阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,B,C和D)中,选出最佳选项.

Dear Betty,
My roommate’s family wants me to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with them in their home. I accepted the invitation, and I’m excited about going, but I’m a little nervous about it, too. The social customs in my country are different from those here, so I’m a little worried about making mistakes.
13
Should I bring a gift, such as candy or flowers? Should I arrive on time or a little late? At the dinner table, how can I know which fork or knife to use? How can I let the family know that I’m thankful for their kindness?
Yours,
Knowing Nothing
Dear Knowing Nothing,
It’s a good idea to bring a gift when you go to a dinner party. Flowers are always welcome, or you can bring a bottle of wine if you know the family drink it.
You should arrive on time or five to ten minutes late. Don’t get there early. If you are going to be more than fifteen minutes late, you should call and tell them.
Try to relax at the dinner table. If you don’t know how to use the right fork, knife or spoon, just watch the other guests, and follow them. If you still have no idea of what to do, don’t be shy about asking the person next to you; it’s better to ask them than to be silently uncomfortable and nervous.
If you like the food, say so. Of course, you’ll thank the host and hostess for the meal and for their kindness. It’s also a good idea to send a card to thank them the day after.
Yours,
Betty

Our peers usually have a great influence on our lives. However, when it comes to learning valuable lessons about life, we learn much more from older people than our peers.
Unlike our peers, older people have a better understanding of life. 36 So we can learn more from their seasoned knowledge. Many of my friends spend little time on their lessons and they just use their time to have fun. However, my uncle has taught me that if I focus on (专注于) studying instead of playing all the time, my life will be more fulfilling (有成就的) later on. 37
Also, older people can point us in the right direction and away from the mistakes they have already made. If we simply follow our peers, we will often run into similar problems. 38 My brother tried out for the football team last year and did not make it. Many of his peers told him to give up on the sport forever. But my father helped him realize that giving up was not the answer. Then my brother practiced harder. 39 In the end, older people can help us make the right decisions when we are in difficulties.
40 Older people have more life experience, and they can give us excellent advice.
A. People who are your age are called peers.
B. That’s because they have already been through it.
C. In short, we learn more from older people than our peers.
D. It’s human nature to learn from other people in your age group.
E. However, we can avoid them if we listen and learn from our elders.
F. This year, not only did he make the team, but he was also the captain.
