阅读理解 A ‎(2020届陕西省高三联考)‎ Esther Mentzer was born in New York. Her upbringing was a modest one; her father owned a hardware store. Much of her time was spent in trying to make ends meet in the hardware store.‎ It was while working in this store that Esther got her first taste of business. Until World War Ⅰ, Esther had always wanted to be an actress, dreaming of her “name in lights, flowers, handsome men”.‎ After the War, Esther's uncle, John Schotz came to live with the family. This would prove to be a turning point in the young Esther's life. Schotz was a chemist who had devoted most of his life to creating “secret” skincare products. Esther joined him.‎ In 1930, she married Joseph Lauder and her name became Estee Lauder, when she was 22 years old. Lauder's dreams had never quite subsided (消退) and her husband supported her. In 1947, the two finally decided to go official, and Estee Lauder Cosmetics (化妆品) was founded.‎ She believed that beauty is an attitude, and when you look after yourself properly, it would be a winning attitude. If you looked beautiful on the outside, Lauder believed you would feel beautiful on the inside, and from there, the possibilities are endless.‎ Estee Lauder died on April 26, 2004, but her contribution is remembered. Today Estee Lauder is a recognized brand name in over 110 countries. “Why are all brides beautiful?” she asked. “Because on their wedding day they care about how they look. There are no ugly women—only women who don't care or who don't believe they're attractive.” Beauty is a state of mind and Lauder believed that her products could help anyone achieve that state of mind.‎ ‎【语篇解读】 本文主要是关于雅诗兰黛的创始人Esther Mentzer所取得的成就和她对美丽的看法。 ‎ ‎1.When Esther was young, she dreamed of becoming ______.‎ A.an actress B.a businesswoman C.a sales girl D.a chemist - 5 -‎ 解析:选A 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Until World War Ⅰ, Esther had always wanted to be an actress, dreaming of her‘name in lights, flowers, handsome men’.” A。‎ ‎2.From the passage we know that Esther first learned about cosmetics from ________.‎ A.her uncle B.her father C.her husband D.herself 解析:选A 推理判断题。 A。‎ ‎3.How old was Esther when she passed away?‎ A.She was 86. B.She was 96.‎ C.She was 106. D.She was 110.‎ 解析:选B 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“In 1930,she married Joseph Lauder and her name became Estee Lauder, when she was 22 years old.”可知,Esther出生于1908年;且由最后一段第一句“Estee Lauder died on April 26,2004, but her contribution is remembered.” B。‎ ‎4.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?‎ A.Modesty is the Start of Success B.Hard Experience is a Must for a Good Life C.Beauty is a Winning Attitude D.Great Brand Comes from Beauty 解析:选C 标题归纳题。 ‎ B ‎(2020届河南省豫南九校高三联考)‎ It was the beginning of another school year. I had agreed to teach all struggling students in need of critical intervention (介入). I knew what lay ahead—tough work hours overlaid with guilt, consumed with essays that needed feedback and lesson plans with best practice strategies. No wonder people always acknowledge my teaching career with, “I'm glad it's you and not me.”‎ Suddenly, my mind transported me to my first few years of teaching.‎ ‎“Peter Potter,” I called from my name list, trying to control my laughter.‎ - 5 -‎ ‎ “Laughlin McLaughlin?” Surely these were not real names.‎ ‎“Emotionally disabled...keeps them separated from the other kids...,”the vice headmaster commanded. This was my first teaching assignment.‎ Surely this year could never be as discouraging as those first few. In my new classroom, I looked into the face of Jason. At eleven, his mother was killed in an accident, leaving him with physical, academic, and certainly emotional scars. I looked at another student, Robert, standing at the door; my vice headmaster asked if I would take him, even though he was an eleventh grader in my tenth grade class.‎ But then there were—and are—stories of success—of Dustin, in Graduate School for Electrical and Computer Engineering; of Michael, now a teacher in a city school; of Willie...I thought of the thousands of students whose lives have touched mine far more than I could have ever touched theirs.