I can hear the sound of insects and feel autumn is nearing. This means my year of study at
Nara University of Education is coming to an end.
The time I've spent here has flown by so quickly. It seems as if I came here a month ago,but in reality I have to go home soon. When I came here,I missed my family and friends back home and found it hard to overcome loneliness, but on the other hand,I was interested in the new environment and had a lot of fun.
I had visited Japan three times before coming to study at this university, but when I started living in Japan, many days were filled with a mixture of anxiety and excitement. I sometimes made silly mistakes, but I thought this was the best way to learn about Japanese culture. I was not the only one that was not accustomed to the different customs of Japanese people.
My plan before coming to Japan was to make friends with some Japanese students in universities. However,I found my best friends were those who came from other countries. I didn't know much about other countries but I came to be more interested in them through making friends from different places, which made me aware of many different and sometimes hard-to-understand customs. Furthermore,I was surprised to see myself thinking more about my own culture and realized I should come to know it better.
I am really happy that I came to Nara. During my stay,I felt the closer connection between humans and nature here than in Europe.
4.What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A. The author felt puzzled all the time.
B. The author is adjusted to the life.
C. Many foreigners live in the city of Nara.
D. Many students like the author felt anxious.
5. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Different countries. B. Different cultures.
C. Many different places. D. Foreign students.
6. What do we know about the Japanese according to the text?
A. They value their lives much more.
B. They are difficult to get along with.
C. They are mindful of protecting the environment.
D. Many Europeans love to make friends with them.
7. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To look back on his study.
B. To call on readers to visit Nara.
C. To show the beauty of Japanese culture.
D. To share his experience of studying abroad.
C
Since the first Earth Day in 1970, Americans have gotten a lot “greener” toward the environment. “We didn’t know at that time there even was an environment, let alone that there was a problem with it,” says Bruce Anderson, president of Earth Day USA.
But what began as nothing important in public affairs has grown into a social movement .Business people, political leaders, university professors, and especially millions of grass-roots Americans are taking part in the movement. “The understanding has increased many, many times,” says Gaylord Nelson, the former governor from Wisconsin, who thought up the first. According to US government reports, emissions (排放)from cars and trucks have dropped from 10.3 million tons a year to 5.5 tons .The number of cities producing CO beyond the standard has been reduced from 40 to 9. Although serious problems still remain and need to be dealt with, the world is a safer and healthier place. A kind of “Green thinking” has become part of practices.
Great improvement has been achieved. In 1988 there were only 600 recycling programs; today in 1995 there are about 6,600. Advanced lights, motors, and building designs have helped save a lot of energy and therefore prevented pollution.
Twenty –five years ago, there were hardly any education programs for environment. Today, it’s hard to find a public school, university, or law school that does not have such a kind of program. “Until we do that, nothing else will change!” say Bruce Anderson.
8. According to Anderson, before 1970, Americans had little idea about ___
A. the social movement B. recycling techniques
C. environmental problems D. the importance of Earth Day
9. Where does the support for environmental protection mainly come from?
A. The grass –roots level B. The business circle
C. Government officials D. University professors
10. What have Americans achieved in environmental protection?

B. They have settled their environmental problems
C. They have lowered their CO levels in forty cities.
D. They have reduced pollution through effective measures.
11. What is especially important for environmental protection according to the last paragraph?
A. Education B. Planning C. Green living D. CO reduction
D
As you grow rapidly through your teenage years, you will experience a lot of changes. The changes may seem difficult and they may seem to happen quickly. Don’t panic! You will deal successfully with them! You are a young adult now!
With more responsibility, you will find more freedom to make your own choices. This is a time to be well informed about your choices so that you can make healthy balanced decisions that will help shape your future. You may already know your career path or you may have no idea at all what you want to do. Both situations are fine! Work hard and the right opportunity will present itself to you.
Young adulthood means greater freedom and more choices. You will probably want to be independent. But try not to shut your family out of your life. You should learn to think of others even though you are old enough to look after yourself. Your family have been with you since you
came into this world.
It is also perfectly natural in this time for you to spend more time with your friends than your family. Choose your friends wisely. A true friend will stand by you no matter what happens. This period is part of the life cycle. There are some people who will be with you throughout life's journey and there will be some people with whom you part(分离) and go separate ways. Leaving school can be hard. The reality is that you may not ever see all of your classmates again.
You are a young adult. It is your life. No one can live it for you. The choices that you make from now on will be your choices. So making the right choices will be important to you. Life is for living. Enjoy your life wisely!
12. The best title for this passage would be ________.
A. The Choices in Life B. The Key to Success

C. an important time for the young to make the right choices
D. a very important period for young students to leave their parents
15. Who is the passage mainly intended for?

Four Habits to Help You Succeed
Nobody would like to experience failure. We all want to succeed. For those who have tried and failed, success seems difficult to understand. 16
• Know your values.
Finding your values is in line with creating motivation. 17 Pick a handful of things and write them down. Remind yourself of your values every day and reflect on whether you are honoring those values through your work.
• 18
Choose one goal to start something large enough that will give you a sense of achievement, while adjusting well to your values. If you want to achieve your goal, focus is the key here. 19 If you perform many tasks at a time, you might never finish your projects because they will take far too long.
• Set a time for success.
Set a date for success. Know when you hope to realize your goal 20 By setting a time limit, you are making the process realistic.
• Don’t give up because of failure.
Failure can’t be avoided when you take risks. By its very definition, the desire to succeed means you are risking failure. Many people tend to give up far too early. Don’t fall into this trap! Use failure. Treat it as a good thing, and go on.
A.Make the right decision.
B.Pick a goal and focus on it .
C.The more focused you are on one goal, the higher chance you have of success.
D.Keep it realistic, while not giving yourself too much time.
E. I have made a list of four habits to help you set goals and realize them.
F. Sit and reflect on what you value most.

Nowadays more and more students prefer electric dictionaries in their language learning.Generally, edictionaries have many advantages.First, it is more convenient and faster.Besides, with an edictionary the word can be accompanied with its pronunciation.Thirdly, an edictionary usually
has other functions, for example,it may be used as a calculator.
But every coin has two sides. It also has some disadvantages. The important one is that it will do great harm to students’ eyes.To make matters worse, edictionaries mean more pollution than paper dictionaries.
As for me,I’d like to stick to my paper dictionary, which is more environmentallyfriendly and less harmful to my health.
