英语试题 ‎ ‎ 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)‎ 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。‎ A The best London hotels near Oxford Street An expert guide to the top London hotels near Oxford Street—eight minutes' walk or less— including the best hotels for their family-friendly services and budget accommodation.‎ The London EDITION Soho, London, England This place is just off Oxford Street in leafy Fitzrovia. It will suit those who want more than a bed for the night. The multi-functional lobby makes a great entrance, though it's the restored ceiling, old not new, that really grabs the attention. The picture- lined restaurant is an equally successful space. The rooms are a bit like being inside a luxurious cigar box, with their wood-panelled walls and artful fur sofa covers that add a feeling of warmth.‎ The Langham, London Marylebone, London, England An advert from the late 19th century declares that the Langham is situated in the "most healthy, convenient and fashionable position in London. " Today this still holds true; the hotel is right in the centre of London. This is one of London's oldest grand hotels. Everything feels as if it has been running the way it should for a long time. Expect enormous vases of fresh flowers in public areas, oriental furnishings and marble baths in the rooms. This is also home to Michel Roux Jr's Roux, which does tasty French cuisine. ‎ The Grazing Goat Marylebone, London, England The hotel is located on New Quebec Street, a quiet road lined with clothing shops ‎ and beauty salons about three minutes' walk from Oxford Street. There's something of a village feel to this area of London that is difficult to correspond with the tourist groups moments away—but it's most welcome. Rooms have Egyptian cotton beds, Aesop toilets and walls in the color of moss green and steel blue. The food menu offers seasonal British foods with the latest trendy ingredients.‎ ‎21.In The London EDITION, customers are most likely to be attracted by its .‎ A.multi-functional lobby B.restored ceiling C.luxurious cigar box D.wood-panel led walls ‎22.What do The Langham, London and The Grazing Goat have in common?‎ A.They are old grand hotels. B.They serve delicious French cuisine.‎ C.They offer fresh flowers in their bedrooms. ‎ D.They are located in Marylebone, London.‎ ‎23.Which hotel gives customers the feeling of being in the rural area?‎ A.The London EDITION. B.The Langham, London.‎ C.The Grazing Goat. D.All the above.‎ ‎ B I grew up with easy access to books, and I’ve always felt that I benefited from it, even if it was as simple as always having something to do. For that reason, I make sure that the children who are a part of my life also have books, often giving them as gifts.‎ This desire to surround kids with books isn't just in my head. A recent study has demonstrated that children who grow up with home libraries perform better later in life when it comes to literacy(读写能力),applying math skills to everyday life and learning how to use digital technology. Reading is a gift that keeps on giving, apparently.‎ The study collected data from 160,000 adults from across 31 countries who participated in the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies(PIAAC).The PIAAC measures adults' skills in three categories: literacy, numeracy(计算能力)and digital literacy.‎ Participants in the PIAAC were asked to estimate how many books were in their ‎ households by the time they were 16 years old. The average number in the study was 115 books, but the actual numbers would vary from country to country. Turkish participants averaged 27,while those in Norway had 212 and kids in the UK had 143.The study found that the more books that were present in the home, the better the adults scored in the PIAAC evaluations.‎ Homes needed to have roughly 80 books to have any impact on the teens, raising PIAAC scores to the average level. Literacy scores in particular improved when more books were available, though they became steady at around 350 books. Numeracy skills improved in similar ways to literacy. Solving problems with digital technologies also saw improvement, but the score gains weren't as steep as they were for literacy or numeracy.‎ Access to books also helped to bridge education differences. Those who grew up without many books in the home and received university degrees performed roughly the same as those who had access to large home libraries and only completed nine years of school.‎ ‎24What is the author's attitude towards children reading books?‎ A.Unconcerned. B.Doubtful. C.Cautious. D.Approving.‎ ‎25.According to the study,______.‎ A.the only way to raise PIAAC scores is to read books B.the purpose of the PLAAC is to measure one's reading, math and technology skills C.participants from the UK performed best in the PIAAC D.the more kinds of books one reads at home, the higher score one will get in the PIAAC ‎26.What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ A.Access to books can help one receive a university degree.‎ B.Bookish adolescence can make up for a shorter education.‎ C.Those who grew up without many books wouldn't receive a university degree.