第I卷 (选择题 共60分)
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)

Most buildings are built to stand up straight, but these look as if they might fall over!
The church tower of Suurhusen
Built in 1450, the 27-metre-high church tower lies in Suurhusen, Germany. It was built in wet land on foundations of oak tree trunks (树干) .When the land was drained(排水) later, the wood broke down, causing one side of the tower to be a little lower than the other. In 1975, the tower became a real hazard and people were not allowed to enter until the foundations were made strong again. The lean (倾斜) of the tower is now about five degrees.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
The work of building the tower began in 1173, and was finally completed in 1372. In fact, it began to lean after just a couple of floors were built. And this condition continued in the centuries after its completion. The tower was finally closed to the public in 1990 after people failed to stabilize(使稳固) its foundations. In 2001,it was reopened after engineers removed soil from underneath its raised side. Now it leans just an angle of 3. 97 degrees.
Capital Gate of Abu Dhabi
Completed in 2011, the Capital Gate tower in Abu Dhabi was designed to lean eighteen degrees. The building stands next to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and contains, among other things, a fine hotel with wonderful views of the harbour. Also known as the leaning tower of Abu Dhabi, the tower is one of the tallest buildings in the city.
Big Ben of London
The building leans 0.26 degrees to the northwest. This was mainly caused by the engineering projects(项目) that have been carried out in the ground below it since the late 1800s. The tower, which has been continuously open since it was completed in 1858, has nowhere near the lean of the Tower of Pisa and is still completely safe to enter.

Confucius (551~479BC) was a thinker, educator, and founder of the Ru School for Chinese thought.
He was a well known leader in philosophy and he also made many wise phrases and theories about the law, life, and the government that helped many people learn about nature, the world, and human beings.
Confucius’s social philosophy largely centers around the concept of “ren”, which is “loving others” and “honoring one’s parents”. Those who have developed “ren” are “simple in manner and slow of speech”. For Confucius, such concern for others is proved through the practice of the Golden Rule: “What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.”
Confucius thinks a good rulership was to have “de” or “virtue” which allows one to win people’s support without using any force and keep good order in his state without troubling himself, and that a ruler should rule his people by his own example and treat them with love and concern.
A characteristic of Confucius’ thought is his emphasis (强调) on education and study. “A good teacher is someone who knows well the ways of the past and the practices of the ancients” and he also thinks “He who learns but does not think is lost. He who thinks but does not learn is in great danger.”
Confucius did not write down the principles of his philosophy; these were handed down only through his students. Lun Yu, a book compiled(编撰)by some of his students, is considered the most dependable source of information about his life and teachings. One of the historical works that he is said to have compiled and edited, The Spring and Autumn Annals, is describing Chinese history in the state of Lu from 722 to 481 BC.
Since Confucius’s teachings and philosophy was so advanced, it was the education for China for 2,000years. It is called Confucianism.

No one can believe that the Great Wall might disappear some day. Believe it or not, the Great Wall is being
destroyed by people. Less than 20 percent of the Great Wall built in the Ming Dynasty is still perfect, but about 80 percent is in danger. The Great Wall can be called “great” mostly because of its amazing length. But we should realize that the length was made up of one brick at a time. If we do nothing to save the Great Wall, it will become a series of separate wasteland rather than a historic site.
The Great Wall is actually a series of walls built and rebuilt by different dynasties over the past 2,000years.It began in the rule of China’s first emperor, Qin Shihuang of the Qin Dynasty, and lasted into the Ming Dynasty. The parts built before the Ming Dynasty have nearly disappeared. People are familiar with sections such as Ba daling in Beijing and Jia yuguan in Gansu because they have been open to tourists for many years. But those sections far away from the public eyes have been almost forgotten.
Few local people knew the 3metrehigh walls made of earth and stones beside them are part of the Great Wall. The lack of knowledge is considered as one of the main reasons behind human.
The bricks on the Great Wall are carried off by countryside people to build their houses, sheep corral(畜栏) and pigsties(猪圈).Some were taken away to build roads. Bricks carved with people’s names are put away as remembrance (纪念). Rubbish is spread over the battlements (城垛).The bricks can be sold for 15yuan per tractor load. Those who destroyed and are destroying the Great Wall know its name, but are not clear about its cultural meaning. It will take a long time to let them know this. The local farmers not only carried off the body of the Great Wall but dug out the entire base.
It is necessary to protect the Great Wall. The officials should be aware of the importance of the Great Wall. Young Chinese should know more about the nation’s great civilization and learn to love it.
8.The underlined part in Paragraph 2refers to the parts of the Great Wall .
A.that are too difficult to understand
B.that nobody can watch
C.that are not well known to the public
D.that are too far to be seen
9.What’s the main reason for the Great Wall’s being destroyed?
A. The local people are short of cultural knowledge.
B. The local people need bricks and stones to build houses.
C. The local people think the Great Wall is not important.
D. The bricks of the Great Wall can be sold for money.
10.Why does the author say the Great Wall might disappear?
A. It is useless from now on.
B. It will be replaced by a new one.
C. Some parts of it are being destroyed.
D. It’s too old to be used once again.

You’ll never guess I’m writing this e-mail from a cave! We’re on the holiday in Spain now. We spent a few
days in Barcelona first. It’s a great place but we had a good time though I didn’t feel well. Anyway, after we left Barcelona, we come to spend several days in Granada. And guess what? We couldn’t find a hotel because there were quite a lot of tourist. Then someone said, “Why not trying the cave dwellings(住宅) here?” We thought he was joking, but here we were really in a cave dwelling and it’s wonderfully. Take care!

Dear Mike,
I learn from your letter that you are interested in our school sports meeting. It took place last week.
The sports meeting took place on our school playground, and it lasted for three days in all. We enjoyed different events like relay race and some fun games. As I wanted to challenge myself, I joined in the 3,000-meter race. Because my classmates cheered me, I fought hard for the whole race. I finished last, but I still felt proud of myself.
All in all, the sports meeting offered us a good chance to relax ourselves, and taught us the importance of teamwork and the courage of facing challenges. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
