this old gentleman tore his paper into pieces, and went out.‎ Pretty soon after this, the editor came in,looking sad and confused.‎ He said,"What put it into your head that you could edit a paper of this nature? You talk of the moulting(换羽毛)season for cows;and you say that clams(蛤蜊)will lie quiet if music were played to them.‎ Nonsense!Clams always lie quiet and they care nothing whatever about acres in Australia, dozens of koalas have been rescued from burning trees and ashen ground."They are terrified."said Cheyne Flanagan, clinical director of the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie. The only one in the world, koalas, unlike kangaroos, birds or snakes,do not flee from fires but instead climb trees to the top, where they can roll themselves up into a ball for protection and wait for the danger to pass. But during the destructive fires, such as those that have burned in recent weeks, the animals are far less likely to survive.Even if the fire itself does not reach the tree top,the animals may overheat and fall to the ground, where they can be burned to death.‎ While koalas have evolved(进化)to exist alongside wildfires, the animals are facing new threats not just from climate change but also from human development, which will impair their ability to survive fires.‎ ‎"We have these unique animals not found anywhere else on this planet, and we're killing them, Flanagan said,"This is a big wake-up call."‎ ‎24.What do we learn about koalas from this passage?‎ A.They are good at climbing trees.‎ B.Their population drops for illegal hunting.‎ C.They are less adaptable than birds and Three were un-sealed cards from old friends. The fourth was sealed in Myra’s writing. “No parcel, Johnnie?” “No, granny.” Maybe the parcel was too large to come by letter post. That was it. It would come later by parcel post. She must be patient. (91words)‎ Almost unwillingly, she tore the envelope open. Folded in the card was a piece of paper. Written on the card was a message under the printed Happy Birthday -- Buy yourself something nice with the cheque, Myra and Harold. The cheque fluttered to the floor like a bird with a broken wing. Slowly the old lady ‎ bent to pick it up. Her present, her lovely present. With trembling fingers she tore it into little pieces. (68words)‎ 参考范文二:‎ She stood by the window, watching.
