Very few people look forward to and enjoy exams. That doesn't have to mean that you should be afraid of them, though. The following lips will help you get through that terrible exam period.
Here are eight steps to help you during exams:
First, make sure you know how much time you will have in the exam and how many questions there will be. Then you can divide your time among the questions to make sure they all get answered.
Second, when you're doing an exam that involves long answers, it is a good idea to leave some space at the end of the answer so that you can add any extra comments that might come to mind when you reread your paper.
Third, don't spend all of your time only on questions that you know answers to, because you will get a worse mark for answering some questions very well and some not at all.
Fourth, it is worth taking a little extra time to make sure that your handwriting is neat. The examiner will be able to read it! Try to avoid spelling mistakes too!
Fifth, the more prepared you are, the more likely you are to succeed.
Sixth, keep calm. If you feel yourself getting worried, take a deep breath.
Seventh, don't try to discuss the exam after you've finished it. If you've got different answers from your friends, there's no point in worrying about it.
Eighth, once an exam is over, just forget about it. There is nothing more you can do about it. The best thing you can do is to go home and prepare for the next one.

Arriving in Sydney on his own from India, my husband, Rashid, stayed in a hotel for a short time while looking for a house for me and our children.
During the first week of his stay, he went out one day to do some shopping. He came back in the late afternoon to discover that his suitcase was gone. He was extremely worried as the suitcase had all his important papers, including his passport.
He reported the case to the police and then sat there, lost and lonely in a strange city, thinking of the terrible troubles of getting all the paperwork organized again from a distant country while trying to settle down in a new one.
Late in the evening, the phone rang. It was a stranger. He was trying to pronounce my husband’s name and was asking him a lot of questions. Then he said they had found a pile of papers in their trash can(垃圾桶)that had been left out on the footpath.
My husband rushed to their home to find a kind family holding all his papers and documents. Their young daughter had gone to the trash can and found a pile of unfamiliar papers. Her parents had carefully sorted them out, although they had found mainly foreign addresses on most of the documents. At last they had seen a half-written letter in the pile in which my husband had given his new telephone number to a friend.
That family not only restored the important documents to us that day but also restored our faith and trust in people. We still remember their kindness and often send a warm wish.

It seems school children all over the world complain about their school food. Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said that she would prepare a packed lunch for her son if school dinners do not improve. So what do students of your age eat for lunch at school?
Japan
High schools have canteens(餐厅), which serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers and chips. Other children bring food from home such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles(泡菜) and vegetables.
Students take home a menu for the coming month containing notes on nutrition value. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food. The class with the fewest leftovers(剩饭) at the end of the month receives a prize.
United States
A typical menu from a US school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, lettuce and pickles, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances(定量) of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories.
Australia
Meat pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the nation pays more attention to children’s health, healthier foods have started to find their way onto school menus.
Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red-labelled(标签) foods, including pastries, chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green-labelled foods such as sushi, sandwiches, corn and watermelon, however, are available every day.
In some schools, students have a choice of up to 89 foods to choose from, including popcorn and rice.
South Africa
Most of South Africa’s schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 p.m. and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches.
Fast food and fried food sell the best among students, which has led to a rise in obesity among children. But as more people began to realize the fact that being too fat may cause different diseases, some schools in towns have led the way towards better nutrition(营养). Now students at these schools are provided with lunches of porridge(粥) with vegetables, such as cabbages, onions, beans, carrots and tomatoes.

Linda Eveans was my best friend—like the sister I never had. We did everything together: piano lesson, movies, swimming, horseback riding.
When I was 13, my family moved away, Linda and I kept in touch through letters, and we saw each other on special times- like my wedding and Linda’s. Soon we were busy with children and moving to new homes, and we wrote less often. One day a card that I sent came back, stamped “Address Unknown”. I had no idea about how to find Linda.
Over the years, I missed Linda very much, I wanted to share happiness of my children and then grandchildren, And I needed to share my sadness when my brother and then mother died, There was an empty place in my heart that only a friend like Linda could fill.
One day, I was reading a newspaper when I noticed a photo of a young woman who looked very much like Linda and whose last name was Wagman—Linda’s married name. “There must be thousands of Wagmans.” I thought, but I still wrote to her.
She called as soon as she got my letter, “Mrs, Tobin!” she said excitedly, “Linda Evans Wagman is my mother.” Minutes later I heard a voice that I recognized at once, even after 40 years. We laughed and cried and caught up on each other’s lives, Now the empty place in my heart is filled, And there’s one thing that Linda and I know for sure: we won’t lose each other again!
32. They didn’t often write to each other because they______.
A. got married B. had little time to do so
C. didn’t like writing letters D. could see each other on special times
33. There was an empty place in the writer’s heart because she_______.
A. was in trouble B. didn’t know Linda’s address
C. received the card that she sent D. didn’t have a friend like Linda to share her happiness and sadness
34. The writer was happy when she_____.
A. read the newspaper B. heard Linda’s voice on the phone
C. met a young woman who looked a lot like Linda D. wrote to the woman whose last name was Wangman
35. They haven’t kept in touch_______.
A. for about 40 years B. for about 27 years
C. since they got married D. since the writer’s family moved away
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中的两项为多余选项。
Getting into a quarrel(争吵) with a friend is very common. 36 . Sometimes it is because we
think we know better. Sometimes we say things we don’t really mean and we end up hurting the person we care about.
Life is short for everyone. 37 If you think your friend is really a good person, then it’s right to give that friend a second chance. Do forget these problems. Everyone should have a second chance, including you.
38 . Fights have both right and wrong sides but that really isn’t important. If you don’t want to lose your friend, forget your pride and apologize. Funny thing is that, the earlier you apologize to your friend, the more he feels what he did was wrong.
39 What matters is that you realize that true friends are hard to find, and you’re not willing to give up a beautiful friendship just because of an argument.
Often, people who fight become even better friends in the end. 40 . That’s because a true friend is someone whom you’ve believed in, whom you’ve shared all your secrets and dreams with, and whom you’ve learned to love. He or she can understand you and finally forgive you.
A. Good friends are never easy to lose.
B. But whoever apologizes first doesn’t really matter.
C. Fighting sometimes can’t help solve these problems.
D. We quarrel because we can’t reach an agreement.
E. Don’t just think you are the one to be apologized to first.
F. Apologizing is the most useful way to win a friend back.
G. We shouldn’t always pay attention to the problems we have with our friends.
