--Below are some of London’s must-see museums.
Science museum
The Science Museum features seven floors of educational and entertaining exhibiters, including the Apollo. The Wellcome Wing showcases developments in modern science, medicine and technology. The Medical History Gallery in the museum contains a large collection of medical history treasures. Exhibits in the Exploring Space galleries include models of Huygens Titan probe(探测器) and Beagle 2 Mars Lander. Tickets to the museum’s in-house IMAX cinema cost extra.
Natural History Museum

The museum’s wildlife garden attracts urban wildlife such as dragonflies and blackbirds and highlights inner-city wildlife conservation.
London Transport Museum
Among the vehicles on display at the London Transport Museum is the first underground electric train, which had no windows because there was nothing to see underground. The trouble was that no one could tell which stop they were at, a small problem solved by employing an athletic announcer who ran to each carriage at every station, shouting out the stops. Dating from 1890, this is one of several museum exhibits you can board. The design gallery is in memory of Frank Pick, the man responsible for rolling out the London Underground brand and giving each line its own character.

The history of London, from prehistoric times to the present is told in the Museum of London through reconstructed interiors and street scenes, alongside displays of original artifacts found during the museum’s archaeological digs. A Southampton University team found that people who were vegetarian by 30 had recorded five IQ points more on average at the age of 10. Researchers said it could explain why people with a higher IQ were healthier as a vegetarian diet was linked to lower heart disease and obesity rates. The study of 8,179 was reported in the British Medical Journal.
Twenty years after the IQ tests were carried out in 1970, 366 of participants said they were vegetarian—although more than 100 reported eating either fish or chicken.
Men who were vegetarian had an IQ score of 106, compared with 101 for non-vegetarians; while female vegetarians averaged 104, compared with 99 for non-vegetarians. There was no difference in the IQ score between strict vegetarians and those who said they were vegetarian but reported eating fish or chicken.
Researchers said the findings were partly related to better education and higher class, but it remained statistically significant after adjusting for these factors.
Vegetarians were more likely to be female, to be of higher academic or professional qualifications than non-vegetarians. However, these differences were not reflected in their annual income, which was similar to that of non-vegetarians.
Lead researcher Catharine Gale said, “The findings that children with greater intelligence are more likely to report being vegetarians than adults, together with the evidence on the potential benefits of a vegetarian diet on heart health, may help to explain why a higher IQ in childhood or adolescence is linked with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease(冠心病) in adult life.”
But Dr. Frankie Phillips, of the British Dietetic Association, said: “It is like the chicken and the egg. Do people become vegetarian because they have a very high IQ or is it just that they are clever enough to be more aware of health issues?”
20. What is result of the research mentioned in the passage?
A. Intelligent children are more likely to become vegetarians later in life.
B. Children with a higher IQ are less likely to have heart disease later in life.
C. Intelligent children tend to belong to higher social class later in life.
D. Children with a healthier heart tend to have a higher IQ later in life.
21. Catherine Gale talked about “being vegetarians” in a(n) _______ way.
A. doubtful B. favorable C. negative D. objective
22. What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean?
A. Intelligence is linked to not just being a vegetarian but too many factors.
B. The rate of getting heart disease is linked to your lifestyle.
C. The link between a high IQ and being a vegetarian is still uncertain.
D. The link between a healthy heart and diet remains to be proved.

Ryan and Lowry had been friends since high school, but it wasn't until after college that they hit on the idea of a home-care product company. "We were shocked to learn how toxic cleaning products were", says Ryan. Why couldn't they create green products that would be just as environmentally pure as Aveda's skin-and-hair-care lines?
When Ryan's mom heard about the plan, she stared at him blankly: "I've never even seen you clean your room!" Not discouraged, Lowry experimented with nontoxic ways to clean while Ryan focused on marketing. In February 2001, they mixed their first four cleaning sprays and convinced the managers of 20 grocers to try them. Once they had their approval, they tapped friends and family and pooled their savings to come up with $90,000 in seed money.
From the start, "Go big or go home.” was their mantra(口头禅). Their first financing----that $1 million----was due to be signed on September 11, 2001. By the time they got it, two months later, says Ryan, "We had $16 in the bank and personally owed $300,000."
Seeking a national retailer(零售商)proved just as troublesome. The friends set their sights on Target known for its trendy, affordable goods. "But Target didn't like the product or the brand." recalled Ryan. "We thought the deal was dead, but then a new buyer saw that even though we weren't selling big volumes, we were profitable, just on a smaller scale." They won over Target.
Consumers were hooked on the natural things and wonderful fragrance. Today, the partners sell 130 products in more than 8,000 stores, and taxes are over $100 million. Such rapid growth has at times stressed the men's friendship. "Eric and I agree on 'what' but never on 'how'," says Lowry. "Although we are willing to challenge each other, we come up with interesting and smart solutions. There's little fire and ice between us."
23. When Ryan told his mom his plan,________.
A. he knew his mom was sure to support him
B. his mom asked him to clean his room
C. his mom suspected his ability
D. his mom tried to stop him carrying out the plan
24. We can learn from the third paragraph that____________.
A. Ryan and Lowry wanted to give up and go home at first
B. they made profit two months later after their first financing
C. $ 1 million was not enough as their seed money
D. their plan didn't go smoothly at the very beginning
25. It can be inferred from the passage that _________ .
A. the partners get on well with each other in their business
B. Aveda's skin-and-hair-care lines are not so successful as Ryan and Lowry's
C. Target is a famous environment-friendly cleaning brand
D. the friends' cooperation with Target is very successful

