Last month, the ice cap had reached its smallest size since scientists began keeping record of it 38 years ago. The weather in the Arctic has been unusually warm this winter. Some days, temperatures have been 20 degrees Celsius higher than before at this time of year. With less ice, the Arctic would warm up even more quickly, and more ice would melt (融化). Without sea ice, many animals would lose their natural homes. Dr. Steven Desch and a group of scientists from Arizona State University in the United States think they can help to build up Arctic sea ice again. They want to fix wind- powered pump(抽水机) on the sea ice. During the winter, the pumps would spread water from the ocean over the surface of the ice where it would freeze and form a new layer of ice. The scientists say that in 10 years, this could add a metre of ice to the ice cap. (The Arctic ice cap is about two to three metres thick right now.) The plan would require about 10 million pumps and it would be very expensive—about $655 billion. Some other scientists are wondering if the pumps would actually work in cold Arctic conditions. They are also worried about how the project might affect the environment. Dr. Desch and his team hoped their plan would get more people interested in looking for a solution to the problem of melting sea ice. He said the only plan people have right now is to try to cut greenhouse gas emissions (温室气体排放) from cars and other man-made sources. He and his team don’t think that will be enough to save the sea ice, but hope it will get everyone moving in the right direction. 25. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A. The changes of Arctic weather. ‎ ‎ B. The history of the Arctic ice cap. C. The influence of the weather on the Arctic. D. The importance of sea ice to Arctic animals. 26. How will the scientists’ plan help the Arctic? A. By thickening the Arctic ice. B. By cutting pollution in the Arctic. C. By pumping sea water to the land. D. By making the Arctic attractive to wildlife.‎ 27. What is the attitude of scientists mentioned in Paragraph 5 to the plan?‎ A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Surprised.‎ ‎28. What do Dr. Desch and his team think of their plan? A. It will surely work B. It needs discussing. C. It is better than the present method. D. It will encourage others to take steps.‎ C I was living in South Korea a few years back when I had to leave the country and return again because of visa restrictions(签证限制). My destination(the place someone is going to) was the town of Fukuoka, in Japan.‎ I had plenty of money in Korean currency (货币) which I planned to exchange into Japanese currency in order to get me through the evening. Little did I know, however, that it was a bank holiday (a public holiday when shops businesses and banks are closed) in Japan and there was nowhere to change my money. With no local money, I had little choice but to walk from the airport towards the town while trying to work out what to do. Some hours and a few closed banks later, I heard two young Europeans talking in French, and with nothing to lose, I asked them if they could speak any English. They could. They were students from Belgium, and, after hearing my predicament, offered to put off meeting their friends to take me around the city in search of a currency exchange. They paid for my bus tickets and took me around several places before finally finding me a hotel that would change my money.‎ I offered them their money back and some more for food on their night out. They refused and insisted that they wanted nothing for the tickets, adding that I should join them and their friends if I wanted to buy them some snacks. ‎ ‎ Hours later, after a fantastic night out, they ordered me a taxi and helped me on my way. Their kindness still moves me and inspires me to help others whenever I can. 29. Where did the story happen? A. In Japan. B. In Belgium. C. In France. D. In South Korea. 30. How did the author feel before meeting the students? A. He felt relaxed. B. He was worried about his safety. C. He was excited by the holiday. D. He felt helpless. 31. What does the underlined word “predicament” In Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. A new plan. B. A funny joke. C. A difficult situation. D. A complete report. 32. What did the author do that night? A. He talked with some young Frenchmen. B. He went out with two Belgian students. C. He spent the night alone in a local hotel. D. He watched a movie with some old friends.‎ D French children 15 and under will no longer be allowed to bring smart devices (设备) to school. Lawmakers in France passed a law on July 31 banning(禁止) cell phones, tablets, and. other Internet-connected devices from school grounds. The ban will start soon. “These days, the children don’t play at break time anymore,” Jean Michel Blanquer said, according to The Telegraph. He is France’s education minister. “They are just all in front of their smartphones, and from an educational point of view, that’s a problem.” A 2010 law had already banned smartphones during “all teaching activity” in France. But the new rules say smartphones and tablets are not allowed even during breaks. Students who bring these devices to school have to keep them in their backpacks, turned off. The law makes an exception for disabled students. It also allows students to use devices during extracurricular (课外的) activities. Not everyone supports the ban. Alexis Corbiere is a French politician. He said it was pointless to make such a law because teachers had already enforced(执行) the rules. “I don’t know a single teacher in this country that allows the use of phones in class.” he told French news channel BFMTV. In the United States, smartphones seem to be making a comeback in schools. That’‎ s according to a study by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). About 66% of public schools banned devices in 2015. That was down from 91% in 2009. Why the change? Liz Kolb, a professor at the University of Michigan School of Education, said that parents are worried about safety in schools.“In the rare case that something may happen,” she said, “the belief by some parents is that a cell phone could be a useful tool for safety.” 33. What did Jean-Michel think was a problem? A. Smart devices are not properly used in education. B. Students spend too much time on smart devices. C. Smart devices are not allowed in school. D. Students’ break time is not long enough. 34. How are the new rules different from the 2010 law? A. Smart devices are banned even during breaks. B. Smart devices are not allowed during after-school activities. C. Students can’t bring smart devices to school. D. Students with disabilities are also banned from using smart devices. 35. In which way did Alexis Corbiere think the ban was pointless? A. Smartphones were helpful for students’ learning. B. Other countries had given up similar laws. C. Teachers could solve the problem themselves. D. Students’ safety couldn’t be ensured. 36. What did the NCES study show in the United States? A. Smartphones were banned by almost all schools in 2015.‎ B. Numbers of schools that ban smartphones keep increasing. C. Teachers have changed their attitude to using smartphones. D. Devices were more acceptable in schools in 2015 than in 2009.‎ 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Many people like drinking bottled water. But all those plastic bottles pollute the environment. Americans buy a lot of bottled water. In order to make all these bottles, producers use 17 million barrels of oil. 37 ‎ ‎ Imagine a water bottle filled a quarter of the way up with oil. That’s about how much oil was needed to produce the bottle. So why don’t people drink water straight from the faucet (水龙头)? 38 But that is not true. In the United States, governments make sure water from the faucet is safe. There is also growing concern that the bottles are not good for health.‎ ‎ People love the convenience of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home instead of plastic.‎ ‎ 39 Those recycled plastic bottles can be turned into things like carpeting(地毯) or clothing. ‎ Unluckily, for every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin (箱). 40 Or, even worse, they end up as rubbish on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean.‎ Water is good for you, so keep drinking it. But think about how often you use water bottles, and see if you can make a change.‎ ‎ 41 Remember this: Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb (灯泡) for six hours.‎ A. Plastic bottle recycling can help.‎ B. And yes, you can make a difference.‎ C. You may buy a case or two of bottled water.‎ D. Americans use 29 billion water bottles a year.‎ E. The rest are sent to landfills where waste is buried.‎ F. That's enough oil to keep a million cars going for twelve months.‎ G. People drink bottled water because they think it's better than water out of the faucet.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分30分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每题1分,满分15分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ A chalkboard wall that recently got national attention for asking people to finish the thought “I wish I had the courage to…” is coming down.
