Growing pains and gains
Growing up is not easy. As a matter of fact, it's far from easy. Growing up can be a real "pain" for some of us. We are always doing things that some else makes us do and aren't allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel trapped, sometimes we are fearful and sometimes we just don't understand why we can't stay young forever. When we look back on all the hardships in life with a positive attitude(态度),we
realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!
As a young girl my parents forced my sisters and me to do so many things that I never liked. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music, just because it was what they wanted me to do. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I realize that my parents and teachers were always pushing me along not because they wanted me to suffer but because they wanted me to succeed in life. They have always wanted me to have a better life than they did themselves.
Every moment of our lives we are either living or dying, so live life to its fullest! We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just small pains in life. They might seem so huge at the time but we must be strong. Think about how we would feel if we had no fear and live life like that. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps(凸块) on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains.
25. According to Paragraph 1, we learn that when we are young
A. life is full of joy
B. life is easy for us
C. we sometimes can't do things we like
D. we know we can stay young forever
26. When the author was young, she was forced by her parents to__________
A. turn gains into pains B. take music lessons
C. look back on hardship D. live a successful life by suffering a lot
27. What does the underlined phrase"to its fullest" mean?
A.directly B.carefully C. completely D. terribly
C
Have you ever been afraid? Do you feel frightened ,when hearing thunder and seeing lightning ? Maybe your mouth goes dry when your teacher says you will be given a test, or your palms(手掌) sweat when it’s your turn to give your report in front of the class. Perhaps you get butterflies(蝴蝶) in your stomach when you see the bully (欺负人的人) who chooses you.
We all have fears sometimes. That’s true no matter how big we are or how brave we
can be. Fear of getting too close to a campfire may save you from a bad burn. And fear of getting a bad grade on a test may make you study hard. Being nervous can also sharpen your senses and help you perform better during a track meet. Some people even enjoy being a little scared. That’s why they like to watch scary movies.
Usually, our bodies go into fight only when there is something to fear. However, sometimes this happens when there doesn’t seem to be anything to be frightened about. When you feel scared but there doesn’t seem to be a clear reason, that’s called anxiety. For some kids, the feeling of anxiety or worry can happen at any time. For others, it might appear only at certain times, like when they are leaving their home or family to go somewhere. For some people, this feeling of anxiety happens almost all the time and gets in the way of what they want to do.
Tell your parents if your anxiety becomes strong and is getting in the way of what you want to do. Your parents can take you to a doctor, who can help to find out if a medical problem is making you feel anxious. But you can also try these ways to kill the feeling yourself.
28. What does the underlined phrase “get butterflies in your stomach” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. get nervous(紧张不安的) B. get angry C. get hurt D. get excited
29.What does the writer want to show in the second paragraph?
A. Fear is a sign of being sick and unhealthy.
B. Fear can be good to people sometimes.
C. Brave people won’t feel fear whatever happens.
D. Children are easier to show fear than adults.
30. What would be talked about in the next paragraph?
A. The great harm fear does to people’s health.
B. Some good ways to help people deal with fear.
C. Who to turn to for help when people feel anxious.
D. What kind of people can easily feel anxious.
D
Michael was tired of being in the hospital. He wanted to go home and his parents Sarah and Gorge Broad wanted him back.
“Why?” he shouted. “Why do I have to be here? I’m sick of living in a hospital. I can fly. So what? Let me go home!”

It is also a struggle for you to follow your teacher in class and get along with your classmates. You even want to drop out of school. However, there is no need to worry about it . Here are some tips to help you.
First of all ,you should be friendly to anyone who you meet at the new school and try to make friends with them. And it is also a good idea to take part in after-school activities. That can make you happy. Secondly, Why not choose some proper ways to relax. In my opinion, taking exercise ,watching TV or listening to music is a good way to relax yourself. Hello, boys and girls!Today I will briefly introduce the United Kingdom from many different aspects. First, it is one of the most interesting places in the world to visit, having about 6,400 scenic spots. These include museums and galleries like the National Gallery and British Museum, historical monuments like the Tower of London and Windsor Castle, and so on. Secondly, the United Kingdom contains some of the world’s best institutes of higher education, such as the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Third, the United Kingdom has had a great influence on the development of cinema and music. Famous films, include the Harry Potter, Star Wars and James Bond series, originated here. Although the James Bond films are made by American studios, they use British source materials, locations, actors and film crews.
