第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
As is known to all, many things can be measured in terms of data. Sometimes data(数据) can indeed tell the truth. With the help of data we can easily know the price of a can of Coke in the supermarket or the result of a football match. Data can make our life easier and more comfortable. What is more important, data seem to be fairer than words or statements. 31 Nowadays, as lies exist in the world, data are expected to tell the truth. Therefore, many of us would rather believe data.
On the other hand, if we judge things only by data from the so-called specific research, aren’t we a little too narrow-minded? Many people often treat the so-called specific data unwisely just to make sure that they are making the right decisions. 32 For example, how can you tell that somebody isn’t a good student just because he or she doesn’t get high marks in the final examination?
33 For example, the degree of your feeling happy in your life, the depth of love between you and your friends, and the faith you have in your country. We can only feel them in our hearts but can never express them in data.
There is no doubt that analyzing the exact data is important to assessment of an actual event. But data should be dealt with wisely. We often get wrong data which mislead us. 34 Remember, data have no feeling but we humans have. Data do not mean much to people if we do not have the abilities to analyze the data with the knowledge and confidence to judge whether they are true or false. 35
Data are data after all. Life is much more colourful than the pale data. So give the cold data a warm heart and we’ll find that the world is far more wonderful than the pale data can describe.
A. We should try our best to be wise thinkers.
B. If the data are true, we don’t have to worry about being cheated.
C. But sometimes we may find that data aren’t everything.
D. Sometimes our hearts and mind are more sensitive than data.
E. Now and then the so-called specific data puzzle us very much.
F. The exact data should come from assessment of an actual event.
G. There are many things in our life which cannot be measured by data.

M: I'm afraid there's some work we really must finish this evening. I can't possibly do it myself.
W: I suppose so,if you really think it's necessary.
Text 5
W: OK,John. How much do you pay for electricity and telephone services?

W: No problem It's only three stops from here. I'll tell you when we get there-it's my stop, too.
M: Thank you. That is very kind of you.
W: Don't mention it. Do you see those traffic lights ahead? We'll turn left when we get
to them Hayfield Road is the next stop after that Why do you want to get off there?
M: I want to go to the new Technical College.
W: Oh? You won't find it easily if you go down there alone. I'll show you where it is.

Text 8
W: I often find that Chinese people are shy to speak their love to their beloved. Instead, they prefer to do other things to please the beloved ones.
M: But I am wondering what they would like to do. OK,they send you something rather than say“I love you" in front of you because speaking out one's love is considered “embarrassing” in some people's minds. Even if somebody says the words to their beloved ones, they can not accept it
W: Why? Don't you often say that to your close friends, lovers or parents?
M: No. Because we are educated not to show off our feelings publicly.
W: What will a girl do if she loves a boy?
M: She will tell him she loves him by writing or sending messages but hardly by saying the three words.
W: Perhaps nowadays some young people are romantic enough to speak out“I love you!”to their friends.
M: Right. In fact in modern China, more and more young people are influenced by the western thoughts. We can feel western culture from movies,TV plays, books and even school education,so,maybe one day,Chinese people will get used to saying “I love you” every day.
Text 9
W: What can I do for you?

M: Could I have 400 in twenties, and the rest in fives and small changes, please?

Text 10
Outback in the city
In Sydney, you needn't go to the“outback" to find Australian wildlife. The Royal Botanic Gardens located near downtown contains many local plant species. Make sure to see the rare Wollemi Pine. Less than 100 of this ancient tree species exist in the wild.
On the other side of Sydney Harbour sits the Taronga Zoo. Take a cable car to the hilltop entrance. The zoo offers views of koalas, kangaroos and other Australian animals in their recreated habitats. Don't forget to take a picture with a koala!
Australian Culture
Head back to the city and visit some of Sydney's many museums, shops and restaurants. Some of these can be found in The Rocks, the birthplace of modern Australia. The Rocks was originally a penal colony. Its historic buildings now house trendy shops and cafes.
If you want to escape winter, sunny Sydney is the place to run to. So put on some sunscreen and enjoy the Australian summer.
