Prom(高中毕业舞会)is a day you’ll never forget. It’s one of the most important events of your senior year, one you certainly don’t want to miss.
About a month before prom, I started my countdown(倒计时). It took me about a week to find my dress. I bought it secondhand(二手的), but it was the most beautiful dress I’d ever seen—not too fancy, just the look I wanted. My shoes were bought from Wal-Mart. It might not seem the best place for shoes, but they were so comfortable that I couldn’t wait to dance all night long in them. My cousin Melissa did my hair and make-up. I received so many compliments(恭维)at prom about my hair and make-up and I felt grateful to her.
I had much fun with a group of friends. We danced for four hours and I felt as if my feet were going to fall off. After that came the dessert buffet(自助餐). There were four to five tables filled with sweets. I only had a piece of chocolate cheesecake and this little cup of strawberry dessert, but both were to die for(极想得到的).
By the time the casino(老虎机)and magician(魔术师) arrived, everyone was super tired. I wanted to sleep, but I went out into the hall with friends and took pictures. At around 6:30 am, we headed into the breakfast hall for breakfast and goodbyes. Although it wasn’t the last time we would be seeing each other, it felt as if we were leaving behind so much.
Prom is going to be one of the best times in your life. Don’t think of it as a dance. Think of it as a life-changing moment. I know it was for me.

A. plans for the prom B. decision(决定) to attend the prom

People in the United States honor(纪念) their parents with two special days:Mother’s Day, on the second Sunday in May, and Father’s Day, on the third Sunday in June. These days are set aside to show love and respect for parents. They raise(养育) their children and educate them to be responsible(有责任感的) citizens. They give love and care. These two days make us think about the changing roles of mothers and fathers. More mothers now work outside the home. More fathers must help with child care.
These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother’s Day people wear carnations(康乃馨). A red one symbolizes a living mother. A white one shows that the mother is dead. Many people attend religious services to honor parents. It is also a day when people whose parents are dead visit the cemetery(墓地).On these days families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor barbecues(烧烤) for Father’s Day. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories.
Another tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are valued(值得的) more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”. Greeting card stores, florists, candy makers, bakeries, telephone companies, and other stores do a lot of business during these holidays.
25.Which of the following is NOT a reason for children to show love and respect for parents?
A. Parents bring up children.
B. Parents give love and care to children.
C. Parents educate children to be good persons.
D. Parents pass away before children grow up.
26.What do you think “florists” do?
A. They sell flowers.
B. They make and sell bread.
C. They offer enough room for having family parties.
D. They sell special gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
27.Which do you think is right about “carnation”?
A. It has only two kinds of colors.
B. It refers to the special clothes people wear on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.
C. It’s a kind of flower showing love and best wishes.
D. People can wear carnations only on the second Sunday in May.
28.What do you know from the passage?
A. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are both in May.
B. Fewer women worked outside the home in the past.
C. Not all the children respect their parents
D. Fathers are not as important as mothers at home.

My students often tell me they don’t have “enough time” to do all their schoolwork. My reply is often brief—You have as much time as the president. I usually say that there being 24 hours in the day for everyone, and suggest that “not enough time” is not an acceptable explanation(解释) of not getting something done.
Once in graduate school, I tried to excuse myself to one of my professors by saying that I was working hard. His answer to me was, “That’s irrelevant. What’s important is the quality(质量) of your work.” Since then I have had time to think about the “hard worker” dodge (伎俩), and I have come to some conclusions(结论) — all relevant to the problem of how much time we have.
If you analyze(分析) the matter, you can identify(确定) two parts of the problem: There is, of course, the matter of “time”, which we can think of as fixed. Then there is the problem of “work” during that time. But, as my professor suggested, it’s not how hard one works but the quality of the product that is important.
Then I have a new idea: the quality of the work. That idea is perhaps best explained by a sign I once saw on the wall in someone’s office---Don’t work harder but work smarter. There’s a lot of sense in that idea.
If you can’t get more time, and few of us can, the only solution(解决方法) is to improve(提高) the quality of the work. That means thinking of ways to get more out of the same time than we might otherwise(在其他方面) get. That should lead us to an analysis of our work habits. Since “work” for students usually means “homework”, the expression “work habits” should be read as “study habits”.
Then, as a smart student, you will try to improve those skills that you use in study, firstly reading and writing. If you learn to read better and write better, there are big benefits that pay off(取得成功) in all your studies.
33.From the passage, we know that the author is ______ .
A. a worker B. a student C. an educator D. an doctor
34.What is the meaning of the italic(斜字体)sentence? .
A. to have more time B. to be smart and hard working
C. to improve the quality of the work D.to work harder
35.The main purpose(主旨) of writing the passage is to give_______.
A. advice B. encouragementC. criticism D. information

Writing text messages while walking is dangerous. A study says it is more dangerous than texting while driving. Researchers(研究人员) found that there are more61 (injury) to texting pedestrians(行人)than there are to texting motorists(汽车司机). Their report says walking is not as easy62 we think. We must focus on many things at the same time to walk safely in a straight line(直线). The researchers said that people forget how to walk 63 (safe), so dangerous things happen to them. They bump(撞) into walls and other people. They walk into cars, fall over things in the street, 64 even fall into holes.
A professor said walking is a difficult action. There are several reasons65texting makes walking dangerous. 66is that people cannot see the street. Another is that they focus on their phone screen(屏幕) instead of their feet. A final reason is that their minds are somewhere else—they are not thinking about 67(walk) from A to B safely. The professor said over 6,000 people68(visit) his hospital last year because of texting. He said69worst cases are head injuries. When a pedestrian is tossed into the air he/she has nothing70(protect) the head. The damage can be serious.

