Unit 2 Fit for life 课时练1 2篇阅读+1篇完形 ‎[学生用书P379(单独成册)]‎ 阅读理解 A ‎(2020·安徽五校质检) We humans are addicted to sugar. That makes sense. All animals need sugar to live. It’s the fuel that powers our cells. So it’s not surprising that we’re born to want the sweet stuff.‎ Sugar stores the sun’s energy like a battery. After a meal, your body breaks down foods into their building blocks. It uses some sugar for energy right away. The rest get stored for the body to break down later. It’s a myth that sugar makes you extremely excited, but having a sugary snack can give you a quick burst of energy. That’s because the sugar in sweet foods is easy for your body to turn into fuel. When you eat other kinds of foods, like vegetables, it takes longer for your body to break the sugar down.‎ These days it’s easy to find sweet snacks. Sodas, candy, cakes and even foods that seem healthy, such as yogurt, can be packed with sugar. Food makers add sugar, because they know that to humans, sweet makes everything taste better. Americans eat about 20 teaspoons of extra sugar every day. That’s way more than what is good for us.‎ Eating too much sugar can cause more than a stomachache. It can make people overweight, decay the teeth and even cause diabetes. However, experts aren’t worried about naturally sweet foods—the problem is added sugar. So go ahead and enjoy sweet apples or even sugar—rich carrots that are also full of vitamins and other good stuff.‎ Even cake is great once in a while, as long as you don’t overdo it. After all, no one wants life to be dull. And your body needs its fuel!‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。糖能给人体提供必需的能量,且易分解,人天生需要糖分;虽然甜食尝起来可口,但是我们不要过多食用。‎ ‎1.The first two paragraphs are mainly developed by ________.‎ A.cause and effect B.problem and solution 13‎ C.giving examples D.making comparisons A 解析:写作手法题。根据第一段尾句“So it’s not surprising that we’re born to want the sweet stuff.”和第二段倒数第二句“That’s because the sugar in sweet foods is easy for your body to turn into fuel.”,并结合第一、二段的内容可知,第一段解释了人天生需要糖的原因;第二段解释了甜食能快速补充能量的原因;据此可推知,第一、二段是通过解释因果的方法组织内容的,故A项正确。‎ ‎2.People may be tricked into eating too much sugar because ________.‎ A.no one wants life to be boring B.we’re born to want the sweet stuff C.socalled healthy food can be packed with sugar D.sugar is the fuel for the plants and animals on the earth C 解析:细节理解题。根据第三段第一、二句“These days it’s easy to find sweet snacks. However, if you’re willing to leave your country and explore life in other areas, there are many countries boasting an extremely cheap and low cost of living. They even use the U.S. dollar for their currency. You can live off a mere $700 to $800 a month in Mexico, and this includes rent for a nice place, facilities, food, and any sightseeing.‎ Argentina Argentina has been a popular tourist destination for many years. It has great restaurants, a rich history, and many places to explore. Not to mention, it’s not very expensive to live there. A decent sized home can cost around $139,000, which is relatively cheap in relation to homes in the United States.‎ Vietnam Vietnam has also become a popular tourist destination in recent years. There are many million dollar luxury homes by the beach, but you can find a modest flat or small home for around $25,000 to $50,000 if you search in the right areas.‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文介绍了四个生活成本低的宜居国家。‎ ‎5.How much does it take at least to live in Mexico for a year?‎ A.About $7,000. That is an old expression, but one worth knowing. A recent look at diets around the world shows that people who eat healthy food—and not too much of it—live longer. But which areas of the world have the best diets? Researchers found that foods in some of the healthiest diets—Mediterranean diet, New Nordic diet, Japanese diet and French diet—may be very different, but they are all heavy on local and seasonal foods, which include more vegetables and seafood and less red meat.‎ Mediterranean diet contains lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and olive oil. The diet has proper amounts of fish and poultry(家禽肉). Red meat and foods high in sugar and salt are not big parts of this diet.‎ New Nordic diet has whole grains like oats and rye, vegetables such as carrots, broccoli and eggs, seafood, fruits, oil, lowfat milk and cheese. Sugary desserts are not common in this diet.‎ Japanese people are some of the longest living people on the planet, with women 13‎ ‎ up to 87 years old and men up to 80. The Japanese diet is the reason for such lengths of life. The diet has many foods that are low in calories and high in nutrients. Japanese people eat a lot of seaweed, tofu, rice, vegetables and fish. The tradition there is to stop eating when your stomach feels 80 percent full.‎ However, French people eat fatty foods but do not get fat. And they live a long time. This phenomenon is called the “French Paradox”. The reason why the French eat fatty foods without getting fat may be simple. They eat less. Serving sizes in French restaurants and of products sold in stores are smaller than those in most countries. And generally speaking, most French people do not snack. This means they do not eat food between meals.‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文主要介绍了世界上四种最健康的饮食。‎ ‎1.What do we know about the healthiest diets around the world?‎ A.They contain abundant calories.‎ B.They tend to be expensive.‎ C.They share certain similarities.‎ D.They reflect popular tastes.‎ C 解析:推理判断题。根据第一段中的“may be very different, but they are all heavy on local and seasonal foods, which include more vegetables and seafood and less red meat”可知,尽管有不同之处,但世界上最健康的饮食都侧重于使用当地的和时令的食物,包括更多的蔬菜和海鲜,以及更少的红肉。由此可推知,世界上最健康的饮食有一定的相似之处,故选C。‎ ‎2.What is considered as a harmful eating habit in Japanese tradition?‎ A.Going low in calories. Enjoy your time living in the moment.”‎ These updates were sent via Moment, an app that tracks the screen time, created by Kevin Holesh in 2014 to fight his own device addiction. He was working as an independent app developer, spending hours each day staring at screens. After work, Holesh found that he was looking mindlessly online instead of talking to his wife or taking his dogs for a walk.‎ ‎“I wanted a way of seeing how much time I was sinking into my phone,” he said. “So I came up with something that could monitor my screen time.” Holesh found that he was spending 75 minutes on his phone a day. He added a function to the app that informed him whenever his screen time was more than 40 minutes. “My phone would make a sound like a bee, and I’d go and do something else. It was like something pushing me in the right direction,” he said. Holesh figured that if the system worked for him, it would work for others, and later that year he made Moment a free app. To date, it has been downloaded 8 million times.‎ Besides, Moment also has a “coach” function, offering guided programs to help users focus and be more productive, for $7.99 a month.‎ ‎“I am so much happier, I sleep better, I read more, I take better care of myself, and most of all I am present in my daytoday life,” Jack, a user said .