I am Li Hua, a Senior 2 student. I am writing to you about how to decorate our school campus. I suggest that our school be decorated with art works, like paintings, sculptures and some other artistic designs, as art is part of our life. Not only can these works of art make our campus more beautiful, but also our students can release their stress by appreciating them.
First, I think some statues of educators and great scientists should be placed in our school garden to honour those who devote all their lives to the cause of education and the development of our society. Besides, on the outside walls of our classrooms, we can hang up pictures of paintings, sculptures, artefacts by famous artists with descriptions and introductions, from which students will learn more about art. In addition, we can set a special area for our students to exhibit their works of art. It will surely encourage the students who are enthusiastic about art to fully realize their potentials. If you adopt my design, I am sure that our school will take on a brand new look and students will love to live and study in such agreeable surroundings.
Art is not far from us and can be with us. I do appreciate it if you consider my plan. Let’s decorate our campus and create a school, which is perfumed with artistic atmosphere.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

W: Hello, sir. Can I help you?
M: Yes… Er, have you read about the world Sports in today’s newspaper, Miss?
W: Yes, I have.
M: Are you interested in football?
W: Well, yes.
M: I am. It’s a wonderful game.
W: Yes, it is. Now, what shoes can I show you, sir?
M: I like all sports and games.
W: Oh, yes?
M: Yes, football, cricket, swimming. Can you swim?
W: I’m not a good swimmer, but I go swimming sometimes.
M: Tennis. That’s a good game.
W: Yes.
M: I’m interested in tennis. I never miss Wimbledon, you know, I see it every year.
W: Oh?
M: And what about running, the oldest sport in the world? Wonderful. One man is trying to run faster than another man. Do you run?
W: No. I just play table tennis, and swim, and I walk quite a lot. Now, what kind of shoes do you want, sir?
M: You don’t play golf, then?
W: No, never.
M: I really like golf. Mind you, I like all sports games as well.
W: You’re a real sportsman, sir. Perhaps you want some tennis shoes or running shoes?
M: Er… no.
W: Football boots?
M: No, I want some carpet slippers—like those.
W: Carpet slippers?
M: Yes, I want to be comfortable when I’m watching television.

W: What can I do for you?
M: I’ve got a suit, a woolen sweater and a white shirt to wash.
W: OK, let me see. This white shirt can be washed in water by hand, but this suit and the woolen sweater should be dry-cleaned.
M: That’s OK. But what must be costly
W: Yes, the cost for dry-cleaning is three times of that for ordinary laundering. But for suits and sweaters, you can only take them to the dry cleaners’
M: Oh, my wife just threw them into the washer.
W: Did it ever shrink or fade? Generally speaking, dark-colored clothes always fade away gradually.
M: I see. The woolen sweater shrunk in the wash.
W: Never mind. You can leave them to me.
M: Oh, thanks. You know, I know little about this, so please tell me something that I should pay more attention to when I do washing.
W: It’s very simple. Divide the clothes by their colors, and wash them in cold water. If you’ve got some special stains on them like sugar, coffee or something else please let the dry cleaner know.
M: I’ll keep that in mind. And how much is it altogether?
W: That will be 80 yuan altogether. Here is your invoice.
M: It’s a bit too expensive.
W: It’s worth every cent.
M: That’s fine. Now, when shall I pick them up?
W: Usually it takes three days to have laundry done. Please pick them up on Friday.
M: OK, thanks.

M: I am not satisfied with your teaching performance. You seem unable to reach your students.
W: I…I’m not sure I understand your point.
M: You’re dominating the class and the students are feeling very bored.
W: On the contrary, I think the students are responding positively to my instruction.
M: But you don’t seem to make them laugh. I have told you several times that teaching is 25% preparation and 75% sitcom.
W: I have also told you time and time again that I don’t subscribe to that school of thought. My objective as a teacher is not to entertain, but to impart knowledge and I’m doing my level best to achieve the goal.
M: I don’t think you’ve achieved anything. Students are dropping out of your class. You’ve not provided them with enough stimulation to make them stay on.
W: students drop out for various reason. Some are busy trying to cope with their work. Some simply don’t have the energy or persistence to carry on. Anyway, there’s nothing to worry about. In any college, there will be students dropping out. This doesn’t mean that there’s something wrong with the college or instructors.
M: So, you deny you’re incompetent.
W: Of course I do. If I’m incompetent, how can my students score high marks in the examinations? If there are any students who can’t live up to the standard, it’s because they are not doing their work.
M: Look, you don’t tell me what to do. You’d better do what I say before you get into trouble.
W: I’m prepare for any trouble. The last thing I need is someone to teach me how to teach. I’m a teacher, not an entertainer. If your sole aim in running this institute is to entertain the students, why don’t you look for a DJ?

Feeling stressed lately? Has the doctor said he cannot find anything wrong with you? Perhaps he sent you to a hospital, but all the fancy equipment there showed that there was nothing wrong with you. Then consider this: you might be in a state of sub-health. Sub-health, also called the third state or gray state, is defined as borderline state between health and disease. According to an investigation by the National Health Organization, over 45 percent of sub-healthy people and middle-aged or elderly. The percentage is even higher among people who work in management positions as well as students around exam-time, due to their
heightened exposure to stress.
The key to preventing and recovering from sub-health, according to some medical experts, is to form good living habits, alternate work with rest, exercise regularly and take part in open air activities. As for meals, people are advised to eat less salt and sugar. They should eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, fish and so on because they are rich in nutritional elements—vitamins and trace elements—that are indispensable to the body.
Nutrition experts point out that it is not good to eat too much at one meal because it may cause unhealthy changes in your body. They also say that a balanced diet is very helpful in avoiding sub-health.