‎ D.People with a basic education performed better than those with a higher level of education.‎ ‎27.Which of the following is the best title for the text?‎ A.Reading Lots of Books as a Kid Helps Later in Life B.Reading Books Helps Improve One's Intelligence C.Reading-The Best Way to Improve One's Social Skills D.Why Reading Makes One a Better Person ‎ C Have you ever thought of quitting your job when you feel exhausted? Maybe most of you would say “yes”. After a particularly busy period at work, I decided to get away from it all by going on a hike in the mountains in southern France.‎ Before I left, I read an interesting story in a magazine. It read, “Once, while I was riding on a crowded bus, the man sitting next to me threw his cell phone out of the window when his phone rang. I was surprised. He looked at me, shrugged (耸耸肩) and looked away. I had no idea whether it was his or stolen or whether he even knew what a cell phone was or not, but he clearly wanted to be free of it, because it clearly troubled him.”‎ Billions of people across the world use cell phones. Though cell phones are a wonderful way for communication, they often do the exact opposite. Using cell phones can increase stress within families and friends.‎ So when I recently returned home, I got rid of my cell phone. Now I go outside without taking my phone with me. I’ve noticed things in my neighborhood I never noticed before, such as gardens. I’ve met new people, started conversations with neighbors I didn’t speak to before and talked with some of my friends face to face instead of chatting over the phone.‎ Instead of keeping me off from the world, stopping using my cell phone has helped me get even closer to my family and friends.‎ ‎28.According to the story, the man on the bus threw away his cell phone because .‎ A.it didn’t work properly B.it was stolen from someone else C.he didn’t like the phone’s style D.he didn’t want to be bothered by it ‎29.We can learn from the passage that cell phones .‎ A.are too expensive for many people B.are of no use to the author C.can also get people into trouble D.can make life more interesting ‎30.What can we learn about the author?‎ A.He wants to own a garden now. B.He always chatted with his neighbors.‎ C.He used to take his cell phone when going outside.‎ D.He once threw away his cell phone.‎ ‎31.The main purpose of the passage is to .‎ A.tell us not to let cell phones control our lives B.encourage others to hike with him in France C.share his experiences in France with us D.teach us how to get along with neighbors ‎ D The bad health effects of sleep loss during the week can’t be repaid by longer weekend sleep, according to a new study.‎ Researchers have long known that sleep deprivation (剥夺) can cause weight gain and increase other health risks. But for those who force themselves out of bed every weekday after too few hours of shut eye, they hope turning off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debt and remove any ill effects.‎ The research, published in Current Biology, crushes those hopes. Despite complete freedom to sleep during a weekend recovery period, people in a sleep lab who were limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and experienced disorders that would increase their risk for diabetes over the long term. While weekend recovery sleep had some benefits after a single week of sleep loss, those gains were wiped out when people fell right back into their same sleep deprived schedule the next Monday.‎ ‎''If there are benefits of catch-up sleep, they're gone when you go back to your daily schedule. It's very short lived'', said Kenneth Wright, director of the sleep and chronobiology lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder. ''These health effects are long term. It's kind of like smoking once was-people would smoke and wouldn't see ‎ an immediate effect on their health, but people will say now that smoking is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I think sleep is in the early stage of where smoking used to be.''‎ Wright said that the study suggests people should put sleep in the first place cutting out the ''sleep stealers'' such as watching television shows or spending time on their phones. Even when people don't have a choice about losing sleep because of child-care responsibilities or job schedules, they should think about getting sleep in the same way they would get a healthy diet or exercise.‎ ‎32.What does the underlined word ''rushes'' mean?‎ A.Ruins. B.Guarantees.‎ C.Deepens. D.Arouses.‎ ‎33.What will Kenneth Wright agree with?‎ A.Smoking is more harmful than sleep loss.‎ B.Weekend recovery sleep has many benefits.‎ C.Smoking and sleep loss have the same bad effects.‎ D.It takes long for people to see the effects of sleep loss.‎ ‎34.What does Kenneth Wright advise people to do?‎ A.Take regular exercise every day.‎ B.Reduce the screen time before sleep.‎ C.Watch some TV shows before bedtime.‎ D.Sleep as long as possible during weekdays.‎ ‎35.What is the main purpose of this passage?‎ A.To share some unhappy experiences. B.To show some unknown facts.‎ C.To promote a healthy lifestyle. D.To introduce a new study.‎ 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Once, I had an American friend.
