In 2015, Professor Wang Zhenyi, who specializes in treating acute promyelocytic
leukemia (APL)(急性早幼粒细胞白血病), received a letter of thanks from America. The
writer of the letter was Mrs. Berna-dette Giandomenico, who once suffered from APL but was
cured with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA)(全反式维甲酸), a treatment developed by Wang
and his medical team.
Working at Ruijin Hospital, Wang has been devoting his life to the treatment of leukemia.
He received the country's highest honor in science and technology in 2010.
Born in 1924 in Shanghai, Wang was inspired by a family friend's experience of pursuing
a career in medicine as a child. His grandmother's death caused by typhoid (伤寒) further
strengthened his resolve to fight against diseases and rescue patients. With outstanding
academic performance, Wang became a doctor at Guangci Hospital, today's Ruijin Hospital.
In 1978, a research paper from Israeli experts gave Wang inspiration on studying how
leukemia cells could become normal. His research didn't progress as expected, though. In
1983, another research paper shed light on his study. As the paper suggested, after being
treated with 13-cis-retinoic acid, white blood cells in patients with APL could become normal.
Considering the difficulties and high cost of producing a drug made from 13-cis-retinoic acid,
Wang's team decided to replace that ingredient with ATRA, and they finally verified its
positive effect after several months' experiments. In 1986, the drug was first adopted in
treating a five-year-old patient. It turned out successful. After eight years of research, Wang's
team eventually made the first breakthrough in the battle against APL.
To make sure every APL patient could afford the medicine, Wang has not patented his
research result to date. "One cannot be a real doctor if one does not have expertise in
medicine," Wang said in an interview. "However, without a kind heart, a skilled doctor may
cause harm to patients."
Having worked in the field of hematopathology(血液病理学) for over 70 years, Wang
has been well recognized for his remarkable contribution to saving lives.
6
24.Why did Mrs. Giandomenico write a letter to Professor Wang?
A. To ask for medical suggestions.
B. To share her battle against APL.
C. To express her appreciation.
D. To update information about her treatment.
25.What increased Wang’s determination to become a doctor?
A. His grandmother’s death. B. His great academic achievement.
C. The inspiration from foreign experts. D. The example of a family friend.
26.What does the underlined word “verified” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. denied B. assessed C. predicted D.confirmed
27.What is the best title for the text?
A. The application of ATRA B. A doctor with the human touch
C. The Chinese cure for APL patients D. A lifesaver with remarkable honor

The seal feels perfectly safe lying on the Antarctic ice even if it is surrounded by a pod of
killer whales. But within minutes it has been knocked into the water in a clever team tactic
( 战 术 ) before being killed. These astonishing pictures show how the sea predators work
together—and the technique provides meals for killer whales three out of every four times
they use it, according to scientists.
Research has also found that the mammals—around 26ft in length and weighing more
than six tons—carefully kill the prey underwater,co-operating as they skin and dissect(解剖)
the seals. Dr Robert Pitman , a marine scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration in California, took the shocking images of the pod going in for the kill. He
said, “The killer whales were very good at knowing in advance if they were going to be able
to wash a seal off a floe(大浮冰)and they were always successful in getting the seal into the
water. A couple of times the seal was washed off but managed to escape in the confusion, but
not very often. From killer whale studies elsewhere we expected this kind of social interaction
but it was the canniness(精明)of their hunting tactics that blew us away.”
Dr Pitman and his colleague Dr John Durban helped a BBC film crew capture their
7
behaviour for the TV documentary series Frozen Planet, to be shown later this month. They
spent weeks tracking and recording the hunting behaviour in the pack ice off the coast of the
Antarctica Peninsula. The whales prefer Weddell seals, which can be up to 11 feet long, rather
than the more aggressive crabeater and leopard seals. Dr Pitman told the Sunday Telegraph
that the whales deal with seals who try to hide among the ice after being knocked into the sea
by creating shock waves with their tails to knock them out into the open water.
He said, “The whales also blew streams of bubbles under the seals apparently trying to
get them into open water where they wouldn't have a chance against the waiting killer
whales.”
28. Which of the following is true about the killer whales' hunting tactic?
A. They kill the whale before knocking it into water.
B. They use the tactic three or four times before succeeding.
C. They make astonishing shows to have other sea predators work together.
D. They manage to earn their meals with the tactic in most cases.
29. As is mentioned in the passage, Robert Pitman______________.
A. worked as a reporter at BBC
B. filmed Frozen Planet all by himself
C. followed and recorded the killer whales for weeks
D. conducted studies on killer whales elsewhere in advance
30. From Pitman's study we know that killer whales____________.
A. use their skin to interact
B. are normally 11 feet long
C. often have seals run away in the open water
D. take advantage of bubbles when hunting
31. What's the main idea of the passage?
A. A TV documentary series on seals. B. The canny team tactics of killer whales.
C. Dr Robert Pitman's latest study. D.The special living habits of killer whales.

