Open Hearts to Life
We often close ourselves off when unfortunate events happen in our lives; we also try to forget pain by pretending it doesn’t exist, but we can’t make it. 15 The three ways below can open your heart more fully and completely.
Breathe into pain.
Whenever a painful situation arises in your life, 16 .If we run away from sadness that’s unfolding in our lives,it gets stronger.
Ask your heart what it wants.
To start this process, you should ask,“Heart, what decision should I make here? What action feels the most rights?” 17
Engage your shadow.
Many of us who are on the personal development path always get caught in such characteristics, like happiness, love and passion. 18 Try asking yourself a few questions: What parts of myself could I do without? Is there anything I’m hiding from myself?Don’t be afraid of what comes out; instead, acknowledge them and be with them as much as possible.Once you are a lithe(柔韧的) clearer about what exactly you’ve been hiding, you will get easier to shine your light on it.

A.It might be painful or even scary at first.
B.Meanwhile,we end up losing parts of ourselves.

Evaluating Sources(来源)of Health Information
Making good choices about your own health requires reasonable evaluation. A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of health information. Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate fact from opinion, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and
the reliability of sources.36
Go to the original source .Media reports often simplify the results of medical research. Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science. Think about the type of study.37
Watch for misleading language. Some studies will find that a behavior “contributes to” or is “associated with” an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result.38 Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.
Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is. Be especially careful of information contained in advertisements.39 Evaluate “scientific” statements carefully, and be aware of quackery(江湖骗术).
40 Friends and family members can be a great source of ideas and inspiration, but each of us needs to find a healthy lifestyle that works for us.
Developing the ability to evaluate reasonably and independently about health problems will serve you well throughout your life.
A. Make choices that are right for you.
B. The goal of an ad is to sell you something.
C. Be sure to work through the critical questions.
D. And examine the findings of the original research.
E. Distinguish between research reports and public health advice.
F. Be aware that information may also be incorrectly explained by an author’s point of view.
G. The following suggestions can help you sort through the health information you receive from common sources.

Tip 4: Look for discounts on major attractions.
Obviously when you’re travelling you want to see everything the country has to offer. 35 Many tourist attractions have a student or youth discount and some attractions are free for
everyone on certain days.

One of the areas of our body which conveys most about how we feel is how we move our hands and arms. 36 , but most often they occur unconsciously and naturally.
37 . Open hands and arms, especially extended, and with hands up in front of the body at chest height, indicate that what you’re saying is important, and, especially when people are speaking in public, a pointing finger or a hand waving above the shoulders stresses a personal point. However, research shows that people often find speakers who point their fingers a lot rather annoying.
Openness or honesty. 38 , they will often hold one or both of their hands out to the other person. Footballers who have just committed a foul (犯规)often use this gesture to try to convince the referee that they didn’t do it.
Nervousness. If a person puts his hand to his mouth, this either indicates that he is hiding something, or that he is nervous. 39 , and so does holding a bag or briefcase very tightly in front of the body.
Feeling defensive. Arms folded tightly over the chest is a classic gesture of defensiveness and indicates that you are protecting yourself. Research shows that playful teasing between parents and their children can be a way to strengthen relationships, bring up difficult topics, and just have fun. 36 Carol Bishop says, “You need to recognize if they are enjoying it.” There are also rules about what is okay to tease your child about. 37 Instead, tease kids about safe topics, like a messy room, or things that can be easily changed.
Teasing should also be a two-way street. 38 If they go too far making fun of you, be sure not to blow up. Instead, help them to learn boundaries and what may hurt others.
Teasing about a disappointing grade should only be used as a gentle reminder to study or do homework. It shouldn’t be focused on the ability because that could make the situation worse. It’s
not wrong to say to your child, “I’m disappointed that you got a C.” 39 You need to examine if there is a learning disability or maybe they are depressed or being bullied.
From monsters under the bed to darkness and loud noises, fears that may seem silly to an adult may be very real to a child. 40 In fact, it could make them worse. Teasing a child who is frightened about something is not a way for them to expand their horizon—you need to make them feel secure.
A. Appearance and weight are both prohibited.
B. But then you must work with them to figure out the cause.
C. Laughing or teasing won’t help them overcome their fears.
D. But parents need to recognize when teasing becomes hurtful.
E. You have to be willing to let your child tease you about things.
F. Kids view comparisons to their classmates or friends in a negative way.

The Science of Risk-Seeking
Sometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth tasking. 36 Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say if may have to do with how our brains work.
The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. 37 As the quality of Risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.
So why aren’t we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. 38
No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. 39 To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.
40 For the risk-seekers a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.
As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, we’ll continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.
A. Those are the risks you should jump to take.
B. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival.
C. It all depends on your character.
D. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world.
E. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.
F. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation.
G. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards.

The modern competitive sport of weightlifting originated in 19th-century Europe and was included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. 36 At that time, simple competitions were held to see who could lift the heaviest weight.
The first worldwide weightlifting championships were held in London in 1891. At that time, there were no female competitors. Today, the World Weightlifting Championships, organized by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), are held every year. 37
Weightlifting as an Olympic event got off to an unsmooth start. It was not held as a separate event in the first games held in 1896, but as a field event. 38 The sport returned to the Olympics again in 1904, this time as part of the athletics program. Not until 1920 did weightlifting make its real Olympic comeback. The 1920 Olympic Games, held in Antwerp, Belgium, marked weightlifting’s debut(首次露面)as a separate event. 39 Previously, weightlifters in the Olympics were all required to compete against each other, regardless of their size. One-hand lifting was dropped from the sport in 1928. Various weightlifting exercises were added and later removed over many years until 1972. 40 The 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney saw the introduction of the women’s competition, although the IWF has held the World Weightlifting Championships for women since 1987.
A. The 1940 and 1944 Games were canceled.
B. It is a sport in which barbells are lifted competitively.
C. The 1900 Games had no weightlifting presence at all.
D. The championships include 15 separate weight types for both men and women.
E. The 1972 Olympic Games finally presented the weightlifting program in its present form.