Failure is common in our life. No one can avoid them. When we fail to do something, we often feel very depressing. Sometimes failure can make us lose hearts. So no one are willing to fail. On a contrary, success can bring us a sense of pride. If one enjoys his continuous success in his career, he will have confidence to himself. Therefore, failure is the mother of success. A failure

第一节 写作
Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you something about the discussion on whether it is necessary for senior one students to take the one-week military training. Different students hold different attitudes to it/Students’ views on it vary from person to person.
Some hold that it is necessary. On one hand, it can improve student’s teamwork spirit , which will play an important part in their life and study. On the other hand, there is no doubt that they become stronger physically and mentally through the training.
However, the others have opposite views. They think it is a waste of time. Besides, students get burnt easily without any protection in the sun.
As far as I’m concerned, though we may feel tired during the training , it goes without saying that the one-week military training is meaningful.
英语听力原文
Text 1
M: Oops…I’m sorry, Mom, I broke another plate. (1) I should probably let you finish.
W: No, you go ahead. I got those dishes at a garage sale. Just be more careful!
Text 2
M: Elvis Presley was super famous in the mid-fifties, but why do people always say “Elvis has left the building”?
W: That’s an old saying. It just reminds people that Elvis is gone but not forgotten. He died in 1977. Did you know he was only 42 when he died? (2)
Text 3
W: I just read a newspaper article about a man who traveled around the world on $20 a day. He traveled mostly by bus and train.
M: Wow, that’s amazing! I would love to do something like that one day. (3)
Text 4
M: Thanks for the cookie, Grandma. Did you bake these?
W: Yes, I did! I baked them a couple of weeks ago. They soften up if you put them in some milk. Hey, why did you spit it out?
M: It’s as hard as a rock! I think I broke my tooth! (4)
Text 5 (总结题)
W: Those birds love my yard. See? They are probably looking for worms.
M: Yeah, they are lucky they can find meals in lots of places. We have to go to the grocery store to buy our food.
W: True, but I wouldn’t want to eat what they do, even if it’s free.
Text 6
M: Marissa, if your papers continue to be late, I will have to give you a failing grade for the course. (6)
W: I’m sorry! (7) I’ve been having a really hard semester.
M: You need to try a little harder, okay?
W: I know, I will. There’s just been a lot going on lately. I’m moving out of my house, and my brother is in the hospital.
M: I’m sorry to hear that, but this is the 7th paper you’ve turned in late.
W: I promise I’ll get the next one in on time. Just please don’t fail me. (7)
M: I’ll give you one more chance, but just one. Don’t let me down.
Text 7
M: The hike will last for 2 hours. (8) We’ll start at sea level and then climb up a few hills. Are you ready?
W: I sure am. The one-hour yoga class this morning really made me full of energy. I’m feeling so good. I bet I can race you up those hills.
M: That won’t be necessary. We want to take our time to enjoy the sights along the way. We’ll point out certain plants, some of the insects, and watch out for possible snakes.
W: Snakes? Uh, I definitely will be racing you up the hill! (9)
M: Not to worry. (9) Nature is a wonderful thing. We are all meant to enjoy it together — snakes, spiders, trees, and us humans.
Text 8
M: The Bacon Bacon food truck is down the street. I’m going to get lunch. Can I get you something?
W: I was wondering why I was so hungry. I skipped breakfast. I have been working straight since I got here to work at 8:00 a.m. (11) I even didn’t have time to drink my morning coffee. A big juicy bacon burger would be awesome.
M: I always get a burger. (10) Today, I’m going to try their grilled cheese sandwich. I hear it has three different kinds of cheese, bacon, and bacon jam.
W: Jam made out of bacon? Wow. I’d buy a big jar of that bacon jam right now if they have it!
M: They might. Okay, I’ll go down and pick up lunch for you and me.
W: No, wait. I need a break, and I need to make sure I can buy that jam.

Text 9

W: OK, stop talking! We’ve got to make our reservations!
M: Well, hang on a second. You don’t really like Indian food.
W: But I thought they offer other choices besides Indian food…
M: Maybe. Also, this part of India is pretty quiet. There’s no shopping or clubbing. People go there to relax. (15)
W: That’s OK. I can go shopping anywhere.
M: The rooms start at $350 per night, and those suites are $750 per night. (16)
W: Whoa! I thought India was supposed to be inexpensive! (16)

But showers and thunderstorms are happening from the Ohio River all the way south to the Gulf coast, pouring down heavy amounts of rain over the Southern states. (17) By far the worst of the storms has happened in and around Texas. Some Texas stations have reported up to fifteen inches of rain in a 24-hour period with high winds and thunderstorms. (18) Two typhoons were reported along the Gulf coast of Texas, but we haven’t got the exact information about any damage or injuries. Heavy amounts of snow were reported in the Rocky Mountain area with record cold temperatures in Denver and Boulder. As much as a foot of snow has fallen in some of the mountain stations. In contrast, temperatures in Arizona and the desert Southwest went over the 100-degree mark again under bright, sunny skies. (19)