In ancient times, our ancestors relied on stars to guide them on a clear night. Today, we

have navigational systems to help us find our way, with the latest being the Beidou
Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
The BDS is entirely built by Chinese engineers. With the launch of the last satellite from
the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on June 23, the global network of 59 satellites has been
completed. On July 31, Beidou started providing full-scale global services. It’s difficult to
imagine the dramatic impact those satellites, orbiting (绕…运转) the Earth, have on our daily
lives.
When you unlock one of Hellobike’s bicycles, you are using the BDS. The popular
bike-sharing company came out with two new bike models this year that are equipped with
the positioning service. “The intelligent lock on each bike receives Beidou satellite signals
and sends positioning information to the data center, which will help collect big data on the
bikes and estimate users’ riding demands in advance according to the data,” Chu Yiqun, a
manager of Hellobike told Xinhua News Agency. Users can also find shared bikes more
accurately thanks to Beidou’s global positioning accuracy of 2.34 meters.
However, the BDS doesn’t just work one way. As the country’s largest space-based
system and one of four global navigation networks, along with the United States’ GPS,
Russia’s GLONASS and the European Union’s Galileo, Beidou adopts a unique two-way
communication system, including its ability to receive messages sent by people from areas
with poor communication signals. Obviously, this exclusive function isn’t designed for users
to chat online. Instead, it plays a role when disasters occur and communications are blocked.
After the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, all ground-based communication facilities were
interrupted. Though the first generation of Beidou could only send 120 characters in a single
message at that time, communication between affected areas and rescue centers was
successful. Now, Beidou’s messaging capacity has been increased to 1,200 Chinese characters
in a single message. It is widely used in disaster alarms, automatic identification and
information release.
As Sun Jiadong, former chief designer of the BDS said: “The application of Beidou is
merely limited by imagination.”
32. What can we know about Beidou from the passage?
A. It’s able to provide worldwide coverage for navigation.
9
B. Its last satellite was launched in Xichang on July 31.
C. It’s one of the five global navigation networks.
D. It’s jointly developed by Chinese and foreign engineers.
33. Why is Hellobike mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To present the benefits and limitations of the BDS.
B. To highlight the high positioning accuracy of the BDS.
C. To show how the BDS makes people’s daily lives easier.
D. To explain the unique way in which the BDS works.
34. What is the function of Beidou’s two-way communication system?
A. To collect instant feedback sent by global users.
B. To allow users to chat online more conveniently.
C. To make communication more fun and efficient.
D. To help people when communication signals are weak.
35. What do Sun Jiadong’s words in the last paragraph imply?
A. Beidou stimulates users’ imagination.
B. Beidou may be more helpful than we know.
C. Beidou is currently limited in application.
D . Beidou needs to be further perfected.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项
为多余选项。
One of the most fundamental changes brought about in the last decade is the rise of
remote learning. With the global climate crisis and health pandemics, remote learning has
become even more relevant today. Schools, universities and corporates can continue affording
education and training by remote technology in the time of social distancing due to the
COVID-19 crisis. 36
Learn Anywhere, Anytime
Gone is the need to be on campus at a specific time of day and remain there for the
duration of numerous classes. 37 More importantly, it has also made learning a practical
10
choice for many rural communities who are unable to travel the vast distances to school every
day and to remote teams working for companies located afar.
38
When it comes to learning, one size doesn’t fit all. People have varied learning styles that
change depending on the nature of the content they are trying to absorb. E-Learning allows
learners to personalize their education, focusing on areas that need greater attention in more
detail. Also, rather than being a one-way path where the learner listens and takes in
information, online training means that learners can pursue areas that interest them in more
detail.
Better Engagement
Keeping learners engaged throughout the training is one of the key struggles. One of the
strengths of E-Learning is the diverse nature in which the course content is delivered. 39
Some online learning communities allow trainers to provide multimedia recording to make
training more engaging. With the game engine, they also have the option to gamify content
and include rewards once sections are completed for young employees and fresh graduates
who might have just passed out from school and are still transitioning to the corporate world.
40
A. Nearly 30 percent of learners, or more than six million students, having taken at least one
course online.
B. Learn more in detail
C. E-Learning gives people the flexibility to be able to learn at home, anytime they want.
D. Personalized Learning Experience
E. Quizzes, polls(投票), and discussion boards also mean trainees get to discuss content and
interact with one another.
F. Learners are now used to and expect interactivity.
G. Overall, there are a few core reasons to opt (选择) for remote learning.

