阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
As parents we like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients they need. Children need two or three kinds of vegetables every day.
A simple way to get children to eat vegetables is by eating them ourselves. Following our example, they may start eating vegetables themselves. Don't say things like, "if you eat your vegetables, you can have desserts." The methods work for a little while but can possibly lead them to hate vegetables more. Give your children new varieties of foods which will help them develop a taste for trying new things.
Sometimes the simple things just don't work. We have to start becoming a little creative to make our children eat vegetables. By doing this in the beginning when children are small, we will help them learn to love vegetables.
Think of creative ways to help children eat vegetables. For example, cut up vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and place them in a creative way on a plate for an afternoon snack. Or try using cheese sauce either by dipping vegetables in it or by putting the cheese right on top of the cooked or raw(生的)vegetables.
If you prefer, you can also add a teaspoon of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to make them taste a little sweeter taste. Doing this shouldn't lead to a sweet tooth as long as you only give them a small amount.
If you have children that refuses to eat vegetables, some of these suggestions I've listed will help to turn that around. In the end, you're not only just getting them to eat vegetables, you’re also helping them to live a healthier lifestyle.
21. According to the passage, all the following ways to get children to eat vegetables are creative EXCET _____.
A. preparing carrots in an attractive way
B. adding some cheese sauce to vegetables
C. putting cheese on top of vegetables
D. making vegetables much sweeter
22. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Children need to eat vegetables every day for their health.
B. It’s necessary to think of creative ways to make children eat vegetables.
C. Sugar can make children keep a healthy diet.
D. Parents should help children live a healthy lifestyle.
23. If you want your children to develop the habit of eating vegetables, you should .
A. set an example to them B. be very patient to them
C. give dessert to them as an award D. cut vegetables into different types
B
What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a shop? The products displayed at the entrance? Or the soft background music?
But have you ever notice the smell? Unless it is bad, the answer is likely to be no. But while a shop’s scent may not be outstanding compared with sights and sounds, it is certainly there. And it is providing to be an increasing powerful tool in encouraging people to purchase.
A brand store has become famous for its distinctive scent which floats through the fairly dark hall and out to the entrance, via scent machines. A smell may be attractive but it may not just be used for freshening air. One sports goods company once reported that when it first introduced scent into its stores, customers’ intension to purchase increased by 80 percent.
When it comes to the best shopping streets in Pairs, scent is just as important to a brand’s success as the quality of its window displays and goods on sale. That is mainly because shopping is a very different experience to what it used to be.
Now the rise of electronic commerce(e-commerce)has opened up famous brands to a wider audience. But while e-shops can use sights and sounds, only bricks-and-mortar shops(实体店)can offer a full experience from the minute customers step through the door to the moment they leave. Another brand store seeks to be much more than a shop, but rather a destination. And scent is just one way to achieve this.
Now, a famous store uses complex man-made smell to make sure that the soft scent of baby powder floats through the kid department, and coconut scent in the swimsuit section. A department store has even opened a new lab, inviting customers on a journey into the store’s windows to smell books, pots and drawers, in search of their perfect sent.
24. According to the passage, what is an increasingly powerful tool in the success of some brand store?
A. Friendly assistant. B. Unique scents.
C. Soft background music D. Attractive window display.
25. E-shops are mentioned in the passage to _______ .
A. show the advantages of brick-and-mortar stores
B. urge shop assistants to change their attitude
C. push stores to use sights and sounds
D. introduce the rise of e-commerce
26. Which statement would the writer agree with?
A. Put different shop on the products on display.
B. Ask every shop assistant to wear light perfume.
C. Place fragrant flowers in the shop
D. Expose some coffee bean to air inside a coffee shop.
27. The main purpose of the passage is to ______ .
A. compare and evaluate B. examine and assess
C. inform and explain D. argue and discuss
C
Pacing and Pausing
Sara tried to befriend her old friend Steve's new wife, but Betty never seemed to have anything to say. While Sara felt Betty didn't hold up her end of the conversation, Betty complained to Steve that Sara never gave her a chance to talk. The problem had to do with expectations about pacing and pausing.
Conversation is a turn-taking game. When our habits are similar, there's no problem. But if our habits are different, you may start to talk before I'm finished or fail to take your turn when I'm finished. That's what was happening with Betty and Sara.
It may not be coincidental that Betty, who expected relatively longer pauses between turns, is British, and Sara, who expected relatively shorter pauses, is American. Betty often felt interrupted by Sara. But Betty herself became an interrupter and found herself doing most of the talking when she met a visitor from Finland. And Sara had a hard time cutting in on some speakers from Latin America or Israel.
