If you see someone drowning, speed is very important. Once you get him out of the water, if he isn't breathing, you have four minutes before his brain is completely destroyed. Support his neck, move his head back and press his chin upwards. This stops the tongue blocking the airway in the throat and is sometimes enough to get him breathing again. If that doesn't work, start mouth-to-mouth breathing. Press his nostrils (the two holes at the end of your nose, through which you breathe and smell things) together with your fingers. Open your mouth and take a deep breath. Blow into his lungs until his chest rises, then remove your mouth and watch his chest fall. Repeat twelve times a minute. Keep doing until professional help arrives.
To bring a child back to life, keep your lips around his mouth and gently blow into his mouth. Give the first four breaths as quickly as possible to fill the blood with oxygen. If, in spite of your efforts, he starts turning a blue-grey colour, and you can feel no pulse , then pressing is the last chance of saving his life.
With arms straight, rock forwards, pressing down on the lower half of the breastbone. Don't be too hard or you may break a rib. Check how effective you are by seeing if his colour improves or his pulse becomes independent to your chest pressing. If this happens, stop the pressing. Otherwise continue until rescue arrives.
61 .If you want to save someone drowning, you __________.
A. have to pull off his clothes first .
B. should try to get him out of water as quickly as possible.
C. should first make out who he is.
D. ought to throw a life coat to him first .
62. Once a person stops breathing, it means ___________.
A. you have no more than 4 minutes to bring him to life again .
B. his brain is completely damaged .
C. he has passed away .
D. there is no way to save his life .
63 .To press his chin upwards is a way to _____________.
A. keep the tongue blocking the airway in the throat .
B. prevent the tongue from stopping the airway in the throat .
C. wipe the tongue out of the throat .
D. see if he can possibly be saved .
64 .If the drowning boy has no pulse,_____________.
A. press his chin upwards is enough to get him breathing .
B. blow air into his mouth is sure to save his life .
C. press his nostrils together with your fingers can work .
D. press is the last chance of saving his life .

The huge thirst for jobs in the civil service has made the national civil servant(公务员) exam one of China's most competitive tests. The first exam was held in 1995, and since then more and more people have signed up for it, with applications reaching a peak over the last two years.
The latest online survey, carried out by China Youth Daily and www.qq.com, found that more than 73 percent of young people want to work as civil servants. Of the 17,330 respondents, about 83 percent said they were attracted by the job's stability, guaranteed health care and pension(退休金). Meanwhile, 55 percent said it could bring "practical profits". Nearly 1 million people applied to take the exam last year, yet only just over 10,000 were finally employed.
This year the competition continued. The exact number of applicants is not known, with the final day for applications today. But the flood of applicants has already broken the exam's website once. China Youth Daily reported that the site was forced to close for maintenance due to unusually high traffic on the night of October 16, which has never happened in the past.
In a typical year several hundred applicants will apply for many of the jobs listed. For example, the five job vacancies provided by the secretariat (秘书处) of the Central Committee of the CPC have attracted more than 3,880 applicants this year. Positions as civil servants are attractive, not only because of the stable income and good health care, but also because of the low risks compared with the power and resources the positions enjoy. Among the total 6 million public servants, around 20,000 were dismissed between 1996 and 2007.

68. How many people on average will compete for one post provided by the secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC this year?
A. 835. B. 750. C. 776. D. 3,880.
69. The underlined word "maintenance" in Paragraph 3 probably means________.
A. break B. repair C. change D. display
70. What would be the best title for the passage?

第二卷(共35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到相应的位置上(请注意问题后的词数要求)。
[1] Medical research is leading American education officials to consider having high school classes start later in the morning. The research says that teenagers are more awake later at night than adults are. When staying up late at night, the teenagers have problems learning early in the morning.
[2] Researchers in the state of Rhode Island measured the amount of the hormone(荷尔蒙) melatonin(降黑素) in people's mouths at different times of the day. Melatonin causes people to feel sleepy.
[3] They found that melatonin levels rise later at night in teenagers than they do in children and adults. It remains at higher levels in teenagers early in the morning. They said this shows that teenagers have difficulty learning early in the morning. Yet most school systems in the United States begin high school classes at about seven o'clock.
[4] A few school districts have made some changes. In 1996, school officials in Edina, Minnesota, changed the start of classes from seven thirty to eight thirty. Two years later, the nearby city of Minneapolis did the same. Teachers there reported that students were no longer sleepy in class and were happier. Staying in school later in the day did not seem to be a problem for students who had jobs after school either.
[5] Health experts say that teenagers need between eight and nine hours of sleep a night. Students _________ are likely to be late for school, fail to do their homework, fall asleep in class and have trouble taking part in class discussions.
[6] Some people, however, don't support a later start time because they say that it would limit the time for practicing sports after school. However, the Minnesota schools found that this did not hurt school sports competitions.
[7] More American school districts are discussing the possibility of changing high school start times. Researchers and teenagers say that they cannot make the change quickly enough.
76. What is the best title of the passage? (Please answer within 8 words.)
77. Please fill in the blank in the fifth paragraph with proper words or phrases to complete the sentence. (Please answer within 8 words.)

My opinion on copying others’ homework
It is known to us all that some students copy others’ homework. As students, we have to do plenty of homework both at home and at school, but sometimes we have some homework which is too difficult for us. On the other hand, some students are lazy, and are not interested in their lessons. They don’t work hard. In order to finish the assignments and please their teachers, some students copy others’ homework.
In my opinion, it is wrong to copy others’ homework because it breaks the school rules. Students should be honest and try to finish our homework by ourselves instead of by copying. Even though we have trouble doing our homework we can ask our classmates or teachers for
help.
