Artificial intelligence (AI) is practically everywhere today. There are so many
products out there which use AI. Some are being developed, some are already in use,
and some failed and are being improved, so it’s very difficult to name a few of them and
regard them as the best.
Vi
It is an AI personal trainer which is mainly concerned with fitness and coaching. It,
however, requires the use of bio-sensing earphones and other fitness tracking equipment
(设备)! It can play your favourite music while you work out and all you have to worry
about is the exercise you’re doing.
Deep Text
Do you ever wonder how an ad appears suddenly just when you are looking for
something similar? This is because of Deep Text. It uses real-time consumer (消费者)
information to produce data which in turn is used to target consumers. Thus, if you
search online for flight tickets from Bangalore to Delhi, it is very likely that an ad
relating to hotels in Delhi will soon follow.
Hello Egg
If you live alone and miss your mother because you always miss your breakfast or
don’t know what to eat for dinner, then Hello Egg is exactly what you are looking for. A
very healthy choice of the 2-minute noodles and oats, Hello Egg provides you with a
detailed weekly meal plan about the needs of your body. It is truly a modern
AI-powered home cooking tool for the young.
Wordsmith
You can put Mr. Smith into your Microsoft Excel using their free API, and let it
write up detailed analysis (分析) of the stories behind your numbers. It can produce
detailed reports on thousands of pages of spreadsheets (表格) in seconds.
21.What can we learn about Vi from the text?
A. It is an AI music player.
B. It is a bio-sensing earphone.
C. It doesn’t work without bio-sensing earphones.
D. It can produce data while you work out.
22. Which can help you improve cooking skill?
A. Hello Egg. B. Deep Text. C. Vi. D. Wordsmith.
23.What can Wordsmith do for us?
A. Produce a detailed report.
B. Book a ticket ahead of time.
C. Provide us with a detailed meal plan.
D. Offer us information on hotels for traveling.
B
A couple in their 60s has travelled 12,000 miles across 16 countries from Britain to
China — riding their bikes the entire way. Grandparents Peter and Chris stepped on the
long journey after deciding to “do something a bit different”. They traversed (横穿)
cities, deserts, mountains and everything in between across Europe, the Middle East and
the East Asia. The married couple of 37 years enjoyed themselves with delicious local
food and spent most nights inside a tiny tent put up wherever they could find shelter.
Peter, 66, said the moment when they finally had a look at the famous Great Wall
after a year and a half of cycling 30 miles a day was “really exciting”. At the end of
their journey, the special pair didn’t fly home but instead choose to book a cabin (舱)
inside a 400m-long container ship. The final part was a three-week voyage from
Singapore across the Indian Ocean and into the Mediterranean Sea before arriving at
Southampton.
“You never know what the day is going to bring. All you know is that you are
going to get on your bike and cycle. Every day is an adventure and every day is new.
Overall, the experience is absolutely unbelievable, ” Peter said.
Peter and Chris initially set out to cycle from Britain in January 2017 but were
forced home. They had cycled all the way to Hungary when Peter slipped on tiles and
broke his leg. After seven months of recovery, the couple set out again in Britain. They
finally arrived in China in November 2018.
Both Peter and Chris agreed that the best part of the entire trip was coming across
the kindness of strangers along the way, many of whom invited the couple for food and
drink. Chris, 64, said, “It was a wonderful experience, particularly wonderful because of
the amazing people we met along the way.”
24.What’s the couple’s purpose of taking the long journey?
A.To try something new.
B. To break the world record.
C. To go across 16 countries by bike.
D. To celebrate their 37-year marriage.
25. How did the couple go back to their home after the trip to China?
A. By cycling. B. By train. C. By plane. D. By sea.
26. Why did the couple put off their trip in 2017?
A. Peter had an accident.
B. They ran out of their money.
C. They met with a heavy snow.
D. Peter fell ill suddenly in Hungary.
27. What’s the best part of the trip for the couple?
A. The beautiful scenes.
B. The help from others.
C. The delicious food and drink.
D. The kindness from other partners.
C
I am often laughed at for my habit of traveling by foot. I often walk about 3 miles
from home to work rather than take the subway. Sometimes, kind-hearted drivers will
offer me a ride, thinking that my car has broken down.
But for me, walking is a good opportunity to relax myself. Besides, it helps my
back recover from a day spent bent in front of a computer screen. In terms of health, I
have always thought I'd have the last laugh, and now there's even more evidence on my
side.
