Eating local food is an important part of any trip abroad. It can help you understand its culture, its customs and its people. Currently I am living in Canada and I am very lucky because I love a lot of the traditional food here, especially as some of it is similar to the food in the UK.
It is quite easy to find food such as baked beans, meat pies and fish and chips, which are all British food but were not very common when I lived in France. Yet it can never be quite the same.
For example, the fish and chips here is not greasy(高脂肪的)so I’m glad that this is propitious to my health. Also , mushy peas and vinegar are not a main part of the fish-and-chip supper in Quebec; once when I ordered the dish in a restaurant, it even came with salad and rice!
However, globalization(全球化) means that many types of food have spread to other countries in one form or another. My friends and family joke that I cannot spend a week without my favorite meal of spaghetti. It is true that in almost every country I have visited, I have enjoyed a meal of spaghetti, in Canada, Germany, Spain, Romania and even in Thailand! However, I always make sure I enjoy the local food too.
From my time in Canada so far , I have known that there will be food I am going to miss when I return home. I will have to make sure that I have enough room in my suitcase to pack a few large bottles of the country’s tastiest treat!
24. What does the author think of local food in every country?
A. It enriches his boring life.
B. It makes him proud of his country.
C. It is similar to the food in the UK.
D. It helps him learn about other countries.
25. What does the underlined word “propitious” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Beneficial. B. Harmful. C. Unnecessary. D. Precious.
26. The author mentions globalization to show that ______.
A. his friends can visit him at any time.
B. food needs to be improved in Canada
C. he can enjoy what he likes in other countries
D. Canada affects the whole world in many aspects.
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Food in Canada is as delicious as that in the Uk.
B. Canadian food deeply influences the author.
C. The author misses his country very much.
D. The author plans to take much food home.

Some of the people who created many popular apps are telling kids to put their phones away—at least, a bit more often. The Center for Humane Technology is made up of people who used to work for big tech companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter. Now they want kids to stop using those apps and websites so much. In early February, the Center launched an awareness campaign called the Truth about Tech. Its goal is to teach students , parents and teachers about the danger of spending too much time on smart phones and tablets.
According to studies about kids and technology, more than 95 per cent of elementary school-aged children spend at least part of every day using a computer, smart phone or tablet. About 78 per cent of teens check their phones every hour, and more than half of them sleep with their phones in case they get a call or message during the night.
Experts say that many people have become addicted to their mobile devices and the apps they use on them. Some of the physical problems that are caused by using phones or computers too much include headaches, eyestrain, neck pain, and trouble sleeping. Sitting around for too many hours while using these devices can also cause people to gain weight and become less physically fit. Spending too much time online also affects how we feel. Many people become anxious or depressed after using social media because they feel they aren’t having as much fun as their friends are. Students who spend a lot of time online may have a harder time paying attention in school and concentrating on their work. They may also find it harder to make friends in real life.
One goal of the Truth about Tech campaign is to make sure that kids understand how technology affects them so they can make better decisions about how and when they use it. The people behind the campaign also want governments and the tech companies themselves to take steps to protect children. They say, when the leaders of the big technology companies are designing tech tools for kids, they should think about what they would want for their own children.
28. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To describe the situation. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To explain the problem. D. To give the evidence.
29. Why do some children sleep with their phones?
A. They want to have a good sleep.
B. They want to get up early every day.
C. They become addicted to mobile phones.
D. They are happy to have their own phones.
30.What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Mobile devices cause great harm to us.
B. Social media plays a big role in our life.
C. Using mobile devices is common for teens.
D.Students should concentrate on their study.
31. What can be the best title for this text?
A. Many popular apps we use every day.
B. Can children have their own phones?
C. How to use mobile devices properly.
D. The Truth about Tech campaign.

For most of my life, I’ve been disappointed in robots.Movies always describe them as smart and cool. But for decades, real robots have been little more than production-line arms at car factories.
In the past three years, though, something has changed. Self-driving cars have run nearly two million miles on public roads. Drones have gotten smart enough to avoid hitting things. And two-legged, walking robots are suddenly real.
Now some world-famous people- including Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk—are speaking out about the dangers of those increasingly smart machines. “Full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race,” Hawking has said.
The worry is that once AI gets smart enough, it will be able to improve its own software over and over again, every hour or minute. It will quickly become much smarter than humans. “ It could be wonderful, or it could be pretty bad,” Tegmark, a professor from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, says. In July, Tegmark’s group published an open letter expressing alarm at the rising threat of AI.
In the future, robots will likely take even more of our jobs. The first to go, of course, will be the ones that are the most easily automated, such as store clerks and tax preparer. “If you teach kindergarten, you’ll get to keep your job a lot longer,” Tegmark says.
The message, in the end, is not that AI will spell the end of the world but that we should keep pace with the rapid developments in AI itself. “ AI also has huge positive aspects –potential to cure all diseases and to help life spread into the space—if we get it right,”Tegmark says.
32. Why does the author feel disappointed in robots?
A. They are terrible beyond description.
B. They are not as advanced as in movies.
C. They are mainly used as production-line arms.
D. They are not smart enough to improve themselves.
33. How does the author feel about the rapid development of AI?
A. Amazed. B. Pleased. C. Worried. D. Puzzled.
34. What can we learn about the robots in the future?
A. They will cure rare diseases.
B. They will threaten humans’ safety
C .They will replace humans in many jobs.
D. They will turn our home into a smart space.
35. What may be the best title for the text?
A. Future jobs in the world of AI.
B. Let’s prepare for the coming of AI.
C. AI presents a threat to human beings
D. The advantages and disadvantages of AI.

People with social phobia(社交恐惧症) can learn to manage fear, develop confidence and coping skills, and stop avoiding things that make them anxious. 36 Overcoming social phobia means having the courage it takes to go beyond what’s comfortable, little by little.
Here are those who can support and guide people in overcoming social phobia:
Therapists (治疗专家)can help people recognize the physical sensations and teach them to interpret these sensations more accurately. They can help people create a plan for facing social fears. 37 This includes practicing new behaviors.
Family or friends are especially important for people who are dealing with social phobia. Lectures, criticisms, and demands to change don’t help—and just make a person feel bad. Instead, friends and family can encourage people with social phobia to have a small goal to aim for , remind them to go for it, and be there when they might feel discouraged. 38
Dealing with social phobia takes patience and courage to face fears and try new things, and the willingness to practice. 39 Little by little, someone who decides to deal with extreme shyness can learn to be more comfortable. Each small step forward helps build enough confidence to take the next small step.
40. Pretty soon, the person is thinking less about what might feel uncomfortable and more about what might be fun.
A. But it’s not always easy.
B. This makes a situation seem much worse.
C. They can also help people build the skills and confidence to do it.
D. Only by his or her own effort can someone overcome social phobia.
E. As shyness and fears begin to melt, confidence and positive feelings build.
F. It takes a commitment to go forward rather than back away when feeling shy.
G. Good friends and family are there to celebrate each small success along the way.
