Do you know who was the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize? It was Bertha von Suttner who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905, and also the inspiration for the creation of the Nobel Prize.
She met Alfred Nobel, a rich millionaire, by answering his newspaper ad for a secretary. Although she only worked for him for a few weeks, she remained good friends with Alfred Nobel for the next 20 years. When she became involved in the peace
movement in Europe, she promised to keep Nobel informed of its progress. When Alfred Nobel died in 1896, his will included the establishment of a peace prize, thanks to Bertha von Suttner's influence.
Bertha von Suttner was born in an aristocratic (贵族的) military family, but she spent the second half of her life working for peace. She wrote books, attended peace conferences, gave lectures and helped organize peace societies in Austria, Germany and Hungary, as well as the International Peace Bureau in Switzerland. Her novel, Lay Down Your Arms, was one of the most influential anti-war books of all time, and helped to make her a leader of the peace movement in Europe. Its end to war theme was both the ambition (抱负) and the most important goal in the life of this great woman.
Bertha von Suttner worked so hard for peace because she believed that a terrible war would break out in Europe if nations didn't work hard to establish lasting peace institutions. She made many major achievements for a more peaceful world, but two months after she died, World War Ⅰ broke out. A hundred years after she won the Nobel Peace Prize, nations still seem to view war as a choice to work out their problems. But like Bertha von Suttner did, many today are working hard around the world to help strengthen peace institutions and spread the idea that it's time to put an end to war.
24. Bertha von Suttner ________.
A. worked for Alfred Nobel for 20 years
B. helped Alfred Nobel draw up his will
C. inspired Alfred Nobel to establish the Nobel Peace Prize
D. persuaded Alfred Nobel to join the peace movement
25. Paragraph 3 is mainly about Bertha von Suttner's ________.
A. ambition and goals in life
B. writing career and life experiences
C. family background and work experiences
D. efforts and contributions to the peace movement
26. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Bertha von Suttner successfully predicted a war.
B. Bertha von Suttner lost her life in World WarⅠ.
C. Bertha von Suttner's fight for peace is still shared by many.
D. Bertha von Suttner failed to found peace institutions.

Remember to make it a conversation rather than a list of questions. Prepared questions are just a guideline. 33 You can also try to ask your interviewee about his/her personal thoughts and reactions to events and people they deal with.
Appropriate feedback (反馈) is also important. Feel free to say words that show you are listening, like “Yeah” and “Mmmm”. 34 You can also give more facial feedback like smiling.
35 If the interviewee changes suddenly from one line of thought to another, lead them back to the area you're focusing on. Guide the interview but don't keep interrupting with many questions.
A. You can try to ask questions based on what they have said to you in previous responses.
B. In order to get the information you need, you should guide the interview.

第三节 概要写作(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
School uniforms(制服)are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.A. That’s no surprise, because they offer many benefits. They immediately end the powerful social sorting and labeling (标记)that come from clothing. If all students are dressed in the same way, they will not pay too much attention to their clothing, and some of them will not be laughed at for wearing the “wrong” clothes.
Some people are against the strict rule of school uniforms, but they do not realize that students already accept a kind of rule — wanting to look just like their friends. The difference is that the clothing students choose for themselves creates social barriers(障碍); school uniforms tear those barriers down.
As in other places, uniforms remind the wearers of their purposes and duties. For example, when a man or woman puts on a police uniform,he or she becomes, for a time, the symbol(象征)of law and order. The uniform means to the wearer his or her special duties and sends the same message to everyone the wearer meets. People with different jobs wear uniforms of one kind or another. For students, the school uniform reminds them that their task for the six or seven hours they are in school is to get an education.
Some parents are unhappy about uniforms, saying that school uniforms will affect their children’s “creativity”. First,as noted above, the clothes students choose to wear do not necessarily express their individuality (个性). They just copy their classmates. Second, students have the rest of the day to be as creative as they like. While they’re in school, their job is to master reading, writing, and maths; this should take up all the creativity they have. Mastery of those skills will be good for the students to build up their creativity in every way.

Text 10
M: Growing crops in containers saves water. It needs little fertilizer(肥料). In addition, the chemicals cannot run off into nearby waterways. The same earth mixture can be used for five or six years.
Since Earth Boxes went on sale in 1994, many people around the world have used them. Other people have made their own vegetable growing boxes. Some use two large plastic containers. One container has holes in the bottom and sits inside the other box. Earth mixture goes into the top container, and water goes through a tube into the bottom box. A plastic trash bag is then used to cover the top container.
Some people think this kind of gardening will be important to people in poor countries where hunger is a problem. A lot of food can be grown in a small space for a small
amount of money.
The people who make Earth Boxes are interested in educating young people. They have developed a program aimed at teaching students science and agriculture. When children first enter elementary school, they learn about water, soil, light, and nutrition. In middle school, they do experiments and collect information. In high school, they learn how to use math to better understand what happens when plants grow. The learning program includes written materials for teachers and students. And it uses an Earth Box in the classroom as a small laboratory for experiments.