Nine years later, brain scans showed that those who had walked more had greater
brain volume(容量) than those who walked less. Four years after that, the volunteers
were tested again—this time for dementia ( 痴 呆 ). Among the group, 116 people
showed signs of memory loss or dementia. Those who had walked the most—at least 7
miles each week—were half as likely to have cognitive(认知)problems as those who
walked the least.
A study has found that the simple act of walking may improve memory in old age.
As we age, our brains shrink, which can lead to the loss of memory. However, experts
say there's still not enough data to prove that exercise can prevent memory loss. It's also
too soon to say whether exercise may prevent dementia or simply delay it in people who
would eventually develop it anyway. But for those who suffer from dementia(痴呆),
even a short delay could mean great losses in quality of life.
28. What is probably the best title for the passage?
A. Walking May Contribute to the Brain Activity
B. Good Ways to Prevent Loss of Memory
C. Walking Is More Convenient Than Driving
D. The Relationship Between Walking and Memory
29.The underlined word "shrink" in the last paragraph probably
means .
A. become smaller B. become softer
C. become less clear D. become tired
30. According to the passage, we can infer that .
A. walking is one of the best ways to increase our memory
B. people's memory won't change much with proper exercise
C. whether exercise can prevent dementia remains to be tested further
D. those who exercise regularly are much easier to be successful
31. The passage is probably taken from a .
A. news report B. fashion magazine
C.science fiction D. health magazine
D
Every American family has its own traditions on Thanksgiving Day, and mine is
not different. Once the national holiday arrives, my mom rises early to make the meal.
She puts a turkey in the oven, chops carrots and bakes pies. I'm sorry to say that the men
in the family — my dad, my younger brother and myself — rarely pitch in to help. Our
job is to wash the mountain of dirty dishes after the meal is over.
Around 2 pm every Thanksgiving Day, family members seat themselves around
the kitchen table. Plates of turkey, vegetables, salad, rolls and pies cover it. At this point,
we can hardly keep ourselves from drooling (流口水) all over our fancy clothes, but it's
not yet time to eat. First, we must bow our heads, close our eyes and say a prayer of
thanks aloud to God for giving us everything we have. Under normal circumstances, I
would have no problem making a list of things I am thankful for. I grew up in a loving
family. My parents, who aren't wealthy, took out loans to help me pay for university.
But, the funny thing is, every time I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and try to
say a prayer of thanks, my mind usually goes blank. I think it has something to do with
my growling (咕咕叫) stomach and all of that food sitting right there under my nose.
Eventually, though, we all finish our short prayers and dig in. To be sure, the day
includes other highlights — visiting with family and watching football. But usually
around 6 pm we are all ourselves stuffed like turkeys and thankful to have a nice warm
bed to sleep in.
32. The purpose of the text is to__________.
A.tell what the family do for Thanksgiving Day
B.tell how the family spends Thanksgiving Day
C.introduce foods served on Thanksgiving Day
D.introduce the American Thanksgiving Day
33. On Thanksgiving Day the author's family do the following except__________.
A.watching a movie B.making visits
C.having a big meal D.watching football
34.Why does the author's mind usually “go blank” when saying a prayer of thanks?
A.He is too thankful to say a word.
B.His mind is on the food before him.
C.He feels too excited to speak.
D.He is shy to speak in public.
35. What can we conclude from the text?
A.On Thanksgiving Day, men do nothing but eat.
B.The author is a middle school student.
C.The author's family is not rich, but it's a loving one.
D.Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday of December.

Text 1
M: When are you going to the supermarket?
W: Well, I was going to go in a minute, but I have to reply to some e-mails first. I’ll go
right after lunch.
Text 2
W: Quitting? But why?
M: I like my job, but I haven’t had a promotion since I started. I don’t think there is any
future for me.
Text 3
M: Did you hear the storm last night? It seemed to hit something near the hotel.

W: Not too bad. The meeting will be at 10 am on March 14th in the Rose Hotel in
Manchester. We still have six days.
Text 5
W: So, it’s a three-bedroom house?
M: Yeah. One for my wife and I, the other one for our daughter.
W: What about the third one?
M: My wife wants to use it as a guest room, but I’d like to make it into a study, so that’s
what will happen.
Text 6
W: Excuse me. I bought this shirt from your store two days ago, but it is just too small
to wear.
