My family lives in Texas. I was born and brought up in Texas and I am a graduate of the
University of Texas. However, around my second year in law school, I wanted to make a great

Smartphones have been blamed for everything from taking drivers' attention from driving to
keeping people on the sofa scrolling ( 滚 屏 ) videos. But the smartphone that seems to be
everywhere could just as easily increase physical activity if it pushes its owner's buttons in the
right way.
New research shows that making social connections through activity-tracking apps gets
people to move more. And a separate study on this summer’s “Pokemon Go” phenomenon shows
that the smartphone game got players to take thousands more steps than usual. Together, the
studies show the potential for smartphones to push a range of people to be more active.
People who linked with friends on the activity-tracking app increase their steps by 400 a day
on average over the next week, compared with people who made no social connections, according
to Tim Althoff and two other computer scientists at Stanford University. The effect of social
connections declined, but remained significant for five months before the numbers fell back even

Such insights show the promise of smartphones and games to help with one of the most
stubborn public health problems — that even people who want to be active have trouble staying

faster.
Still, there is room for growth: Only about 4% of all health apps use “gamification”, such as

For centuries, people have kept large amounts of cash at home during difficult

times. But during the coronavirus crisis, things are different. Metal coins and paper
bills can be a source of worry rather than hope.
The fear is that these objects, possibly touched by thousands of people, could
provide a way for the coronavirus to spread. Public officials and health experts have
said that the risk is small. Still, some businesses refuse to accept cash and some
countries have suggested that their citizens should stop using it altogether.
Zachary Cohle is an economics professor at Quinnipiac University in
Connecticut. “In many areas, cash was already beginning to disappear due to the
increased risk of robbery, the ease of Internet ordering, and the ubiquity(无处不在)
of cell phones,” he said. “Sweden, Finland, Norway, Canada and others have slowly
reduced cash use to the point where using it in large amounts seems unusual. Britain
and Australia are expected to become cashless countries. And in China, cash use has
dropped as electronic payment services have increased in popularity over the past
decade.”
“Cash ist Fesch” is a common saying in Austria and southern Germany. The

Japan. He added, “The culture is slowly changing.”
However, cash use is still common in places like West and Central Africa. Some
experts say that the world will not be cashless until everyone and every country has
reliable access to the Internet.

"Oh no! She went over the cliff, Momma! The Bronco and Marcy - they went over! We have to
help her! Come on!"
Judy took off running. Ruth ran behind her, but Judy was quickly out of sight after the first
turn in the road. Ruth raced down the steep hill, breathing hard. She ran on and on, down the hill,
up the next, trying to catch up with her daughter. It was getting harder and harder to see anything
at dusk.
Ruth stopped cold and looked around. She screamed into the darkness "Judy, where are you?"
Off to her immediate right and down the cliff she heard, "Down here, Mother! Don't come near the
edge! I slipped on loose rocks and fell over. I'm down about twenty feet."

"Just stay back, Momma! I think I can crawl back up. I saw the white roof of the Bronco
when I was falling, Momma, and I heard Marcy calling for help. She's alive! But she's way down

she knew for certain that she was the only person that could help Judy and Marcy out!

the cabin driveway, pushed through the front door and dialed 911.

Today we are going to talk about potatoes.
Potatoes have been around for a very long time. In the food magazine Bon Appétit, Sam Dean

If someone is a meat-and-potatoes kind of person, they prefer simple life. They are not
interested in fancy goods, complex emotions or things alike.
Okay, as you know, a cooked potato can stay hot for a long time, and therefore comes the
expression “hot potato”. When you describe something as a “hot potato”, you’re saying it’s
difficult to deal with and you want to get rid of it as soon as possible, because it’s “too hot to
hold”. We also have “small potatoes”, which means unimportant people or things. But, we do not