‎ I broke from my daydream, a smile spreading across my face. Sadness, tears, challenges, fears—yes, teaching is filled with all of these—yet, it is also filled with laughter and smiles, hope, dreams, and rewards beyond measure.‎ ‎“I'm glad it's you and not me.” Those words resounded in my mind once again.‎ ‎【语篇解读】 本文讲述了作者从事特殊教育的职业经历。 ‎ ‎5.What might the author's job be like?‎ A.Easy. B.Boring.‎ C.Interesting. D.Challenging.‎ 解析:选D 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“I knew what lay ahead—tough work hours overlaid with guilt, consumed with essays that needed feedback and lesson plans with best practice strategies.” ‎ ‎6.What does the underlined sentence imply?‎ A.These people would like to teach.‎ B.These people did not like the author.‎ C.These people would not want this job.‎ D.These people wanted to learn from the author.‎ 解析:选C 词义猜测题。根据画线部分所在句“No wonder people always acknowledge my teaching career with, ‘I'm glad it's you and not me.’(难怪人们总是以‘很高兴是你而不是我从事这项工作’来评价我的教学生涯)”‎ - 5 -‎ 以及前文所述的教学工作的艰巨性可知,此句话暗示说这些话的人们不愿意做这样的工作。故选C项。‎ ‎7.Why did the author mention Jason and Robert?‎ A.To stress the importance of family education.‎ B.To show her regrets about taking up teaching.‎ C.To express her dissatisfaction with the school.‎ D.To introduce the basic situation of her students.‎ 解析:选D 推理判断题。 ‎ ‎8.How did the author feel thinking of the successful students?‎ A.She was doing a worthwhile job.‎ B.She could never go back to the past.‎ C.She was the inspiration behind the success stories.‎ D.She would never make greater achievements in the future. 根据第六段中的“I thought of the thousands of students whose lives have touched mine far more than I could have ever touched theirs.” 故选A项。‎ Ⅱ.七选五 ‎(2020届河北省石家庄二中高三模拟)‎ Having a learning disability doesn't mean you can't learn. Learning disabilities happen because of the way a person's brain takes in and processes information. 1 The trick will be figuring out how you learn best. ‎ Learning disabilities aren't contagious (传染的), but they can be genetic. That means they can be passed down in families through the genes, like many other traits we get from our parents and grandparents. Someone with a learning disability probably has other family members who have some learning troubles, too. Kids with learning problems are sometimes surprised to find out that one of their parents had similar troubles when he or she was in school. 2 ‎ Learning experts now know a lot more about the brain and how learning works.‎ It's very hard for a kid to know if he or she has a learning disability. But kids don't have to figure all this out on their own. 3 Start with your teacher and your mom or dad.‎ Finding out you have a learning disability can be upsetting. 4 But the truth is that learning disabilities are pretty common. And if your learning specialist or - 5 -‎ ‎ psychologist has figured out which one you're facing, you're on the right track. Now, you can start getting the help you need to do better in school.‎ To make this special help really work, you'll need to practise the new skills you're learning. It may take a lot of efforts every day. 5 Soon, you'll enjoy the results of all your hard work: More fun and success at school!‎ A.As a result, some people learn differently.‎ B.What a kid needs to do is to tell someone.‎ C.That can be a challenge, but you can do it.‎ D.You might feel different from everyone else.‎ E.There are people who know how to do just that.‎ F.But kids today have an advantage over their parents.‎ G.But you'll need some help and you'll need to work extra hard.‎ ‎【语篇解读】 有的人会存在学习障碍,但这并不意味着这个人就无法学习,本文介绍了一些方法应对学习障碍。‎ ‎1.解析:选A 根据上文“Learning disabilities happen because of the way a person's brain takes in and processes information.” 故A项“As a result, some people learn differently. (因此,一些人学得不一样)”符合语境。‎ ‎2.解析:选F 根据上文“Kids with learning problems are sometimes surprised to find out that one of their parents had similar troubles when he or she was in school.” ‎ ‎3.解析:选B 理解语境可知,上文说孩子们不必独自弄清所有的事物,且根据下文“Start with your teacher and your mom or dad.
