Very often I' m smiling before I go to sleep.‎ I decide to write about this in a blog because I find that so many of 28 go to sleep with stress. Before we go to sleep, we may run over the day in our minds, and worry about tomorrow. We also may watch the news on TV, read the news on our smart phones or tablets, or even answer work emails. But the news is rarely proclaiming(宣告) all the good that’s happening in the world and work emails make us feel that were still at work. All these things may leave us a stressful sleep.‎ Oor Wullie and The Broons are not the only things 1 ever read at night I sometimes read ‎ novels but, with the odd exception, I mostly avoid anything that is too mentally taxing or stimulating late at night unless it' s something that inspires me or is clearly helpful in my life.‎ And even if do read something mentally stimulating, when I feel myself getting tired I lay that book down and pick up a trusty old Oor Wllie or The Broons for the last 10 or 15 minutes. Doing this makes my mind quiet and helps ensure I get a peaceful night's sleep. Reading about Wullie or Maw and Paw Broon is like a comfort blanket for me.‎ I'd suggest you find light-hearted reading as a comfort blanket at bedtime, especially if you find yourself stressed or depressed a lot of the time, or if you find difficulty winding at the end of a day. It is the thing that can gently turn your attention towards lightness and ease.‎ If your material makes you laugh, then you may feel even better. Several studies show that laughter boosts happy chemicals in the brain, it strengthens the immune system, it’s good for the heart, and it is most definitely good for mental health. It even helps us improve our relationships.‎ And if you do happen to pick up a copy of Oor Wullie or The Broons, I hope you find it just as entertaining as I do.‎ ‎20. What can we learn about Oor Wullie and The Broons?‎ A. They make people run over the past days.‎ B. They are the best books to be read before people seep.‎ C. They are extremely popular with young people.‎ D. They make people feel relaxed and happy.‎ ‎21. What can we know from the text?‎ A. Oor Wullile and The Broons are the author' S favorite books.‎ B. A comfortable blanket makes people go to seep easily.‎ C. 'The author sometimes reads something about inspirations..‎ D. Reding something stimulating al night helps get a peaceful sleep.‎ ‎22. What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?‎ A. What material brings us laughter.‎ B. How laughter affects our health.‎ C. What benefit laughter brings to us.‎ D. Why laughter is good for us.‎ ‎23. What' S the main purpose of the text?‎ A. To show the importance of reading before sleeping B. To prove the importance of a good mood before sleeping.‎ C. To tell us how to make ourselves stay relaxed before seeping.‎ D. To explain how t0 choose a boo worthy to be read before seeping.‎ C Are African wild dogs really dogs? What's the difference between African wild dogs and the dogs we know as pets? For one thing, African wild dogs, which live in Africa, only have four toes, while domestic (驯养的) dogs and wolves have five. But you won't want to count for yourself, because they are truly wild animals. ‎ ‎“Wild dogs are not somebody's domestic dogs that ran away and didn't come back, although some people used to think that,” explains Dr McNutt, who studies these animals at Wild Dog Research Camp in the African country of Botswana. "They are actually Africa's wolves, and just like wolves, they do not make good pets. They need to be out in the wild doing what they are supposed to do find the food they need to survive and feed their babies." In fact, they travel so far that researchers have to use radio collars (颈圈) to keep track of them. The collars send out radio signals that tell people where the dogs are. No two wild dogs have the same pattern of coats, so it is easy to tell them apart.‎ African wild dogs are smart and sociable, like pet dogs. Adult dogs, male and female, are willing to take good care of young ones.‎ Millions of domestic dogs live on the planet, but there are probably fewer than6,00 African wild dogs left. Humans hunt them and farmers who don't want them 10 go after cows and sheep ‎ poison them. Humans are also destroying the wild, natural habitat(栖息地)they need to survive in. Fortunately, today more farmers are finding other ways to protect her cows and sheep from African wild dogs instead of killing the animals 24. Which of the following can explain why African wild dogs are different from domestic dogs?‎ A. African dogs can live longer than domestic dogs.‎ B. African dogs have fewer toes than domestic dogs.‎ C. African dogs are much bigger in size than domestic dogs.‎ D. African dogs are much more dangerous than domestic dogs.‎ ‎25. What's the researchers’ purpose of using radio collars?‎ A. To know where African wild dogs go.‎ B. To play games with African wild dogs.‎ C. To tell African wild dogs apart from other dogs.‎ D. To prevent African wild dogs from traveling too far.‎ ‎26. What suggestion does the author give in the last paragraph?‎ A. Farmers should use domestic dogs 1o fight against wild dogs.‎ B. African wild dogs should be protected instead of being killed C. Farmers should take responsibility for feeding African wild dogs.‎ D. African wild dogs should be used to protect farmers' cows and sheep.‎ ‎27. Which of the following can be used as the tile of the passage?‎ A. How to keep wild dogs B. How to train domestic dogs C. An introduction to African wild dogs D. Differences between domestic dogs and wild dogs D A new study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family claims that all that time you spend parenting just doesn't matter. But it's a claim that, despite the enthusiastic and widespread coverage by the media, does not hold water.‎ ‎ The research suggests that child outcomes (including behavior problems, emotional problems, and academic performance) are barely connected with the time that parents spend with their children, The researchers examined the time diaries of 1, 600 children, looking at parenting time and outcomes when the kids were aged3to 11 in 1997,and again in 2002,when they were between 8 and 16.(A time diary is a detailed report of all activities you carry out in a day.) This research largely reflects the failure of the authors to correctly measure parental input (投入).It just looked at time diaries from two particular days one a weekday the other a weekend day. ‎ Trying to get a sense of the time you spend parenting from a single day's diary is a bit like trying to measure your income from a single day. If yesterday was payday, you looked rich, but if it's not, you would be reported as poor. You get a clearer picture only by looking at your income or your parenting time over a more meaningful period.‎ What you did yesterday should not be taken as representative of what you did last year. This is why most high- quality studies of parenting time focus instead on how often parents read to their children, play with them or help them with homework over a period of a month or longer long enough to represent their different approaches to parenting.‎ As an exhausted parent who doesn't get enough time to work out, and who hasn't seen a ‎ movie for months, I understand why so many of us might seize on studies suggesting that we should take more time for ourselves. Perhaps we should. But I agree with Ariel Kalil, a developmental psychologist, on the suggestion “that when parents spend high- quality time with their children, their children are more likely to succeed."‎ ‎28. The underlined words "hold water in the first paragraph probably mean__________.‎ A. to be valid B. to be surprising C. to be confusing D. to be usual ‎29.The study was conducted to explore the link between__________.‎ A. parenting time and child outcomes B. time diaries and child development C. children's habits and parents influence D. daily activities and children s problems ‎30.How is Paragraph 4 mainly developed?‎ A. By giving descriptions.‎ B. By analyzing the cause.‎ C. By making a comparison.‎ D. By offering research findings.‎ ‎31.The author may agree that high-quality studies of parenting time should__________.‎ A.be completed in one month B. adopt some different approaches C. concentrate mainly on learning time D.be based on data of a longer time period 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ Benefits of Sports Playing sports offers a lot of benefits to people. 32 Read on to discover how taking part in sports can improve your life.