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Now, parents and students separate into two groups. You will be reunited at the end of
the campus tour. ”
Groups of incoming freshmen happily left their parents upon hearing this announcement.
I was less than thrilled about starting college, let alone leaving my mother's side to tour the
campus with other freshmen; I felt a little anxious.
We followed the senior tour guide. The other freshmen chatted and made casual
introductions as I dragged behind. How could I have believed I was ready for this? After all, it
had only been a few months since I left the hospital. I was feeling better for the first time in
years. But college…?
My thinking was interrupted by a sweet female voice, "Hi, I'm Jennifer. " "I'm Lauren, "I
replied." Where do you prefer to live? At home or on campus? " she smiled. "I'm not sure, "I
said. "You should live on campus! It will be a lot of fun!" she said. Before I could reply, the
tour guide announced it was time to create our schedules and select the courses we wanted to
take.
We crowded into the Student Activity Center. Three seniors handed out thick course
bulletins (课程公告)and forms that needed to be filled out. All around me, the sounds of
turning papers and writing sounded like those given by an alarm clock. Others seemed to be
moving through the process quickly but I hadn't even opened my course catalog(目录).
"Focus, " I told myself. "Just read through the catalog and find the courses you like and a
schedule that works. " Psychology A or B, Geology 101, English, History, sections 1, 2, 3. . .
The list went on and on.
I panicked and almost started to cry. How was I supposed to know how to complete it? I
was just relearning how to live in the real world, and they wanted me to make a schedule.
How I wished someone could help me.

Soon, other freshmen were handing in their forms. Many of them rushed out to meet their
parents. I couldn’t breathe and was feeling anxious. My head was pounding. Moments later, I
was crying. And several students started to stare at me. One of the seniors in charge walked
over to my table. “What’s the matter?” she asked impatiently. “I... I can’t do this!” I said. “All
you have to do is make your schedule, just like everybody else,” she said, clearly annoyed.
Then, I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. I looked back and found Jennifer standing
behind me. “Everything is alright,” she told the senior. “I’ll help her.” The senior walked
away. “What’s wrong, sweetie?” Jennifer asked. Hearing Jennifer’s kind words, I cried even
harder, saying, “It’s just too much!” Then Jennifer put her arm around me and said, “Let me
instruct you.” She then guided me through the process step by step until I completed my
schedule. Later, when saying goodbye, we made a promise to keep in touch.

W: No problem. I happen to be going in that direction.

