We work with Cambridge County Council's Participation Team to create opportunities for young people to visit the University and learn more about it. The following events are scheduled for the 2020~2021 academic year.
SuperStar workshops
12 engaging workshops are planned for young people aged 7 to 11. These halfday visits will be held throughout the year, at times when young people are not at school. If participants complete 8 of the 12 workshops, they will be awarded the nationally recognised SuperStar Crest Award.
Please note, workshops will only run if we have a sufficient number of attendees (usually around 3+ participants).
Explore University Days
Explore University Days are for young people aged 12~15. Participants visit the University for two days and engage with a range of universityrelated workshops, and other fun activities.
Previous participants have engaged with the following:
◆Visited the Sports Centre
◆Took part in a Neuroscience workshop
◆Enjoyed a twocourse meal at a University College
Dates will be confirmed in early December 2020, and a schedule for event will follow in the New Year.

From Madrid to Buenos Aires to Panama City to Lisbon, President Xi Jinping has tirelessly promoted the building of a community of shared future for mankind, and the Belt and Road Initiative (倡议) as a means to achieve that.
But all don't see it that way. While some are quick to see its positive potentials, other countries insist on viewing it skeptically. There have been the usual doubts about the intention behind, although the mysterious threat they speak of is one they seem unable to explain clearly.

To some of them, it is a vague assumption that investments from China are potential “debt traps” that call for extreme caution or “threats to national security”. That is why the business combinations involving Chinese companies which would be mutually (相互地) beneficial have hit the rocks. The Chinese telecommunications technology giant Huawei, for instance, has found the doors to the 5G telecommunications markets of advanced countries closed to it on “national security” grounds. Likewise, the European Union has agreed on a framework regulating foreign investment (投资), particularly those from China on the same account.
Even as Chinese and Portuguese leaders discuss bilateral (双边的) cooperation under the Belt and Road, there is no lack of concern about “China's influence”. But existing EU rules do not forbid Lisbon from seeking such a partnership. If Lisbon sees no harm from foreign investment, no outsider is in a position to prevent it from making a choice in its own best interests.
Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has reminded EU decisionmakers of his country's desire for foreign investment, and advised the latter to avoid taking “the path of protectionism”. It was a timely reminder.
Facing the challenges in today's world, China and the countries that have embraced the Belt and Road are convinced it is the way to common development and the world's lasting peace and stability.
4.Some countries that hold a negative attitude towards the Initiative mainly doubt its ________.
A.power B.mystery
C.intention D.potential
根据第二段中的“There have been the usual doubts about the intention behind, although the mysterious threat they speak of is one they seem unable to explain clearly.”
5.What does the underlined part “hit the rocks” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Failed to work out. B.Become a hit.
C.Made a difference. D.Fallen into a trap.
解析:
- 5 -
故选A。
6.It can be learned from the passage that ________.
A.Huawei has caused serious security problems abroad
B.the EU will take relatively strict measures on Chinese investment
C.the Road and Belt Initiative has gained much popularity for “China's influence”
D.China's investment in Portugal has been extremely smooth
根据第三段中的“Likewise, the European Union has agreed on a framework regulating foreign investment (投资), particularly those from China on the same account.”

Every minute, every single day, about a truckload of plastic enters our oceans. 1 And to date, only 9% of that has been recycled.
We buy a bottle of water, drink it for a few minutes, and toss its permanent packaging “away”. We eat potato chips, finish them, then throw their permanent packaging “away”. We buy produce, take it out of the unnecessary plastic wrap, then throw its permanent packaging “away”.
The cycle is endless, and it happens countless times every single day. 2 As far as we try to toss a piece of plastic—whether it's into a recycling bin or not—it does not disappear. Chances are, it ends up polluting our communities, oceans or waterways in some form.
For years, we've been told the problem of plastic packaging can be solved through better individual action. 3 But the truth is that we cannot recycle our way out of this mess.
Recycling alone will never stop the flow of plastics into our oceans; we have to get to the source of the problem and slow down the production of all this plastic waste. Think about it: if your home was flooding because you had left the tap on,
- 5 -
your first step wouldn't be to start mopping. You'd first cut the flooding off at its source—the tap. 4
We need corporations—those like CocaCola, Unilever, Starbucks and Nestlé that continue to produce throwaway plastic bottles—to step up and take their responsibility for the mess they've created. 5 We will continue to do our part, but it's time for the world's largest corporations to do theirs.
A.This is their problem to deal with.
B.Plastic pollution is becoming very serious.
C.But here is the problem—there is no “away”.
D.In many ways, our plastic problem is no different.
E.We think that if we simply recycle we're doing our part.
F.It's impossible for us to get rid of plastic pollution completely.
G.Since the 1950s, some 8.3 bn tons of plastic have been produced worldwide.
这正好与C项中的“there is no ‘away’”相呼应,因此C项正确。
E项“We think that if we simply recycle we're doing our part.”