The general phenomenon, then, is that the small conversation techniques, like pacing and pausing, lead people to draw conclusions not about conversational style but about personality and abilities. These habitual differences are often the basis for dangerous stereotyping (思维定势). And these social phenomena can have very personal consequences. For example, a woman from the southwestern part of the US went to live in an eastern city to take up a job in personnel. When the Personnel Department got together for meetings, she kept searching for the right time to break in--and never found it. Although back home she was considered outgoing and confident, in Washington she was viewed as shy and retiring. When she was evaluated at the end of the year, she was told to take a training course because of her inability to speak up.
That's why slight differences in conversational style--tiny little things like microseconds of pause-can have a great effect on one's life. The result in this case was a judgment of psychological problems---even in the mind of the woman herself, who really wondered what was wrong with her and registered for assertiveness training.
28. What did Sara think of Betty when talking with her?
A. Betty was talkative. B. Betty was an interrupter.
C. Betty did not take her turn. D. Betty paid no attention to Sara.
29. According to the passage, who are likely to expect the shortest pauses between turns?
A. Americans. B. Israelis. C. The British. D. The Finns.
30. We can learn from the passage that __
A. communication breakdown results from short pauses and fast pacing
B. women are unfavorably stereotyped in eastern cities of the US
C. one's inability to speak up is culturally determined sometimes
D. one should receive training to build up one's confidence
31. The underlined word "assertiveness" in the last paragraph probably means __
A. being willing to speak one's mind B. being able to increase one's power
C. being ready to make one's own judgment D. being quick to express one's ideas confidently
D
You get anxious if there’s no wi-fi in the hotel or mobile phone signal up the mountain. You feel upset if your phone is getting low on power and you secretly worry things will go wrong at work if you’re not there. All these can be called “always on” stress caused by smart phone addiction.
For some people, smart phones have liberated them from the nine-to-five work. Flexible working has given them more autonomy(自主权) in their working lives and enabled them to spend more time with their friends and families. For many others though, smartphones have become tyrants(暴君) in their pockets, never allowing them to turn them off, relax and recharge their batteries.
Pittsburgh-based developer Kevin Holesh was worried about how much he was ignoring his family and friends in favor of his iPhone. So he developed an app — Moment — to monitor his usage. The app enables users to see how much time they’re spending on the device and set up warnings if the usage limits are broken. “Moment’s goal is to promote balance in your life,” his website explains. “Some time on your phone, some time off it enjoying your loving family and friends around you.”
Dr. Christine Grant, an occupational psychologist at Coventry University, said, “The effects of this ‘always on’ culture are that your mind is never resting, and you’re not giving your body time to recover, so you’re always stressed. And the more tired and stressed we get, the more mistakes we make. Physical and mental health can suffer.”
And as the number of connected smart phones is increasing, so is the amount of data. This is leading to a sort of decision paralysis (瘫痪) and is creating more stress in the workplace because people have to receive a broader range of data and communications which are often difficult to manage. “It actually makes it more difficult to make decisions and many do less because they’re controlled by it all and feel they can never escape the office,” said Dr. Christine Grant.
32. What’s the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The popularity of smart phones. B. The progress of modern technology.
C. The signs of “always on” stress. D. The cause of smartphone addiction.
33. Kevin Holesh developed Moment to __________.
A. research how people use their mobile phones
B. help people control their use of mobile phones
C. make people better use mobile phones
D. increase the fun of using mobile phones
34. What’s Dr. Christine Grant’s attitude towards “always on” culture?
A. Confused. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Critical.
35. According to the last paragraph, a greater amount of data means __________.
A. we will become less productive B. we can make a decision more quickly
C. we will be equipped with more knowledge D. we can work more effectively

It was sunny today and I was in a good mood. Tired of studying or the noise of city life, I come to the ecology park to enjoy scenery and get relaxing in the afternoon. While I arrived at the park, what came into its sight were the thick green trees. The air was fresh. In addition, I could clearly see a path around the pond. Lying on the grasses decorated with various flowers, I felt with ease because all that I wanted was peace inside.

How should we make good use of classes?
As we all know, class is a place where students ought to work hard to realize their dreams. However, there are some students not using class properly, making things go from bad to worse. For example, some students play mobile phones or sleep in class, wasting quantities of precious time. What's worse, some students enjoy chatting with others. Not only does it affect their own study, but also it will do harm to others.
As far as I am concerned, the main reason is that they don't realize the importance of study. To solve this problem, they have to understand making full use of class is the best way to improve the efficiency of study. After all, time waits for no man.