W: Harry, why are you still checking the job pages of the local newspaper? (2) I thought you
already had too many offers to choose from. People usually like to read the news and
sports sections.
M: Well, I have...but there’s no harm in looking, is there?
Text 3
M: Could you just hold the doors, please? I’m headed down to the basement, and my friend
will be here in a minute.
W: We’re going up, actually. You should wait for the next one going down. Just press the
button on the wall. (3)
★ be headed:朝(某方向)行进
I’m headed down to the basement. 我要去地下室。
Text 4
M: Thanks for helping set up for the dinner party. But you’re supposed to put the knives on
17
the other side of the plate. And the spoon goes next to the knife. (4)
W: Oh, sorry. I forgot that most people use a knife with their right hand.
Text 5
W: I’m so disappointed in my mark on my term paper. I think our teachers are too strict. How
can I keep my average now?
M: It’s so stressful. We have so many subjects and we have to do well on all of them to get
into a good school. (5)
Text 6
W: The fish you made tonight was absolutely delicious. (6) Did you get it at the grocery store?
M: A friend of mine took me out on his boat and we caught them ourselves. (6)
W: I usually get mine from the fish market in the village.
M: Are you interested in some apple pie?
W: Thank you, but I’m full. I’ll just have a cup of coffee. (7)
M: Are you sure? It’s my mother’s secret recipe. Just add a little bit of ice cream, and you will
be in heaven.
W: That does sound good, but I don’t think I could eat any more.
M: Suit yourself.
Text 7
M: Excuse me? That’s my seat. Sorry to make you have to get up.
W: Oh, it’s no problem. That’s what I get for requesting the aisle seat.
M: So, you’re the person who took my aisle seat! I’m just kidding. My name is Robert. It’s
nice to meet you.
W: You too. I’m Sheryl. So, are you going to Atlanta for business or vacation? (8)
M: I’ve got a connecting flight to Orlando, actually. My best friend is getting married. (9)
W: How nice! Are you from here?
M: Yeah. My parents moved here from New York before I was born. Now I live with them.
What about you?
W: I come here a few times a year on business. New York is a great city, though. I lived there
when I was younger.
M: Oh, it looks like we’re about to take off. I’d better fasten my seat belt… (10)

Text 8 (第 11 题为推断题)
W: Thank you for coming on such short notice. None of my friends could help.
M: No problem. Now, what can I do for you?
W: Well, my car won’t start. I looked at the engine, but I don’t know anything about cars.
M: That’s okay. Let’s get you off the side of the road so you don’t get hit by a car. Can you
turn the car on for me?
W: See? Nothing happens. Can you fix it, or should I take it to a repair shop?
M: Ah…okay…I know what this is. It’s the battery. (12) Let me get something from my
truck.
W: So, it was my battery the whole time? Does that mean I won’t have to call a taxi? How can
I repay you?
M: The cost was included in the service package when you bought your car.
W: So, the next time I get a flat tire, can I call you?
18
M: Hopefully, there won’t be a need for that. You’re all set, ma’am. Drive safe. (13)

Text 9 (第 16 题为推断题)
M: It’s that time of year again. We should go get our flu shots. (14) You don’t want to end up
in the hospital again like last year.
W: You’re right. Should we just walk into the nearest clinic, or do we have to make an
appointment first?
M: There’s a drug store in the mall that is quick and easy. (14) They have a small room set up
for shots. We need to do some Christmas shopping, anyway.
W: Let’s go over the list, then. We got your parents the cooking set and my parents the sofa
pillows. I got my sister some clothes… (15)
M: I am getting my brother those headphones he wanted. The next thing we have to think
about is the tree. Are we going to get a real one again, or just use the small one that we
keep in the basement?
W: Real ones are pretty messy. And I don’t want to spend money on another new tree. Let’s
just stick to the old one.
M: OK. That leaves the turkey. Who is coming to dinner, again?
W: My best friend Erin is coming.
M: My parents will have dinner with us.
W: All right. I’ll buy a 24-pound turkey.

Welcome to our annual student achievement awards. Here are our amazing award
winners! In February, our school won the Peacock Award at the State Art Competition. In
April, our basketball team won the league championships. It is the second year in a row that
our Pandas beat the Eagles, (17) our school’s toughest competitor. And just recently, our
drama class held their last performance of Beauty and the Beast. With those ticket sales, we
raised seven thousand dollars for the Children’s Hospital. (18) Great job, everyone! Now for
the award for Best Athlete. For the boys, John Jenkins, our basketball team captain. For the
girls, Molly Rice. She came in second place in the state ping-pong championships. For
outstanding achievement in science…Greg Anderson. He won $500 at the science fair by
building a remote-controlled airplane. Shannon Jackson won for excellence in English, for her
essay on women’s equality. (19) Please come up and collect your awards. Well, that’s it, folks.
Have a great summer! (20)
