www.ks5u.com 英语 ‎ 一、阅读理解 I.On Saturday evening, CCTV showed a computer-generated image of the Chang'e 3 lander's path as it approached the surface of the moon, saying that during the landing period it needed to have no contact with Earth. As it was just hundreds of meters away the lander's camera broadcast images of the moon's surface.‎ The Chang'e 3's solar panels, which are used to absorb sunlight to generate power, opened soon after the landing. China sent its first astronaut into space in 2003, becoming the third nation after Russia and the United States to achieve manned space travel independently. In 2006, it sent its first probe(探测器) to the moon. China plans to open a space station around 2020 and send an astronaut to the moon after that.‎ ‎"They are taking their time with getting to know about how to fly humans into space, how to build space stations, how to explore the solar system, especially the moon and Mars. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (商标). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, you might want to save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren’t necessarily more nutritious, and they’re no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either.‎ The latest results, published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. “We did not find strong evidence that organic food is more nutritious or healthier,” says Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford. “So consumers shouldn’t assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer.”‎ For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats.‎ While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart ‎ disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.‎ Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn’t always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that “whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste.” Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.‎ ‎8.The new research questions whether organic food __________.‎ A.should replace traditional food B.has been overpriced by farmers C.is really more nutritious and healthier D.is grown with less harmful chemicals ‎9.Smith-Spangler and her colleagues found that __________.‎ A.organic food could reduce the risk of heart disease B.traditional food was grown with more natural methods C.both organic and traditional food they examined were safe D.there was not a presence of any forms of bacteria in organic food ‎10..Which of the following is relatively healthier according to the passage?‎ A.Organic chicken and pork. B.Organic milk and chicken.‎ C.Traditional chicken and pork. D.Traditional fruit and vegetables.‎ ‎11.What is the author’s attitude toward organic food?‎ A.Grateful. B.Doubtful. C.Unconcerned. D.Approving.‎ IV.Languages have been coming and going for thousands of years, but in recent times there has been less coming and a lot more going. When the world was still populated by hunter-gatherers, small, tightly knit(联系) groups developed their own patterns of speech independent of each other. Some language experts believe that 10,000 years ago, when the world had just five to ten million people, they spoke perhaps 12,000 languages between them.‎ Soon afterwards, many of those people started settling down to become farmers, and their languages too became more settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, ‎ trade, industrialisation, the development of the nation-state and the spread of universal compulsory education, especially globalisation and better communications in the past few decades, all have caused many languages to disappear, and dominant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking over.‎ At present, the world has about 6,800 languages. The distribution of these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages, often spoken by many people, while hot, wet zones have lots, often spoken by small numbers. Europe has only around 200 languages; the Americas about1,000; Africa 2 400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3,200, of which Papua New Guinea alone accounts for well over 800. The median number(中位数) of speakers is a mere 6,000, which means that half the world's languages are spoken by fewer people than that.‎ Already well over 400 of the total of, 6,800 languages are close to extinction(消亡), with only a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at random, Busuu in Cameroon (eight remaining speakers), Chiapaneco in Mexico (150), Lipan Apache in the United States (two or three) or Wadjigu in Australia (one, with a question-mark): none of these seems to have much chance of survival.‎ ‎12.What can we infer about languages in hunter-gatherer times?‎ A.They developed very fast. B.They were large in number.‎ C.They had similar patterns D.They were closely connected.‎ ‎13.Which of the following best explains “dominant” underlined in paragraph 2?‎ A.Complex B.Advanced. C.Powerful D.Modern.‎ ‎14.How many languages are spoken by less than 6,000 people at present?‎ A.About 6,800 B.About 3,400 C.About 2,400 D.About 1,200‎ ‎15.What is the main idea of the text?‎ A.New languages will be created.‎ B.People's lifestyles are reflected in languages.‎ C.Human development results in fewer languages.‎ D.Geography determines language evolution.‎ V. Cold weather during winter months may keep many people from leaving home and running in the open air. However, a new study shows that the drop in temperature is a good reason to run. 16______‎ ‎ Many people say running in winter can be difficult. Two reasons are the low temperatures and bitter winds. 17______ That could be because lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate and the body's dehydration (脱水) levels are lower than in warmer conditions. 18______‎ ‎ This information comes from John Brewer, who is a professor of applied sport science at St. Mary's. For this study, he and other researchers put a group of people into a room they called an "environmental chamber". The researchers then recreated summer and winter weather conditions in the room. 19______ Brewer says he and his team recorded biological measurements of the runners.‎ ‎ He says that the most important thing for people who run in cold conditions is to wear the right clothing. Wear gloves on your hands. 20______ And especially wear more than one layer of clothing to keep sweat away from your skin.‎ A.We have good reasons to run in winter.‎ B.Wear shoes that will keep you from falling.‎ C.Many feel nervous when running in the cold weather.‎ D.The body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather.‎ E.In fact, running in cold weather helps improve one's performance.‎ F.The test subjects were asked to run 10,000 meters under both conditions.‎ G.Yet many runners might find it easier than running in hot weather.‎ 二、完形填空 My grandmother was always encouraging me to set goals and work hard to achieve them.
