Senior High school portraits (肖像)may never look the same thanks to an out-of-the-box-thinking(标新立异的) mother and her daughter from Indiana
Ralph and her daughter Christy were looking for ways to increase the fame about their photography studio when Ralph decided to act on an idea she had had in her mind for the past decade.
“I saw a fashion program in Chicago that did a special materials fashion show for charity and I thought I could also do that.”Ralph said. “I have always wanted to build a newspaper dress.”
Ralph and Christy own a studio that focuses mainly on taking students' senior year photos. They recruited(招募) two senior models for this special project.
They worked without a pattern, relying solely on inspiration to create each of the two dresses. They ran into their first trouble when they discovered their small town didn’t sell many newspapers. Ralph estimated they ended up using about 50 newspapers to complete the dresses, which were made of newspapers and duct tape (强力胶布). It literally took them less than two hours per dress to construct them. The process was interrupted by another trouble, a nearly 2-inch flood in their garage-level studio that forced them to grab everything and run upstairs to finish the photo shoot. Although they met with some difficulties, they never gave up.
The photos of the results of their labor spoke for themselves, showing highly detailed dresses with dramatic hair and makeup to match.
“We were all pretty surprised at what we could do in the short time we gave
ourselves," Ralph said. "It makes it more special because it came together that quickly for us." Ralph was so pleased with the results that she posted the first photos immediately on Facebook, where they caught the eye of the media, which came one day later to shoot a whole story on the dresses.
Ralph and her daughter had so much fun, but they are looking forward to providing their customers with something even more surprising.

Sports account for a growing amount of income made on the sales of commercial time by television companies. Many television companies have used sports to attract viewers from particular sections of the general public, and then they have sold audiences to advertisers.
An attraction of sport programs for the major U. S. media companies is that events are often held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons—the slowest time periods of the week for general television viewing. Sport events are the most popular weekend programs, especially among male viewers who may not watch much television at other times during the week. This means the television networks are able to sell advertising time at relatively high prices during what normally would be dead time for programming.
Media corporations also use sports to attract commercial sponsors that might take their advertising dollars elsewhere if television stations did not report certain sports. The people in the advertising departments of major corporations realize that sports attract male viewers. They also realize that most business travelers are men and that many men make family decisions on the purchases of computers, cars and life insurance.
Golf and tennis are special cases for television programming. These sports attract few viewers, and the ratings (收视率) are unusually low. However, the audience for these sports is attractive to certain advertisers. It is made up of people from the highest income groups in the United States, including many lawyers and business managers. This is why television reporting of golf and tennis is sponsored by companies selling highpriced cars, business and personal computers, and holiday trips. This is also why the networks continue to carry these programs regardless of low ratings. Advertisers are willing to pay high fees to reach highincome consumers and those managers who make decisions to buy thousands of “company cars” and computers. With such viewers, these programs don't need high ratings to stay on the air.
61. Television sport programs on weekend afternoons ________.
A.result in more sport events
B.get more viewers to play sports
C.make more people interested in television
D.bring more money to the television networks
62. Why would weekend afternoons become dead time without sport programs?
A.Because there would be few viewers.
B.Because the advertisers would be off work.
C.Because television programs would go slowly.
D.Because viewers would pay less for watching television.
63. In many families, men make decisions on ________.
A.holiday trips B.sports viewing C.television shopping D.expensive purchases
64. The ratings are not important for golf and tennis programs because ________.
A.their advertisers are carmakers B.their viewers are attracted by sports
C.their advertisers target at rich people D.their viewers can afford expensive cars
65. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Television ratings are determined by male viewers.
B.Rich viewers contribute most to television companies.
C.Sports are gaining importance in advertising on television.
D.Commercial advertisers are the major sponsors of sport events.

You' re hanging out in a bar when a stranger comes up to you and offers you a deal on an iPhone 6. He' s clearly in a hurry and says he needs to sell it right now. You should come to the obvious conclusion: The phone is a fake. What are the characteristics of the fakes? Let me show you.
