One day, when I was going to check in at an airport, I noticed there was a big problem. The counter person was telling everyone that all the flights were canceled and they would not be able to fly. And it was suggested that a bus should be provided to take us to Seattle. Everyone was worried, as we only had an hour and a half to make the connecting flight, and the bus was not even at the airport yet.
Finally, the bus pulled up, and the driver said, “They just pulled me out of bed after an all-night shift (夜班), and they expected me to get you to Seattle in time to catch your flight. Good luck!”
Needless to say, everyone was in a really bad mood. I was loading my equipment into the bus and had slung (吊) my banjo over my back when the bus driver said, “What? Are you going to play that in my bus?” “Well, really did not plan on it.” I replied. “I was only kidding.” said the driver. But I started thinking about it, and I pulled out the banjo. A worried, angry woman said, “Well, what if I don’t like it?” “Then
tell me and I will stop.” I replied.
We drove off, and the tension (紧张) inside the bus was horrendous! Then I started playing the old standard Blue Skies. In a few minutes, I noticed everyone was singing along. I started to sing, too, and before long, the whole bus burst into song.
One song led to another, and everyone seemed to have a request. “Do you know You are My Sunshine?” Everyone laughed and sang, with food passed around the bus, and before long, the airport was in sight.
The bus driver called, “We made it! We never would have done it without the help of the banjo player.” Shouts of approval (赞成) rang through the bus. People exchanged addresses and invitations to visit, and a few exchanged hugs. The driver said to me, ‘This was the best ride I ever had. Thanks for your music.”
A few weeks later, my mailbox was filled with letters from my new friends. Their
letters reminded me of how, by reaching out with a song or a bit of friendship, you could turn a very tense situation into a peaceful experience—a magical, musical bus ride.

Sweetest Day is always the third Saturday in October. This holiday is much more important in some regions than others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities). It is a holiday that is gaining in popularity every year throughout the country.
Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose
helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.
Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, believing that the city’s orphans and shut-ins too often felt forgotten and neglected (忽略), thought of the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this through the distribution (分发) of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed these small remembrances on a Saturday in October. During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the poor was broadened to include everyone, and became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small remembrance. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country.

These ‘Heart-Healthy’ Food Are Actually Killing You
It’s normal to reach for anything on the grocery store shelf that is labeled “heart healthy”. Since heart disease is the No.1 killer among both men and women, it benefits all of us to eat better for our hearts. 36 You could be putting something into your body that you think is good for you—but it could actually be deadly.
Not sure what foods have cheated you into thinking they benefit this vital organ?
Here are three foods you should never buy again. Nonfat anything
Remember the health food craze of the‘90s when everything was “nonfat?” Well ,it might be one of the most misleading popularities of all time. The problem with taking the fat out of dairy products, like yogurt, is that the fat is replaced with artificial sweeteners and a bunch of fillers for flavor. 37 So we’d better stick to plain(原 味的) yogurt ,which is connected to good blood pressure and cholesterol(胆固醇).
Tea
This one might surprise you. Tea is supposed to be one of the healthiest things you can put into your body, right ? To be clear, most loose-leaf teas are good for you, but the bottled teas we typically reach for at the store are loaded with heart-harming materials. This variety of tea, Like Snapple, contains very little brewed tea(酿 造茶), but enough added sugar to be as bad for you as a soda. 38 .
Coffee
39 .On one hand ,the American Heart Association says that coffee is not directly
linked to coronary heart disease( 冠 心 病 ). There are, however, additions to
coffee-based drinks that can make them a health risk. Creamer, for example, is loaded with trans fat, which raises your cholesterol and your risk of a heart attack. 40 Or, switch to tea for your coffee.
A. Heart-Healthy food is considered to be beneficial to people’s health.
A. And all that will raise your blood sugar levels, putting you at a higher risk of heart disease.
B. Instead, try using milk instead of creamer in your morning cup of coffee.
C. Tea has many advantages over coffee.
D. The solution here is to stick to brewed tea, even if you prefer your tea on ice.
E. Coffee is quite controversial when it comes to talking about your heart health.

Dear Peter,
Reading your letter, I know you are in two minds about whether to apply for a job in the animal shelter or go on a trip abroad during the winter vacation. I am writing to share my advice with you.
I know the reason why you can’t make up your mind is that both things are what you have been dreaming of. Then why not do both? On the one hand, by working in the animal shelter, not only can you get close to lovely animals and make friends with them, but also you can earn some money, which can benefit your budget. On the other hand, travelling abroad, chances are that you will have a relaxing and romantic journey,
experiencing exotic cultures, meeting interesting people, and meanwhile,
broadening your horizons.
So the only thing to take into account now is how to arrange your time. And what are you waiting for? Just get down to making a good plan for it! To conclude, however you choose to spend your vacation, do enjoy yourself!
Best wishes.
Yours, Li Hua
