English?” She said, “No English, Russian or Spanish.” The young woman who had made the first call said she spoke Spanish. So the Russian woman relayed (传达) the information from our driver to the young woman in Spanish. Then the young woman told the information to me in English.
The three of us looked at each other and realized what had just happened and laughed and hugged each other. That was international kindness.
28. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The driver waited for the author at the airport on time.
B. The driver didn’t show up at the airport.
C. The author came to Russia on business.
D. The author knew Russia very well.
29. How can we describe the two women at the airport?
A. Boring. B. Cold. C. Optimistic. D. Warm-hearted.
30. Who can speak English according to the passage?
A. The young woman and the author.
B. The driver and the young woman.
C. The Russian woman and the author.
D. The driver and the Russian woman.
31. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A. The Importance of Language in Communication
B. Things to Prepare During the Trip
C. Kindness Needs No Translation
D. An Experience in Russia

In this day and age, knowing exactly what and how much you’re eating is necessary. You’ve probably used calculators (计算器) on your smartphones before. For example, a calculator will tell you the average number of calories in a hamburger. However, it acts only as a guide, and it can’t tell you exactly how many calories are in the hamburger at your favorite fast food joint. Now Panasonic’s new device, CaloRieco, can actually give you accurate(准确的) information on exactly what is on your plate in a few seconds.
Displayed at the CEATEC 2017 tech show, CaloRieco is a high-tech device that uses light
reflection technology to offer accurate and expeditious calorie information so as to determine the nutritional values of any food. All you have to do is place you plate in the box-shaped device and wait between 10 and 20 seconds for it to analyze all the food there.
Once it’s done analyzing the various foods in your meal, CaloRieco shows the number of calories, as well as the nutritional content on an LED display (显示器). According to Panasonic, the device is able to recognize the vast majority of foods except soups and similar food. CaloRieco can also connect to your smartphone via an app, and send all the data about analyzed foods to your Personal Digital Assistant, so you can access it whenever you need.
Panasonic said that its invention is aimed at people going on a diet and diabetes (糖尿病) sufferers, both of whom make up a very large market. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on your very own CaloRieco, as the device presented at CEATEC is just a model. It’s planned to hit the market sometime in the next few years, but the price remains a mystery.
32. What’s special about the new CaloRieco?
A. It can be linked to our smartphones.
B. It can act as a guide on healthy food.
C. It can tell you the average calories in food.
D. It can provide accurate calorie information on food.
33. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “expeditious” in Paragraph 2?
A. Simple. B. Quick. C. Normal. D. Satisfying.
34. What’s the disadvantage of CaloRieco?
A. It functions poorly with liquid food.
B. It cannot work without an app.
C. It couldn’t be used outdoors.
D. It is difficult to operate.
35. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. We can get CaloRieco at a cheap price.
B. CaloRieco is not suitable for healthy people.
C. CaloRieco can not be bought by people at present.
D. The invention of CaloRieco is proved to be a success.

书面表达( 满分25分)
Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, a student from Senior 2. I am writing to discuss the traffic problem near our
school gate.
With so many parents coming to send and pick up their children, traffic jams are frequent near
the school gate, causing much inconvenience to us students as well as our teachers. So I strongly
recommend some effective measures be taken. First, we should encourage students to ride their
bicycles or walk to school instead of taking cars, which will not only help reduce the jam but
benefit students’ health as well. It is also a good idea to allow Senior One students to leave school
10 minutes earlier than others. Besides, cars should not be allowed to park near the school.
I do hope my suggestions can be considered and the problem can be solved soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