First, by trying out the phone, you might notice that the software response feels slow. That's because the motherboard is from an older model. But there’s another way to tell and that’s more certain: When you look on the back of an iPhone 6, you'll see the phone's electronic serial number-known as the IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity)--engraved in tiny print just under the iPhone logo. This is a unique serial number that identifies the specific phone. If those numbers don’t match up, you’ ve got a fake.
The other way the liar builds fakes is by trying to disguise an Android phone as an iPhone. These are usually easier to spot. You can check out the icons (图标) on the home screen: For example, if you see a Google Play App, it’s not an iPhone. Or try tapping the App Store icon; if it doesn't go to Apple’s App Store, it’s not an iPhone. Other indications that may help you identify a false iPhone: It is that it may be a little thicker than or not quite as heavy as the real thing. The screen resolution (分辨率) may be lower and some details of construction may be wrong.
The bottom line is: That you're in a seemingly legal cellphone store doesn’t mean the iPhone is true. To be absolutely sure, stick with an Apple Store, a store belonging to an authorized seller. And, as always, follow the golden rule: Real iPhones don't sell for $100 - or even twice that, unless they're very old.
66. Which of the following is WRONG to identify whether an iPhone 6 is real?
A. To see its screen resolution. B. To feel its software response.
C. To check its electronic serial number. D. To confirm the existence of an iPhone logo.
67. What does the underlined word “engraved” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Carved. B. Covered. C. Connected. D. Mixed.
68. If an Android phone is disguised as an iPhone, it______.
A. doesn’t have the App Store icon
B. has the same weight as the real one
C. doesn’t have the electronic serial number
D. has a Google Play App or a false App Store icon
68. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Don’t always try to get things on the cheap.
B. It is really difficult to buy a real iPhone 6.
C. Say no to all the cheap things at the store.
D. If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is true.
69. The author writes this passage mainly to tell us______. .
A. not to buy an iPhone 6 from a stranger
B. to buy an iPhone 6 from an Apple Store
C.how to distinguish a false iPhone 6
D.how to choose a good iPhone 6
第II卷(非选择题共35分)
第五部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Most people agree that the direct American personality is a virtue, but it sometimes surprises foreigners. In many cultures, respect for older people or those in positions of authority keeps others from expressing their true feelings. But in the U.S, children often argue with their parents, students may disagree with their teachers, and citizens may express opposition to the actions of the government. If the soup has a fly in it or the meat is too tough to chew, the diner can complain to the waiter, if the boss makes a mistake, an employee will politely point it out.
Some straight talk about the American character must include the admission that Americans have their faults. The extremely competitive nature of Americans is probably their worst fault. Of course, competition isn’t always bad. As a matter of fact, it promotes excellence by encouraging individuals and businesses to try to do their best. But the desire to get ahead of others sometimes causes people to do things that are unkind and even dishonest. Also, Americans admire what is practical, fast, efficient, and fresh. Sometimes they fail to understand and appreciate practices that have greater respect for more traditional, leisurely ways of doing things. On the other hand, people from other cultures may dislike the practical, challenging American lifestyle.
Despite culture differences, most foreigners give Americans credit for their virtues. Americans are generally viewed as friendly, adaptable, energetic, and kindhearted. Most newcomers to the U.S. like Americans, and the feeling is usually mutual(相互的). Perhaps the greatest American virtue is a deep interest in new ideas and new people. In a nation of immigrants, the foreigner does not remain an outsider for long.
71.What American virtues can we learn from the passage? (List three within 10 words)
(1) __ (2) ____ (3) ____
72. For what purpose does the writer give us some examples in the first Paragraph ? (Please answer within 10 words)
73. What does the writer mainly talk about in Paragraph 2? (Please answer within 10 words)
74. What does the underlined part mean? Please explain in English.( (Please answer within 10 words).
75. Do you appreciate the direct American personality? Why? (the reasons should be answered within 20 words.)
